Hindu radicals terrorize Christian children at Sunday School, threaten to beat them

A pastor in India said a mob of 300 Hindu extremists terrorize Christian children and threaten to beat them for attending a Sunday school class he was leading.
Pastor Selva Raj of Amathur village in India’s Tamil Nadu state told that the attack happened on Nov. 11. The mob of 300 or so radicals destroyed a shed near the worship building before descending upon children in a Sunday school class.
“They took away the Bible storybooks and some song and activity books from the children and tore them into pieces,” Raj told. “They scared the children away by telling them that they will be beaten up if they are seen in the church premises ever again.”
The Hindu radicals then pressured both police and landlords to banish the pastor from the village.
Despite pressure to leave the village, Raj said he has refused to do so.
“I told them that I am not going to write anything,” he said. “The inspector also told them, ‘If he has done something wrong, you tell us, and we can give him a strong warning to not do it. But we do not have the authority to tell anyone to leave the village.’”
Raj explained that local Hindu leaders have been highly opposed to the presence of Christians in Amathur, and for years have been chasing away other pastors.
He vowed to continue offering Bible study classes for the children, no matter the cost.
“I’m ready to become martyr for Christ,” the pastor said. “Until my Lord provides us a building, we will continue serving the Lord. It is fine even if we do not have shelter, we will not stop worshiping Him. We are ready to die for Christ.”
Christians have been attacked, beaten and threatened by Hindu radicals throughout rural areas in India, often falsely accused of trying to forcefully convert other believers.
A pastor who leads a congregation in Madhya Pradesh State said in September that 15 families were scared off from going to church due to threats made by Hindu radicals, but they continue to worship Jesus in secret.
“The radicals say they will beat and kill my church members if they continue to attend the services,” Pastor Singh, as the church leader was identified, told International Christian Concern at the time.
“Prior to May this year, around 200 people used to worship regularly in my church,” he added. “But now only 50 to 60 people attend my church on Sunday. They are under tremendous pressure from Hindu radicals.”
In other instances, Christian families have been pressured into converting back to tribal religions. Three families faced such a fate in October in Lisiya village, West Singhbhum District, after Hindu radicals began destroying their homes and threatening to take their land and resources.
“Pastors and Christians from Lisiya and surrounding village churches tried to encourage them to continue in the Christian faith in these testing times,” area resident Subod said of the difficulties placed upon the Christians.

Christian Father and Son Stabbed in Egypt in String of Incidents

Egypt – A Christian father and son in Egypt were attacked by a known radical on July 28 just outside the father’s shop. 43-year-old Joseph Israel and his son were stabbed in the Omranya district of Giza in the early morning hours. The assailant, Ahmad Muhammad, stabbed the two, shouting “Allahu Akbar” (God is Great), infidels, and “La illaha ila Allah” (No God but God), before some Muslim neighbors intervened and handed him over to authorities.
Joseph and his son Emil were transported to the hospital with threatening injuries. Video footage of the incident and eyewitnesses revealed that that the perpetrator first attacked Joseph and later turned on Emil when he rushed to his father’s aid.
The Coptic Christian victim owned a store selling alcoholic drinks. In a Muslim-majority country like Egypt, only Christians are able to establish liquor stores, leading to potential conflict with extremist Muslims, though conservatives often look down on the stores as well. However, the assailant had no prior relationship with the victims, leading many to conclude that Muhammad’s actions were driven by religious hatred.
One Coptic journalist, Nader Shokry, noted in a Facebook post that the recent escalation in attacks against Coptic Christians has been fanned by hate speech by Islamist leaders like Sheikh Abdullah Rushdy and Sheikh Mabrook Attia. Sheikh Attia made controversial statements about a 21-year-old girl who was stabbed after declining a marriage proposal, saying it occurred because she was not wearing a hijab. He also mocked Jesus and the Sermon on the Mount in a later video.
The attack against the Christian father and son is the latest in a string of attacks dating back to April when a Coptic priest was stabbed on the street. Another Christian man was shot 22 times in April, a woman was attacked with a sickle in June, and a mob reportedly attacked Christian homes later that month.

Pastor’s 2 sons killed, daughter kidnapped in attack in terrorist-plagued region of Nigeria

Nigeria — Gunmen in northeast Nigeria shot a pastor and killed his sons in one attack and killed a Christian engineering instructor in another this month, sources said.
Near Mubi town in Islamic terrorist-plagued Adamawa state, assailants shot the Rev. Daniel Umaru on July 5, leaving him for dead after killing his sons, 19-year-old Kefrey Daniel and Fanye Daniel, 23, area sources said. The gunmen kidnapped his 13-year-old daughter, Ijagla, who was released on July 8 after the kidnappers received a ransom payment.
Pastor Umaru, of the Church of the Brethren in Nigeria (EYN), was recovering in a hospital, said area resident Aunty Adunni.
“He was shot and left to bleed to death,” Adunni told Morning Star News in a text message. “Both the wounded pastor and his wife, who became unconscious during the attack, were taken to the hospital.”
Police in Adamawa state confirmed the attack, with spokesman Suleiman Nguroje saying the assailants stormed the pastor’s home in Mararaba Mubi, near Mubi, at about 2 a.m. on July 5.
The state’s governor condemned the attack in a statement and said the assailants must be brought to justice.
Area resident Peter Musa lamented the killings.
“Please pray for God’s intervention in this state over unending attacks on Christians and churches,” he told Morning Star News in a text message.
The pastor’s sons were buried on July 8 at EYN headquarters in Kwarhi Maararba, in the Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa state.
In the state capital, Yola, gunmen on July 14 killed a Christian engineering teacher, Yohanna Mbudai Bzegu, at his home in the Bajabure area of the city, sources said. Bzegu taught at Adamawa State Polytechnic in Yola.
The assailants broke into his home behind the Anglican Junior Seminary at about 3 a.m. and shot him to death, area resident John Usman said in a text message.
“The Christian lecturer was shot multiple times in his chest after the terrorists forcefully gained entrance into his house,” Usman told Morning Star News. “Before this time, the terrorists had attempted breaking into his house more than four times but were unsuccessful.”
Police in Yola confirmed the attack and were searching for the suspects.
Nigeria led the world in Christians killed for their faith last year (Oct. 1, 2020, to Sept. 30, 2021,) at 4,650, up from 3,530 the previous year, according to Open Doors’ 2022 World Watch List report. The number of kidnapped Christians was also highest in Nigeria, at more than 2,500, up from 990 the previous year, according to the WWL report.
Nigeria trailed only China in the number of churches attacked, with 470 cases, according to the report.
In the 2022 World Watch List of the countries where it is most difficult to be a Christian, Nigeria jumped to seventh place, its highest ranking ever, from No. 9 the previous year.
