Israel President Reuven Rivlin visits Jerusalem Christian leaders
The State of Israel, as guardian of this city, is deeply committed to the religious rights of worship and activity of all communities of faith in Jerusalem and Israel,” President Reuven Rivlin said in an Ascension Day event at the Franciscan Church in Jerusalem on Monday.
“Christians, Muslims and Jews will always be free to worship here,” Rivlin added at the event marking the Ascension Day holiday and 800 years of the Franciscan Order in the Holy Land.
Ascension Day, also known as the Feast of the Ascension of Jesus Christ, commerates Jesus’s ascension to heaven, according to News Agency.
“Israeli sovereignty will never compromise religious freedom,” added Rivlin. “These are difficult and painful times for Christians in the Middle East. I am proud that Israel is the only country in our region where the Christian community is not shrinking, but in fact is growing.”
Rivlin also congratulated the heads of the churches for reaching an agreement on the restoration and preservation of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, saying “it gives me great joy that you have agreed on the next stage to restore and protect the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, making sure that this most holy place for Christianity will be secured for future generations.”
The agreement was signed between the Eastern Orthodox, Roman Catholic and Armenian Apostolic churches, which have been the building’s primary custodians since the Ottoman era.
The multi-million dollar project will be funded by the various Christian groups and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
“Unfortunately, even recently, we have seen violence exploding in an inhuman and brutal way against faithful who were praying,” said the Custos of the Holy Land, Father Francesco Patton.
“This violence has struck the Jewish community in the United States, the Muslim community in New Zealand, as well as the Christian community in Sri Lanka. As religious leaders, we refuse condemn and deplore all kinds of exploitation of religion, and especially the religious justification of acts of violence.”
“When Pope John Paul II came to Jerusalem in March 2000, he reminded us that the role of religious leaders is, above all, that of ‘promoting peace and reciprocal understanding,’” added the Custos.
The Custos added that “we are, however, afraid that in this season in which the great religious leaders are condemning the exploitation of religion and acts of violence committed in the name of religion, some forms of religion are being undertaken by certain political leaders who are not far sighted; they are able to support all that permits them to obtain an immediate political consensus but they are short-sighted in their ability to build a strategy of peace for the common good of all citizens, in such a way that they become truly equal in being subjects of rights and duties, independently of their religious faith.”

സിത്താരോ ദ്വീപില്‍ നിന്ന് 838 പേരെയാണ് ഒഴിപ്പിച്ചതെന്നാണ് വിവരം. പർവത ചരിവുകളിലൂടെ ലാവ ഒഴുകുന്ന വീഡിയോകളും പുറത്തുവന്നു. അഗ്നിപർവതം പൊട്ടിത്തെറിക്കുന്നതിന് മുൻപ് നിരവധി ഭൂകമ്ബങ്ങളും ഉണ്ടായതായി സൂചനകളുണ്ട്.
27 കോടി ജനങ്ങളുള്ള ദ്വീപസമൂഹമായ ഇന്തോനേഷ്യയിൽ 120 സജീവ അഗ്നിപർവ്വതങ്ങളുണ്ട്. 725 മീറ്റർ (2,378 അടി) യുള്ള റുവാങ് അഗ്നിപർവ്വതത്തിൽ നിന്ന് കുറഞ്ഞത് 6 കിലോമീറ്റർ (3.7 മൈൽ) അകലെ താമസിക്കാൻ അധികൃതർ വിനോദസഞ്ചാരികളോടും ജനങ്ങളോടും അഭ്യർത്ഥിച്ചു.
2018-ൽ, ഇന്തോനേഷ്യയിലെ അനക് ക്രാകറ്റൗ അഗ്നിപർവ്വതം പൊട്ടിത്തെറിച്ചതിനെത്തുടർന്ന്, സുമാത്ര, ജാവ തീരങ്ങളിൽ സുനാമിയുണ്ടായി 430 പേർ മരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തിരുന്നു.

As Record Bible Disengagement Rages, Researchers Discover ‘Good Reason For Hope’ If Key Trend Continues
A new survey yielded results that could give Christians a “good reason for hope” when it comes to the Gospel’s impact on young people.
This year, 54% of Gen Z adults (ages 18-27) agreed the Bible’s message has transformed their lives, up from 50% last year.
These results are captured in the first chapter of the 14th annual “State of the Bible Report 2024.”
The increase in support for Scripture’s message left Dr. John Farquhar Plake, chief program officer and editor-in-chief of the State of the Bible, with some hope for the future, despite noting the decrease in Scripture engagement in recent years.
“Our youngest adults show signs of interest in the Bible, curiosity about it, and transformative interaction with it,” Plake said, breaking down the increase in those who say the “message of the Bible has transformed their lives.” “If this trend continues, we have good reason for hope.”
On the negative front, though, the research found “there are more Bible Disengaged Americans than ever.” The State of the Bible found people fall into a number of categories when it comes to Bible engagement: Scripture Engaged, Bible Disengaged, or in the Movable Middle.
Tragically, the survey found 10 million people slid from the middle to the least engaged bucket, amounting to 4% of the total population, according to an overview of results.
“Now 57% of Americans are Bible Disengaged — the highest number in the 14-year history of this survey,” the statement read.
One of the other fascinating finds centers on race. White Americans’ Scripture engagement dropped over the last year to 16%, while black Americans saw their Scripture engagement increase to 28%.
The American Bible Society said black Americans also have higher church attendance and other “measures of spiritual vitality.”
Additional chapters will be released throughout the year, providing a lens into where Americans stand on Bible engagement and faith practices.
