Bible Reading Surges Among Surprising Portions of the Population: Study

Published

on

There’s an increase in Bible use and Scripture engagement among younger Americans and men, according to a new study from the American Bible Society.

In fact, the first chapter of the organization’s annual State of the Bible report titled, “The Bible in America,” found a rise in Bible users from 38% to 41%, which means there are 10 million more U.S. adults reading the Bible outside houses of worship at least three times each year.

But the increases are particularly notable among young people and men.

“Millennials saw a 29% increase in Bible Use from 2024 to 2025 and men saw a 19% increase, closing the long-time gender gap in Bible Use,” a press release reads. “In recent years, Millennials and men were among the least likely to use the Bible.”

The American Bible Society also found that Scripture engagement — something described as a “deeper” exploration of people’s interactions with the Bible — increased in 2025, with younger people also driving that shift.

Among members of Gen Z, Scripture engagement rose from 11% in 2024 to 15% in 2025. Likewise, Millennials saw a shift during this same time that crew from 12% to 17%, according to the study.

Notably, the survey also explored Americans’ beliefs about how they wish to interact with the Bible, with 51% telling the American Bible Society they would like to read the Christian Scriptures more often.

Dr. John Plake, editor-in-chief of the State of the Bible series and the chief innovation officer at the American Bible Society, said the findings are notable.

“For the first time since 2021, we’re seeing an increase in both Bible Use and Scripture engagement, particularly among younger adults and in men,” he said in a statement. “People are curious about the Bible and Jesus.”

Plake continued, noting there’s an opportunity for Christians and the church to meet this interest with the truth: “How will the Church respond? Together we must respond with creativity and innovation. Opportunities like this don’t come along every day, so we need to listen carefully and respond to our neighbors with grace, hope, and truth.”

In a recent interview with CBN News prior to the survey’s release, Plake said he recently “woke up” to the positive changes happening surrounding faith in America when he observed shocking spikes in Bible sales.

“I guess I woke up … when … the press reached out to me about the Wall Street Journal article that was published last October about a spike in Bible sales,” Dr. John Plake, chief program officer at the American Bible Society, recently told CBN News.

Plake said he often takes great strides to compare what’s happening anecdotally in his own church experience with the real numbers and statistics on the ground to ensure he’s rightly understanding real patterns versus what he’s “personally experiencing.”

He said there are numerous positive trends and that this positive trajectory is happening in other nations as well.

“I think from a lot of angles, from Europe, from the United States, from Canada, from data, and from experience, we’re starting to get a sense that there is something going on,” Plake said. Read more here.

Data for the State of the Bible was collected among 2,656 U.S. adults via online interviews conducted from Jan. 2-21, 2025.

(Dino Learns Not To Waste Food)

(The Call of the Nether)

A four-year-old Indian-American boy has achieved a record for publishing a book. Advay Jain became the youngest person to publish a book in the male category, according to Guinness World Records.

Advay Jain was born on April 23, 2022, in Monmouth Junction, New Jersey, USA. He is recognised as the youngest person to publish a book (male).

Book Inspired By Preschool
Advay’s book was inspired by lunchtime at his preschool. The idea for the book came from his experiences during lunchtime at preschool. The record was verified in Monmouth Junction, New Jersey, on April 3, 2026.

The official Instagram account of the Consulate General of India shared a post showing the Consul General of India in New York, Binaya Srikanta Pradhan, meeting Advay Jain.

“Consul General Binaya Srikanta Pradhan welcomed 4-year-old Indian-origin author Advay Jain, Guinness World Record holder for being the youngest male to publish a book.”

Consul General of India in New York, Binaya Srikanta Pradhan, congratulated Advay on his achievement.

“Through his book “Dino Learns Not to Waste Food”, Advay inspires young readers to value food and embrace the importance of avoiding food waste,” the post from the Consul General reads.

“Warm congratulations to Advay on this remarkable achievement, and best wishes to Advay and his 12-year-old sister, Ms. Avya, also an author and painter, as they continue to inspire young minds through their creativity and stories,” it added.

In a blow to Indian IT majors, the United States on Thursday suspended several companies from the Permanent Labour Certification Programme, which lets firms apply for green cards for H-1B visa workers, arguing that the practice takes away jobs from Americans. The affected companies include Cognizant, Infosys, Tata, Wipro, and HCL.

US Labour Secretary Keith Sonderling announced the move, which also impacts Western behemoths like Capgemini, Microsoft and Adobe. He was flanked by the head of the US Anti-Fraud Task Force and Vice President JD Vance.

“I am hereby suspending from the Permanent Labour Certification Programme some of the largest IT outsourcing firms in the world, Cognizant, Infosys, Tata, Wipro, HCL, and Capgemini,” Sonderling said.

He said the US government will not accept “any new or process” any pending permanent labour certification applications involving these companies.

“Since 2009, just these companies alone have requested almost three million foreign workers. They’ve received over 230,000 H-1B visa approvals and over 100,000 permanent labour certifications,” Sonderling added.

He accused these companies of taking away hundreds of thousands of jobs from American workers.

The programme allows employers to sponsor foreign workers for permanent employment and residency.

Vance slammed Microsoft, calling it a company that abused the system the most.

“Microsoft laid off 6,000 American workers in 2025 after certifying that it could not find qualified American employees – yet the company was approved for more than 6,000 H-1Bs and filed 3,682 PERM applications, including nearly 1,000 applications for the same positions as the laid-off American workers,” the vice president said.

Indian IT professionals bag the lion’s share of the approved H-1B visa applications every year. As part of its larger crackdown against immigration to the US to save American jobs, the Donald Trump administration has been taking measures to make it difficult for companies to hire cost-effective talent from India and other South Asian nations on these temporary visas.

Last month, the Trump administration extended an executive order that would impose a fee of $100,000 for H-1B non-immigrant visas by another year.

JD Vance today called foreign workers hired on H1-B visas “foreign indentured servants” and the companies using the programme as “visa mills”.

He also claimed that “something weird” is underway in universities that sponsor research scholars through the J-1 visa programme.

“Something weird is going on at these universities. They’re using these visas way too much. They’re using them to undercut the wages of American grad students and American researchers,” Vance said.

“This is a fundamental insult to the American worker and to the American way of life. We cannot allow visa programs that were designed to ensure that American corporations had access to the best and the brightest, to use them to undercut the wages of American workers,” he added.

Vance accused the firms, chiefly Microsoft, of subverting due process. He claimed the rules require companies to advertise jobs in America before applying to the Department of Labour that they need foreign workers.

“They’ll put an advertisement in a small-town newspaper. They’ll go out there and say that ‘We have advertised for a position with our company, and nobody is responding to it.’ And they will use that lack of response to then go and replace American workers with what is effectively foreign indentured servants,” he claimed.

NASSCOM Reacts
Industry body NASSCOM said Indian technology companies have reduced their dependence on H-1B visas.

“While the decision affects a specific immigration pathway, NASSCOM has consistently maintained that immigration and skilled talent mobility are two distinct issues and should not be viewed through the same lens,” it said in a statement.

“The H-1B visa programme has historically played an important role in addressing short-term skill gaps in the U.S., and it will continue to be used to address short-term talent gaps. However, over a number of years, Indian technology companies have significantly reduced their dependence on H-1B visas, while steadily expanding local hiring and building a strong domestic workforce in the U.S. They work with majority of the US fortune 500 companies, enable them to innovate and grow, and generate more local jobs,” it added.
