GB Pant Hospital withdraws order directing nurses to not speak in Malayalam
Delhi’s Govind Ballabh Pant Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (GIPMER) on Sunday withdrew its controversial order of directing its nursing staff “to use only Hindi and English for communication”.
The latest decision was taken after Delhi’s Health Minister Satyendra Kumar Jain ordered the hospital to immediately withdraw the circular.
Reportedly, the Delhi government will also issue a memo against the Medical Supervisor (MS), which will be forwarded to the nursing superintendent of the state-owned hospital.
The GB Pant Hospital on Saturday issued the circular, saying, “A complaint has been received regarding Malayalam language being used for communication in working place.”
“Maximum patients and colleagues do not know this language and feel helpless causing a lot of inconvenience. So it is directed to all nursing personnel to use only Hindi and English for communication otherwise, serious action will be taken,” the circular added.
Congress sees ‘language discrimination’
The order did not go down well with Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Shashi Tharoor, both of whom are Parliamentarians from Kerala.
Tharoor tweeted, “It boggles the mind that in democratic India a government institution can tell its nurses not to speak in their mother tongue to others who understand them.”
“This is unacceptable, crude, offensive and a violation of the basic human rights of Indian citizens. A reprimand is overdue!” the Thiruvananthapuram MP said.
Gandhi, on the other hand, called the GB Pant Hospital’s action “language discrimination”. The Wayanad MP tweeted, “Malayalam is as Indian as any other Indian language. Stop language discrimination!”
GB Pant nurses’ association president, Liladhar Ramchandani, denied that there were biases against a particular language. He said the circular was issued in pursuance of a complaint sent by a patient to a senior officer in the health department, regarding the use of the Malayalam language at the hospital.
He added that the union “disagrees with the wordings used in the circular”. Ramchandani, also the secretary-general of Delhi Nurses Federation, said, “As a language’s name, Malayalam, has been inserted in the circular, many will take offense”, PTI reported.

ടെക്സാസ്: ജീവിക്കുവാന്‍ സാധ്യതയില്ലായെന്ന് ഡോക്ടര്‍മാര്‍ തന്നെ വിധിയെഴുതിയ തന്റെ 22 ആഴ്ച മാത്രം പ്രായമുള്ള കുരുന്നിന് വേണ്ടി ഈശോയുടെ ഗാനം ആലപിക്കുന്ന പിതാവിന്റെ ടിക്ടോക്ക് വീഡിയോ സമൂഹമാധ്യമങ്ങളില്‍ തരംഗമാകുന്നു. അമേരിക്കയിലെ ടെക്സാസ് സ്വദേശിയായ ഡാനിയല്‍ ജോണ്‍സന്റെ ഗാനാലാപനത്തിനിടെ മകനായ റെമിംഗ്ടണ്‍ ഹെയ്സ് ജോണ്‍സണ്‍ എന്ന കുരുന്ന് 35 സെക്കന്റോളം തന്റെ കൈ ഉയര്‍ത്തിപ്പിടിക്കുന്നതും അത് കാണുമ്പോള്‍ പിതാവ് കരയുന്നതും ആയിരങ്ങളാണ് പങ്കുവെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. ജോണ്‍സന്റെ പത്നിതന്നെയാണ് ഈ വീഡിയോ ചിത്രീകരിച്ച് ടിക്ടോക്കില്‍ പോസ്റ്റ്‌ ചെയ്തത്. 12 ലക്ഷത്തോളം ആളുകള്‍ കണ്ട ഈ വീഡിയോക്ക് ഇതുവരെ 2,35,200 ലൈക്കുകൾ ലഭിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടെന്നതും ശ്രദ്ധേയമാണ്. കുടുംബത്തിനു പ്രോത്സാഹനമേകിക്കൊണ്ട് നൂറുകണക്കിന് ആളുകളാണ് വീഡിയോ ഷെയര്‍ ചെയ്യുന്നത്. ബെല്‍ കൌണ്ടിയിലെ ബെയ്ലര്‍ സ്കോട്ട് ആന്‍ഡ് വൈറ്റ് മെഡിക്കല്‍ സെന്ററില്‍ ചികിത്സയില്‍ കഴിയുന്ന തന്റെ കുരുന്നിന് വേണ്ടി പ്രശസ്ത ക്രിസ്ത്യന്‍ ബാന്‍ഡായ എലവേഷന്‍ വര്‍ഷിപ്പിന്റെ “ഹല്ലേലൂയ ഹിയര്‍ ബിലോ” എന്ന ഗാനമാണ് ജോണ്‍സണ്‍ പാടിയത്.
“നമ്മുടെ രാജാവായ യേശു ക്രിസ്തു സിംഹാസനസ്ഥനായി. എന്നെന്നേക്കും എല്ലാ സ്തുതികളും അവന് മാത്രം. ഹല്ലേലൂയ” എന്നാണ് ഈ ഗാനത്തിന്റെ വരികളില്‍ പ്രധാനമായും പറയുന്നത്. “മാസം തികയുന്നതിനു നാല് മാസം മുന്‍പ് ജനിച്ച തന്റെ മകന്‍ ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുവാന്‍ 21% സാധ്യത മാത്രമാണ് ഡോക്ടര്‍മാര്‍ കല്‍പ്പിച്ചത്. ഇന്നും അവൻ ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ദൈവമാണ് അതിന്റെ കാരണക്കാരന്‍. ദൈവം വിശ്വസ്തനാണെന്നതിന്റെ തെളിവാണ് എന്റെ മകന്‍” – ഇതാണ് ജോണ്‍സണ്‍ സമൂഹമാധ്യമത്തില്‍ കുറിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്.
ടെക്സാസ് ടു ലൈഫ് എന്ന പ്രോലൈഫ് സംഘടനയും ഈ വീഡിയോ പോസ്റ്റ്‌ ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്. മാസം തികയാതെ ജനിക്കുന്ന കുട്ടികളുടെ വിജയകരമായ ചികിത്സ വളര്‍ച്ചയുടെ ഓരോ ഘട്ടത്തിലും ജീവന്റെ മൂല്യം ഉയര്‍ത്തിക്കാട്ടുകയും ഭ്രൂണഹത്യ അനുകൂലികള്‍ക്കെതിരെ യുക്തിസഹവും ധാര്‍മ്മികവുമായ വിടവ് സൃഷ്ടിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നുവെന്നു സംഘടനയുടെ പോസ്റ്റില്‍ പറയുന്നു. ഓരോ ജീവനും അമൂല്യമാണെന്നും അത് ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ദാനമാണെന്നുമുള്ള ഏറ്റുപറച്ചിലുമായുള്ള വീഡിയോ എല്ലാ സോഷ്യൽ മീഡിയ പ്ലാറ്റ്ഫോമുകളിലും തരംഗമാണെന്നതും ശ്രദ്ധേയമാണ്.
