Pastor’s Dog Dies Saving Family From Tennessee Tornado

A man whose house was destroyed by a Tennessee tornado is crediting an unlikely source for helping his family of five escape the storm unscathed: his late dog.
Darrin Crockett was miffed when Doc, the family dog, would not stop barking the night of Monday, March 2 at the family’s home in Cookeville.
Crockett, his wife Jenny and their three daughters had gone to bed, but Doc remained awake, barking again and again into the night.
“It was really making me angry because I wanted to sleep,” he told the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board. “I went out several times to check, and there was nothing outside, nothing going on, but he kept barking, and I remember praying to the lord, ‘I know that you’re sovereign over all things, and so could you please make our dog quit barking, make him shut up?’”
Doc didn’t stop barking — but as it turns out, his noises were a lucky break for Crockett, as being awake allowed him to hear a storm alert on his phone and get his family to safety in the nick of time.
“I think the lord had other reasons for the dog barking, because I was able to hear our phone buzz when the severe thunderstorm warning came through,” he said. “It is amazing. If our dog had not alerted us, who knows where we would have ended up?”
After being alerted to a tornado warning on his phone, Crockett rounded up his wife and daughters, ages 10 to 15, and they quickly sought shelter in their laundry room, which he called their “safety go-to place.”
Though Crockett thought he had time to spare, he told the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board that he’d only just closed the laundry room door when their house began to crumble.
“The house starts shaking, and it was on us, and the next thing you know, it was gone and we are underneath the house,” he said.
After making sure his family was accounted for, Jenny, with the help of flashlights and the illumination of lightning strikes, was able to find an opening for the family to crawl through to make their way to safety.
“In cleanup yesterday, we found the washer and dryer laid on their backs, and the board, the 2×4 that had fallen on them, and I think that probably had supported the part of our house that had fallen on us,” he said. “We’re just fortunate to have had room to crawl out and only experienced some minor scrapes and nail pokes along the way.”
Crockett said that as his family made their escape, they could hear Doc “moaning and whimpering” but were unable to find him.
They later learned that he died in the storm.
“He will go down as a hero,” Crockett told the Baptist and Reflector. “We will celebrate him and talk about him for a long time.”
Crockett, the associate pastor of Vine Branch Community Church and a school administrator and the athletic director at Highland Rim Academy, later returned to where his house once stood to clean up and found only rubble.
“Darrin and Jenny have always been so giving in our community and especially to our youth,” the page reads. “Now it’s time for us to step up and help them.”
The tornadoes last week killed at least 24 people in parts of Nashville and central Tennessee, including Putnam, Benton and Wilson Counties.

Eliana Grace Flores testified on her Instagram account how God prompted her to share the Gospel with everyone while she was on an airplane. During the flight, Eliana shared how the Lord kept on telling her to preach the Gospel. Thinking that she couldn’t do it, she said, “God, I’m not there yet.”
“Okay let me begin with this… if there was any person who was the most scared to preach the Gospel publicly, it was me.”
After spending some time with the Lord, she suddenly felt excited to share the Gospel. Before she stood up and opened her mouth to speak, she spent the entire flight praying and reading the Word of God. When the plane finally landed, she knew that it was her time to let Jesus be known.
“When it came to the time, the enemy began to lie saying, ‘You don’t need to do it. Just talk to one person and that’s it.’ But I heard the Holy Spirit right after speak to me twice and what He said is so important for us to know as Christians, He said, ‘Eliana, all you have to do is open your mouth, and I will fill it.'”

‘Please…Pray For Us!’: Wife of Man Fighting For Life After Being Shot in Head While Preaching Pens Powerful Message

The wife of a Christian man shot in the head Nov. 15 while preaching is imploring people to continue fervently praying for her husband and family.
Zulya Schmidt, wife of 26-year-old Hans Schmidt, wrote a touching Thanksgiving message on her Facebook page Thursday, expressing her profound gratitude despite the family’s tragic circumstances.
As CBN Digital reported, Schmidt, a 26-year-old dad of two and the outreach director at Victory Chapel First Phoenix in Arizona, was taken to the hospital Nov. 15 on suspicion of having been assaulted.
But a CT scan revealed he had been shot. Schmidt has reportedly remained in serious condition, as his family hopes and prays for a miracle.
Despite facing such grim days, Zulya Schmidt is looking to God for peace.
“So much to be grateful for,” she wrote on her Facebook page. “I am thankful for the amazing husband I got blessed with and all the fun adventures we’ve experienced and will experience.”
Schmidt went on to write a message directly to her husband, expressing her thankfulness also for the love he has shown her and their children.
“You blessed me with two sweet and beautiful children,” Schmidt wrote. “You are such a great and fun dad! I’ve always loved and admired your humility and willingness to help and serve.”
She also expressed appreciation for the messages of support and emotional assistance she has received since the shooting made headlines and shocked the nation.
“I’m grateful for all the love, support, and prayers we have received during this time,” Schmidt wrote. “Lastly, so grateful for a God we believe in and serve who upholds us during times like this.”
She continued, “Hans should have been gone that first night, but he’s still here fighting. Please continue to pray for us! We desperately need it.”
Victory Chapel First Phoenix is currently raising money for the family and has been updating the public about the tragic situation.
“Our outreach director, Hans Schmidt, was shot while street preaching on Wednesday night (Nov 15th) before service,” the church’s website explains. “He is in critical condition and in desperate need of a miracle.”
According to Blaze Media, the incident unfolded in Glendale, Arizona, with authorities investigating the shooting after initially receiving a report someone had been assaulted.
Officer Gina Winn, public information official with the Glendale Police Department, called the horrific event is a “horrible, horrible offense,” and said authorities believe someone in the community knows information about what unfolded.
Continuing praying for Schmidt’s recovery — and for his family.
