വിന്‍ഡോസ് കംപ്യൂട്ടറുകളെ ലക്ഷ്യംവെക്കുന്ന വൈറസിനെതിരേ ഇന്ത്യന്‍ കംപ്യൂട്ടര്‍ എമര്‍ജന്‍സി റെസ്പോണ്‍സ് ടീം ആണ് കഴിഞ്ഞദിവസം മുന്നറിയിപ്പ് നല്‍കിയത്.

കാലിഫോർണിയ: മാതൃകമ്പനിയുടെ പേരിൽ മാറ്റം വരുത്തി ഫെയ്സ്ബുക്ക്. ‘മെറ്റ’ എന്നകും കമ്പനിയുടെ പുതിയ പേരെന്ന് ഫെയ്സ്ബുക്ക് സ്ഥാപകൻ മാർക്ക് സക്കർബർഗ് അറിയിച്ചു. ഫെയ്സ്ബുക്ക് കണക്ട് ഓഗ് മെന്റഡ് ആൻഡ് വിർച്വൽ റിയാലിറ്റി കോൺഫറൻസിലാണ് അദ്ദേഹം ഇക്കാര്യം അറിയിച്ചത്.

പേര് മാറ്റത്തോടെ ഫെയ്സ്ബുക്ക് ആപ്പ് അതിന്റെ മാതൃകമ്പനിക്ക് കീഴിലാകും. വാട്സാപ്പ്, ഇൻസ്റ്റഗ്രാം, ഒക്കുലസ് തുടങ്ങിയ അവരുടെ സേവനങ്ങളും ഈ മാതൃകമ്പനിക്ക് കീഴിൽ വരും. ബ്രാൻഡ് നെയിം മാറ്റത്തോടെ സ്മാർട്ട്ഫോൺ അടക്കമുള്ള ഡിജിറ്റൽ ഉത്പന്നങ്ങളുടെ നിർമാണത്തിലേക്ക് കടക്കാൻ സക്കർബർഗ് ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നുവെന്നാണ് വിവരം.

Late Monday, Facebook and the social media apps it owns, WhatsApp and Instagram, suffered a major global outage, including in India, lasting several hours.

The outage potentially prevented billions of users of these apps across the globe from accessing, sending or receiving messages, on these platforms.

In a tweet, Facebook wrote, “We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience”.

WhatsApp, too, tweeted: “We’re aware that some people are experiencing issues with WhatsApp at the moment. We’re working to get things back to normal and will send an update here as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience!”

India alone has 53 crore WhatsApp users and 21 crore Instagram users. Facebook has 41 crore users in India.

The Facebook family of apps suffered a major outage earlier this year in March, when the services were down for almost 45 minutes. Prior to this, in 2020 alone, four major WhatsApp outages had occurred, of which the most major one was in January, which had lasted around three hours. After this, there was one in April, followed by a two-hour outage in July and a brief one in August.

According to The New York Times, which cited two anonymous Facebook security team members, the outage was not likely a result of a cyberattack because the technology behind the apps was still different enough that one hack was not likely to affect all of them at once.

Attempts to open the Facebook website returned a DNS error — the same error that had caused a global outage when internet infrastructure company Akamai suffered a glitch in its systems in July this year.

There has been a increase in internet outages in recent years.

According to data from ThousandEyes, a network-monitoring service owned by Cisco Systems Inc, there were 367 global internet outages in the week ending September 26, making it the third consecutive week of increasing outages.
