Drug dealer jailed for decorating Christmas tree with cash and cocaine

A cocaine dealer who decorated his Christmas tree with £20 notes and bags of a suspicious-looking white powder has been jailed for his part in a conspiracy to supply millions of pounds of drugs.
Martin Porcelli, 47, captured the not-so-festive snap on his smartphone which was later retrieved by Merseyside police and added to a long list of evidence showcasing his role in a major drugs gang.
Posting the photo on Twitter, Merseyside Police wrote: “Can you imagine our surprise when we searched the mobile of Wavertree drug dealer Marvin Porcelli and found this?!”
They later said: “Joking aside, these men were serious criminals, highly organised and some were well armed.
“They just didn’t reckon on the expertise, perseverance and capabilities we and law enforcement throughout the UK and Europe possess.”
Porcelli, from Wavertree, was apprehended as part of Operation Overboard, which sought to target a group of local drug traffickers over the course of the year.
Liverpool Crown Court heard how he was involved in the storage, couriering, cutting and supply of drugs of those higher up in the organisation and how the ‘conspiracy could not have operated without the actions he took’.
Nine men, including Porcelli, were sentenced on Monday 20 December to a total of more than 89 years in jail for their part in the conspiracy.
Porcelli was sentenced to seven years and six months for conspiracy to supply cocaine and diamorphine, and conspiracy to supply cannabis.
During the investigation, Merseyside Police revealed that detectives seized more than £282,500 of cash, firearms and ammunition and a substantial amount of Class A drugs with a street value of more than £1.3 million.
On the day of the sentencing, Detective Inspector Paul McVeigh said: “Today’s sentencing of nine men under Operation Venetic and Operation Overboard is a huge success.
“Infiltrating this gang of co-conspirators was an operation in itself, and it is pleasing to see all 11 offenders in this organised crime group jailed for their crimes.
“Our officers have worked hard in a year-long investigation to unravel this crime gang, which was under the control of Sean Burrell, who employed criminal associates to further his criminality.
“We have recovered cash, firearms and drugs following searches at addresses.
“The trial of Thomas O’Brien was the first involving Encrochat data in Merseyside, and there have been many more since. Despite him contesting using an Encrochat device his case went to trial, and the evidence against him was so strong that he was found guilty by a unanimous verdict in November.
“I would ask anyone who has any information about who is supplying or selling drugs in their area to contact us so we can take action.”

Ancient Writings Referring to King David Confirmed on Stone in Louvre Museum

Israel — Researchers at the Louvre Museum in Paris have confirmed that the text on an ancient stone on display there, the Moabite Stone, also known as the Mesha Stele, refers to King David in the Bible.
The Moabite Stone, dating back to 840 BC, was found fragmented, in 1868, in the region of Moab in Jordan, about 15 miles east of the Dead Sea.
The stone sustained further damage in 1869, but archaeologists had earlier made a paper-mache likeness of the text, which was written in an extinct Moabite language, and described events in the Book of Kings from the Old Testament.
The stele includes phrases such as “House of David” and “Altar of David,” but the damage to the stone’s face made accurate translation of the text difficult.
By using newer technology, including enhancing techniques in digital photography, researchers verified that the text does refer to the biblical King David.
The Moabite Stone is about 3 feet tall by 2 feet wide and was hewn out of black basalt. On it was inscribed the deeds of the Moabite King Mesha, including territorial battles against Judah, Israel, and Edom.
The description of the House of David on the stone is only five letters, BTDWD, which in Hebrew would refer to BT or Beit (House) and DWD (David).
The references in the Bible are found in 2 Kings, Chapter 3.

Iranian Christians Persevere Under Intense Persecution

Christians continue to face increased pressure and persecution as the Iranian authorities tighten their grip on the nation in response to nationwide protests since September 2022 that have shaken the Islamic Republic of Iran’s entire social and political system. Christian converts from Islam in particular face persecution, including imprisonment of house church leaders and denial of their basic rights as citizens.
Since the 1979 Islamic Revolution that brought the current Iranian government to power, hundreds of thousands, some estimates say up to a million, Iranians have converted to Christianity. This rapidly growing minority of Christian converts have no formal recognition under Iranian law, and as such receive no basic protection. They are considered as direct enemies of the Iranian state, subject to direct violence and arrest of their leaders and house church members, and under the current structure of law, they are treated as apostates and thus have absolutely no freedom of belief.
Despite these persecutions, the number of converts in Iran continue to grow. The care and charity demonstrated by Iranian house churches during the increased public and economic challenges encountered during COVID-19 further strengthened the witness of Christians across the nation. Also, the testimonies of Christian converts who have refused to renounce their new faith identity have impacted have both challenged and encouraged many more to consider following Christ.
