‘Stronger Together with Christ’: FBI Hosts Multi-Faith Round-table in Washington, DC
The US Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, DC on June 18, hosted a ‘Multi-Faith Targeted Violence in the US’ Round-table.
The ‘By-Invitation-Only’ meeting included a closed door security briefing followed by a panel discussion with representatives from the Department of Homeland Security, FBI, Federal, State and Local law enforcement, and representatives from national faith organizations responsible for security efforts involving houses of worship and faith-based facilities.
Christian Emergency Network (CEN), Secure Community Network (SCN), and Muslim Public Affairs (MPAC) were co-conveners of the Round-table where federal, state and local law enforcement entities engaged with faith-based communities to identify threats/risks and address challenges being faced while securing churches in the US
CEN Founder and President, Mary Marr told : “National Christian leaders from denominations, universities, schools, city networks, and media all came together today in what was a sober, yet historic, meeting.
“The critical mass of the Christian community nationwide came together to discuss a topic weighing on all our hearts: How do we best protect and defend the Church for such a time as this while extending the welcoming Hand of Christ?”
According to CEN, the participants were provided an in-depth and up-to-date assessment of the current threat environment with an emphasis on pre-incident indicators that may inform prevention efforts.
Marr told : “They had the opportunity to candidly hear from each other and discuss common challenges confronting faith-based organizations responsible for addressing the security concerns arising from escalating attacks. Participants agreed an attack on one religion is an attack on all!”
She added: “Incidents such as Sutherland Springs, TX, Pittsburgh, PA, Oak Creek, WI and Poway, CA have much in common as each of the major faith groups have faced the heartbreak, loss, chaos and confusion brought on by a mass casualty attack.
“These recent attacks were carefully examined by the participants to determine incident mitigation best practices such as how to respond to survivors; how to best work within your local community to build resiliency; what to expect from law enforcement; and how to take advantage of the services available for faith communities to detect, prevent, and protect against acts of violence targeting houses of worship.”
Marr concluded: “We agreed as national Christian leaders, like Nehemiah, it is time to come together and rebuild our temple bringing calm where there is distress; offering peaceful solutions where there is discord; and bringing a moral and ethical compass back into our national discourse through Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”
In preparation for the Multi-Faith Targeted Violence Round-table CEN conducted its own survey of the nation’s approximately 50 Christian Safety Security training and information sharing ministries. Of the 38 responders the results were staggering.
91% Believe churches don’t have adequate procedures and trained security personnel.
85% Believe churches are at greater risk because of the increasing number of congregants with violent unstable family members and when they are providing counseling or ministerial support.
88% Believe active shooter training should provide some simple offensive tactics for those whose only option is to fight for survival.
67% Believe churches are not taking advantage of the resources which are available to them through local trained individuals, security ministries, or federal, state and local law enforcement.
81% Believe there is uncertainty surrounding the definitions and laws related to hate crimes.
97% Believe churches are not immune from mass casualty incidents.
70% Believe the See Something Say Something campaign lacks clarity for people to respond.
Marr stated: “In these countless mass casualty incidents recently, we have been reminded that any security response is more than law enforcement alone. Rather, there is a role for everyone in the process of prevention, response and mitigation.”
She asked: “Will you and your church effectively share the Hope of Christ when emergencies occur?”
To protect, defend, and guide the Body of Christ for such a time as this CEN developed ReadyChristian, ReadyChurch and ReadyCity—three compatible self-study guides to prepare your congregants, your whole church including staff, and your Christian community to be there responsibly and obediently with the Hope of Christ in crisis.
Also included are Biblical practices such as: Embracing a Biblical Readiness Response vs helplessness, Focusing on those in need vs the crisis itself or mere survival, Applying authoritative Biblical collaboration vs authoritarian control, Using bottom up innovative leadership approaches vs top down, Believing we are stronger together with Christ vs separately.
Nigeria —Fulani militants murdered more than 300 Christians, including two pastors, and destroyed 28 churches since mid-May in Plateau State, Nigeria. The Islamic extremists also displaced 30,000 Christians and destroyed 2,000 homes in recent attacks, according to local sources.
The Christian population in Nigeria faces a growing persecution threat since Boko Haram’s insurgency in the 2010s. The insurgency and its splinter group Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), primarily operate in northeastern Nigeria, while Fulani militants operate in the central and southern regions. Fulani militants execute a “comparable strategy to Boko Haram and ISWAP and demonstrate a clear intent to target Christians and potent symbols of Christian identity,” according to a report by the UK All Party Parliamentary Group for International Freedom of Religion or Belief (APPG).
In 2022, Nigeria ranked first in the number of Christians killed, assaulted, or abused and ranked second in the number of Christians displaced, and churches attacked, according to the Open Doors 2023 World Watch List report. The report also noted that “[2022] has also seen violence spill over into the Christian-majority south of the nation,” and that “Nigeria’s government continues to deny this is religious persecution.” International Christian Concern (ICC) has previously reported on the numerous murders committed by Fulani militants earlier in 2023 and 2022.

സഹോദരിമാരുടെയും, സഹോദരന്മാരുടെയും അവസ്ഥയിൽ ഉൽക്കണ്ഠയുള്ള നന്മയും കരുതലും ആത്മാർത്ഥതയുമുള്ള അയൽക്കാരെയാണ് അവരിൽ കാണാൻ സാധിക്കുന്നതെന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം പറഞ്ഞു. ഐക്യത്തോടും സമാധാനത്തോടും കൂടിയുള്ള സഹവർത്തിത്വത്തിന് വേണ്ടി സംസ്ഥാനത്തുടനീളം ഈ മാതൃക പിന്തുടരാൻ ശ്രമിക്കണമെന്നും ജോൺ ഹയാബ് ആഹ്വാനം നൽകി. ഇതിനിടയിൽ മോചനം ലഭിച്ച 16 പേർ കുടുംബത്തോടൊപ്പം ചേർന്നു. ഇവരിൽ പരിക്കേറ്റവർ ആശുപത്രിയിൽ ചികിത്സയും തേടിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.
നൈജീരിയയില് ഇസ്ലാമിക തീവ്രവാദികള് വ്യാപകമായ ക്രൈസ്തവ കൂട്ടക്കൊല നടത്തുന്ന വാര്ത്തകള് പുറത്തുവരുമ്പോഴും സായുധധാരികളുടെ തടങ്കലില് നിന്നു മോചിപ്പിക്കാന് നടത്തിയ ഇടപെടലിന് വലിയ അഭിനന്ദനമാണ് പ്രാദേശിക ക്രൈസ്തവ സമൂഹത്തിന് ലഭിക്കുന്നത്.
കഴിഞ്ഞ 14 വര്ഷങ്ങള്ക്കുള്ളില് നൈജീരിയയില് ക്രൈസ്തവ വിശ്വാസത്തിന്റെ പേരില് 52,250 ക്രൈസ്തവരെങ്കിലും കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുണ്ടാകുമെന്ന വെളിപ്പെടുത്തലുമായി ‘ഇന്റര്നാഷണല് സൊസൈറ്റി ഫോര് സിവില് ലിബര്ട്ടീസ് ആന്ഡ് റൂള് ഓഫ് ലോ’ (ഇന്റര്സൊസൈറ്റി) എന്ന സംഘടന ഏപ്രില് 10-ന് റിപ്പോര്ട്ട് പുറത്തുവിട്ടിരിന്നു. 2023-ന്റെ ആദ്യ 100 ദിവസങ്ങള്ക്കുള്ളില് (ജനുവരി 1 മുതല് ഏപ്രില് 10 വരെ) 1,041 ക്രൈസ്തവര് കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുണ്ടെന്നും, 707 ക്രിസ്ത്യാനികള് തട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപോകലിന് ഇരയായിട്ടുണ്ടെന്നും റിപ്പോര്ട്ടില് ചൂണ്ടിക്കാണിച്ചിരിന്നു.
