300,000-Member Indian Church to Plant 40 More Megachurches
Calvary Temple in Hyderabad is the India’s largest church with more than 300,000 members. Now, they are on a mission to build 40 more megachurches in the coming years.
On sunday most roads in Hyderabad that lead to Calvary Temple, early morning 4 a.m., side streets around the church here are already jammed.
As church volunteers coordinate traffic, shuttle buses, auto rickshaws and motorcycles for thousands of people, all trying to arrive at church before two hours ahead of Calvary’s first of five services that begin at 6 a.m.
By sunrise, the bielievers have occupied all most all the seats.
The main sanctuary holds 18,000 people supported by adjacent Bethlehem Hall with 15,000 and a third structure accommodating more than 3,000 more.
Hundreds more watch on television screens scattered around the sprawling Calvary campus. Pastor Satish Kumar preaches all five services with the last one ending at 8 p.m.
“I’ve been given the grace to pastor this church which is beyond my dream and imagination,” Pastor Satish Kumar told.
Calvary Temple started in 2005 with about two dozen people. Today, it boasts more than 300,000 members making it one of the largest churches in the world.
They have 11 satellite churches and plans for more in nationwide expansion.
“God put a burden in my heart to establish 40 mega churches just like what you see here during the next coming years,” said Pastor Satish Kumar.
PastorSatish Kumar says the church adds around 3,000 new believers each month in a sign that the Lord is moving mightily across the country.
“God’s hand is upon India, it’s a time for India to reach the lost, not only within the country but across the globe,” Pastor Satish Kumar said.
In addition, the church produces over 650 TV programs each month in 17 major Indian languages for broadcast on national television.
“It’s not only within the nation, but also in Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Gulf countries,” said Kumar.
Millions more follow on social media page of the church.
“We Preaching the pure Word of God is what attracts people, and practicing the Word of God is what keeps people within the church,” said Pastor Satish Kumar. That practical demonstration is on full display here each Sunday.
Narayana Podhili works as a civil engineer leads a group of 150 church volunteers who spend hours chopping, slicing, peeling, and stirring all to prepare free breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals for 50,000 people.
“We are committed to come here every Sunday at 3:30 a.m., 4 a.m., and we keep working till evening,” Podhili told.
Nagavalli Mendem has served in the Calvary kitchen for seven years after making a promise to God that if He healed her cancerous tumor, she would serve the church in this capacity. “Because I made that promise, God healed me completely without surgery,” Mendem said. “God cleared the tumor in my chest and healed me. As a thanksgiving to Him, I serve here at the Lord’s house.”
She and volunteers feed more than 200,000 people each month.
Calvary also has an on-campus hospital where members get free medical treatment on Sundays and medicines at reduced cost.
“The majority of the people who come here are poor and cannot afford treatment,” said Dr. Vinod Kumar of Calvary Hospital.
Members also have access to church facilities to hold marriages. And when a church member passes away, Calvary handles all funeral, burial, and meal arrangements all for free.
In 2007, Calvary Temple started an access card system, the first of its kind, to follow up with members and their families.
“I have thousands of people. How do I know who hasn’t shown up on a Sunday? As I was praying God put access card into my mind,” Pastor Satish Kumar said.
Each member must swipe their card when attending any one of the five Sunday services.
“Without fail, if we don’t show up to church, we get a call,” said Chandraiah, a Calvary Temple member. “They’ll ask me why I didn’t come to church and after they find out they will pray for me. I’m happy when I receive that call. Not only that, but the fact also that they care for us is special, and because of that we will surely come to the next service.”
Pastor Satish Kumar says prayer has always been an integral part of their success. The church has held 40 days of prayer and fasting regularly since 2005 drawing tens of thousands of young participants to stadiums around the country.
“During this 40 days of fasting and prayer, the Pastor Satish Kumar will teach from Genesis to Revelation and from every book he will try to explain.”
Each month, the church, along with its satellite campuses, holds a “Night with God” as members pray for revival.
About 25,000 to 30,000 people join. That has been the biggest, largest all-night prayer services in the nation.

ജൂലൈ 23ന് അന്‍പതോളം പേർ പോലീസ് സൂപ്രണ്ടിന് സമർപ്പിച്ച നിവേദനത്തിൽ ഒപ്പുവച്ചു. ആരോപണത്തെ പിന്തുണയ്ക്കുന്ന വീഡിയോ ദൃശ്യങ്ങളും തങ്ങളുടെ പക്കലുണ്ടെന്ന് അവർ അറിയിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. തീവ്രഹിന്ദുത്വവാദികള്‍ ക്രൈസ്തവര്‍ക്ക് നേരെ ആക്രമണം അഴിച്ചു വിടുകയാണെന്നും ബൈബിളിൻ്റെ പകർപ്പുകൾ നശിപ്പിച്ചെന്നും പരാതിയില്‍ സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. “ക്രിസ്ത്യാനികൾ പള്ളിയിലോ വീടുകളിലോ പ്രാർത്ഥനാ യോഗങ്ങൾ നടത്തിയാൽ അവരെ ഒന്നൊന്നായി അടിക്കുമെന്ന്” പ്രവർത്തകർ ഭീഷണിപ്പെടുത്തിയതായും ആരോപണമുണ്ട്.
ഹൈന്ദവ വിശ്വാസത്തില്‍ നിന്ന് ക്രൈസ്തവ / ഇസ്ലാം വിശ്വാസത്തിലേക്കുള്ള മതപരിവർത്തനം ക്രിമിനൽ കുറ്റമാക്കുന്ന മതപരിവർത്തന വിരുദ്ധ നിയമം നിലവിലുള്ള ഇന്ത്യയിലെ 11 സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നാണ് ഉത്തർപ്രദേശ്. ഭാരതത്തില്‍ ക്രൈസ്തവര്‍ക്ക് നേരെ ഏറ്റവും അധികം ആക്രമണം നടക്കുന്നത് ഉത്തര്‍പ്രദേശിലാണെന്ന് യുണൈറ്റഡ് ക്രിസ്ത്യന്‍ ഫോറം നേരത്തെ പുറത്തുവിട്ട കണക്കുകളില്‍ നിന്ന് വ്യക്തമാണ്. ഉത്തർപ്രദേശിലെ 200 ദശലക്ഷത്തിലധികം ജനങ്ങളിൽ 1 ശതമാനത്തിൽ താഴെ മാത്രമാണ് ക്രിസ്ത്യാനികൾ.

ന്യൂഡൽഹി:രാഷ്ട്രപതി ഭവനിലെ രണ്ട് പ്രധാന ഹാളുകളുടെ പേര് മാറ്റി. ദര്‍ബാര്‍ ഹാളിനെ ഗണതന്ത്ര മണ്ഡപ് എന്നും അശോക് ഹാളിനെ അശോക് മണ്ഡപ് എന്നുമാണ് പുനര്‍നാമകരണം ചെയ്തത്. ഇതുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട പ്രസ് റിലീസ് പുറത്തുവിട്ടിരിക്കുകയാണ് രാഷ്ട്രപതി ഭവൻ.
“ഇന്ത്യൻ രാഷ്ട്രപതിയുടെ ഓഫീസും വസതിയും സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന രാഷട്രപതി ഭവൻ രാഷ്ട്രത്തിൻ്റെ അടയാളമാണ്, അത് രാജ്യത്തെ ജനങ്ങളുടെ വിലയേറിയ പൈതൃകത്തിൻ്റെ ഭാഗമാണ്. രാഷ്ട്രപതി ഭവനിലേക്ക് ആളുകളുടെ ആക്സസ് വര്‍ധിപ്പിക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള ശ്രമങ്ങള്‍ നടത്തി വരികയാണ്, രാഷ്ട്രപതി ഭവനിലെ അന്തരീക്ഷം ഇന്ത്യൻ സാംസ്കാരിക മൂല്യങ്ങള്‍ക്കും ധാര്‍മ്മികതക്കും അനുസരിച്ച് മാറ്റം വരുത്തുകയാണ്” – ഹാളുകളുടെ പേര് മാറ്റിക്കൊണ്ട് രാഷട്രപതി ഭവൻ പുറത്തു വിട്ട പ്രസ് റിലീസിൽ വ്യക്തമാക്കി. തുടര്‍ന്ന് ദര്‍ബാര്‍ ഹാളിൻ്റെ പേര് ഗണതന്ത്ര മണ്ഡപ്, അശോക് ഹാളിൻ്റെ പേര് അശോക് മണ്ഡപ് എന്ന് രാഷ്ട്രപതി പുനര്‍നാമകരണം ചെയ്യുന്നതായി റിലീസിൽ രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.
ദര്‍ബാര്‍ ഹാള്‍
ദേശീയ അവാര്‍ഡുകള്‍ ദാനം ചെയ്തുന്നതിനും മറ്റു പ്രധാന ആഘോഷങ്ങള്‍ക്കുമെല്ലാം വേദിയാകുന്ന സ്ഥലമാണ് ദര്‍ബാര്‍ ഹാള്‍. ഇന്ത്യൻ ഭരണാധികാരികളുടെയും ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് ഭരണാധികാരികളുടെയും കോടതി, അസംബ്ലി തുടങ്ങിയ അര്‍ഥങ്ങളാണ് ദര്‍ബാറിനുള്ളതെന്ന് റിലീസിൽ പറയുന്നു. ഇന്ത്യ റിപ്പബ്ലിക് ആയതിലൂടെ ഈ പേരിനുള്ള പ്രാധാന്യം നഷ്ടമായിട്ടുണ്ടെന്നും അതുകൊണ്ടാണ് ഗണതന്ത്ര എന്ന് പേര് നൽകുന്നത്. പുരാതന കാലം മുതൽ ഇന്ത്യൻ സമൂഹമായി ആഴത്തിൽ ബന്ധപ്പമുള്ള ആശയമാണ് ഗണതന്ത്ര എന്നും അതുകൊണ്ടാണ് ഈ പേര് നൽകുന്നതെന്നും റിലീസിൽ വ്യക്തമാണ്.
അശോക് ഹാള്‍
ഒരു ബാള്‍റൂമായിരുന്നു അശോക് ഹോള്‍. എല്ലാ കഷ്ടതകളിൽ നിന്നും സ്വതന്ത്രമായത്, സങ്കടങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നെല്ലാം ഒഴിവായത് എന്ന അര്‍ഥമാണ് അശോക് എന്ന വാക്കിന് അര്‍ഥം. അതോടൊപ്പം ഐക്യത്തിൻ്റെയും സമാധാനപരമായ സഹവര്‍ത്തിത്വത്തിൻ്റെയും അടയാളമായ അശോക ചക്രവര്‍ത്തിയുടെ പേരിലും അശോക് എന്ന വാക്ക് അറിയപ്പെടുന്നുണ്ട്. സര്‍നാഥിലെ അശോകൻ്റെ സിംഹം റിപ്ലബ്ലിക് ഓഫ് ഇന്ത്യയുടെ ദേശീയ അടയാളമാണ്.
ഇന്ത്യയിലെ മതപരമായതും കലാപരമായതും സാംസ്കാരികപരവുമായ പാരമ്പര്യങ്ങളിൽ ഏറെ പ്രാധാന്യമുള്ള അശോക മരത്തെയും ഈ പേര് പ്രതിനിധീകരിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. അതുകൊണ്ട് തന്നെ ആ പേര് നിലനിര്‍ത്തി ഭാഷപരമായി ഏകരൂപം കൊണ്ടു വരാൻ മണ്ഡപ് എന്നാക്കി മാറ്റുകയും ചെയ്തിരിക്കുകയാണ്. അശോക് എന്ന വാക്കിൻ്റെ മൂല്യം നിലനിര്‍ത്തുന്നതോടൊപ്പം അതിലെ ആംഗലേയ വേരുകള്‍ നീക്കുക എന്നതാണ് ഇതിലൂടെ ലക്ഷ്യമിടുന്നത്.

ജൂലായ് 15ന് അസംബ്ലിയിൽ ഇംഗ്ലീഷിന് പകരം ഹിന്ദിയിൽ പ്രാർഥന ചൊല്ലുന്നത് സിസ്റ്റർ കാതറിൻ വട്ടോളി കണ്ടതായി വൈസ് പ്രിൻസിപ്പൽ സിസ്റ്റർ രശ്മി കുഴിയിൽ പറഞ്ഞു. ഹിന്ദിയിൽ പ്രാർത്ഥന ചൊല്ലിയ കുട്ടികളെ സ്കൂളിലെ പ്രബോധന മാധ്യമം പിന്തുടരാനും ഇംഗ്ലീഷിൽ പ്രാർത്ഥനകൾ വായിക്കാനും നിർദ്ദേശിച്ചു.
ജൂലൈ 22 ന് ഒരു രാഷ്ട്രീയ പാർട്ടിയുടെ യുവജന വിഭാഗത്തിലെ 50 ഓളം പ്രവർത്തകർ സ്‌കൂൾ വളപ്പിൽ ബലമായി കയറി പ്രിൻസിപ്പലിനും സ്‌കൂൾ മാനേജ്‌മെൻ്റിനുമെതിരെ മുദ്രാവാക്യം വിളിക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങി. ഹിന്ദു വിദ്യാർത്ഥികളുടെ മതവികാരം വ്രണപ്പെടുത്തിയെന്ന് ആരോപിച്ച് സിസ്റ്റർ കാതറിൻ വട്ടോളിയെ ഉടൻ നീക്കം ചെയ്യണമെന്നും അവർ ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടു.
സ്കൂളിലെ ഏതാനും വിദ്യാർഥികൾ പിന്നീട് പ്രതിഷേധക്കാർക്കൊപ്പം ചേർന്നു. പരാതിയെക്കുറിച്ച് പോലീസ് ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥർ സ്‌കൂളിനെ അറിയിച്ചെങ്കിലും സ്‌കൂൾ അധികൃതർക്ക് ഇതുവരെ അതിൻ്റെ പകർപ്പ് ലഭിച്ചിട്ടില്ല.
ജൂലായ് 23-ന് ജില്ലാ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥനും മറ്റുള്ളവരും സ്‌കൂളിലെത്തി വിദ്യാർത്ഥികളിൽ നിന്നും ജീവനക്കാരിൽ നിന്നും മൊഴി രേഖപ്പെടുത്തി.
