Coins from Bible times were found in the Tower of David in Jerusalem

Published

on

Archeologists in Jerusalem’s Old City have discovered a box containing artifacts including a rare silver “Tyre Coin,” which, they believe, might have been used by pilgrims to pay the Temple tax during the reign of King Herod.

The coin has the image of Melqart, the chief god of the Phoenician city of Tyre, imprinted on one side, and that of an eagle on the other, according to The Times of Israel, which said the box holding the coin was originally found during an excavation in the 1980s.

The box, which was lost, was discovered recently as part of a conservation project at the Tower of David Museum, The Jerusalem Post reported.

The “Tyre shekel,” very few of which have been found thus far, was used during the Second Temple Period and produced in the ancient city of Tyre from 125 BCE until the outbreak of the Great Revolt in 66 CE.

“We know from the Gospels that Jesus visited Jerusalem … and we know that He talked to the money changers. So here we have the evidence, the archaeological evidence to the historical sources,” Eilat Lieber, the director of the museum, told CBN News.

The Tower of David complex includes Herod’s palace where the trial of Jesus took place, according to the Bible.

“The Tower of David is one of the most important structures in Israel, both in terms of its history and location,” The Jerusalem Post quoted Yotam Carmel, conservation manager at Ken HaTor, the company put in charge of the project, as saying. “The last conservation project at the Tower of David was carried out in the 1980s. Since then, the citadel has been in desperate need of conservation.”

It connects the ages, Lieber was quoted as saying.

“You can see how the past, the present, and the future are actually here at the Tower of David. During the work for the future of the citadel, we found the evidence from the past. And we can actually, know more about our identity. Christians can see how the sources, the Gospels are coming alive here in Jerusalem. … All we want is to bring Jerusalem to the world, the story of Jerusalem, the rich history of all of us, Jewish people, Christians from all over the world.”

The rare coin will be displayed in a new and permanent exhibit at the museum, which is scheduled to reopen next year.

Wycliffe Associates to Use Elon Musk’s Starlink to Spread the Gospel in Remote Parts of the World

Published

on

A ministry that aims to give people in remote regions of the world the Word of God in their own language will be using satellite internet service owned by SpaceX to put Bibles into their hands faster.

Wycliffe Associates, an international organization that empowers “mother-tongue Bible translators and partners with local churches in the advancement of Bible translation,” announced they will use Elon Musk’s Starlink technology to help national Bible translators in isolated regions gain access to the internet.

Most of the time, translators have no internet access and are without electricity. They also rely on solar energy to power their equipment. However, according to the organization, the technology will give users in distant areas internet speeds similar to those with in-ground services.

The technology will benefit Bible translation teams, whose members typically live and work in some of the world’s most hard-to-reach places.

“This is going to make a tremendous impact in terms of encouraging the translators, helping them with theological questions, and having that consistent connection where you can actually speak on the telephone as opposed to having to rely on a text message or an email,” said a Wycliffe Associates staff member. “Starlink’s going to improve our ability to stand alongside our translators.”

Advancements in technology have allowed Wycliffe Associates to gain more economical access to satellite internet systems. As a result, the organization is moving transition teams into more remote areas.

“We have thoroughly tested the technology over the past year, and we recently launched Starlink with a few Bible translation teams in very remote areas in Southeast Asia. We hope to expand to many different countries around the world in the near future,” said Mark Stedman, Vice President of Technology.

As CBN News reported, Wycliffe Associates is one of the world’s leading Bible translation organizations. It was started in 1967 by friends of Bible translators to accelerate the translation process.

Now, millions around the world have scriptures in their native languages. Wycliffe Associates says their work is far from over. Staff members and volunteers with the ministry are currently working to bring Bible translations to people in more than 60 countries.

Last summer, the ministry ramped up its effort to provide printed Bibles for Christians in 13 language groups across North Africa and the Middle East.

“Millions of people across North Africa and the Middle East have no hope of encountering God’s Word in their own heart language,” says Tabitha Price, Vice President of Translation Services for Wycliffe Associates. “The work of translating, printing, and distributing the Scriptures in North Africa and the Middle East has never been more important.”

Bible Museum’s Worship Exhibit Gives Viewers a ‘Foretaste of Heaven’

Published

on

There’s something special taking place at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C. It’s a worship experience like you’ve never seen or heard before.

It’s called “All Creation Sings” and is inspired by Psalm 148 which declares, “Let them praise the name of the Lord!” It’s a 45-minute experience posing the question: What is worship?

Garrett Hinton, Chief Revenue Officer at the Museum of the Bible, says, “When somebody says worship to me, my mind immediately goes to the thing that we do at church on Sundays before the pastor gets up and gives the sermon. That’s worship and indeed, that is worship. But as the Bible talks about worship, it’s so much more than that. So the story is the story of the Bible, and it’s taking you from Creation or Genesis all the way to Revelation.”

Using the latest light detection and 3D laser technology, you can literally interact with the walls.

“Suddenly I’m a little kid again and I could go and create and paint on the walls at the beginning and at the end of this story,” Hinton explained.

The Museum of the Bible teamed up with a group called CREATR to feature some of Christian music’s biggest names for this project.

“So you think of people like Jackie Hill Perry, Tasha Cobbs, Brandon Lake, Kari Job, Cody Carnes, Phil Wickham, Brooke Ligertwood, Chris Tomlin. It is the who’s who that have come together to create this organization called CREATR, lending their voices to this before you go into the experience, really setting up the experience so that your heart and your mind is prepared to talk about worship and what it is and who deems it worthy,” Hinton said.

“A Heavenly Experience”

“All Creation Sings” is not so much an exhibit but an experience. It takes guests on a journey through four acts, immersing them in a worship adventure that can only be described as heavenly.

Mother and daughter, Laura and Madison DeMichael from Ohio were enthralled.

“To see the Word of God come alive in front of me and just to be a part of that cacophony of praise, like they said in the beginning, it is a continual praise that is echoing to our Lord and our Savior, beyond a shadow of a doubt, it was an experience by far,” Laura told us.

Her daughter Madison said, “Oh, it was incredible, I’ve never seen anything like it, all the colors, all the sounds.”

When asked if it felt like a little foretaste of heaven Laura said, “Oh absolutely, absolutely, to just be a part of it and have it surrounding you.” Madison added “It makes me excited to see what heaven will be like, but not yet!” she said.

Sixth graders from our Lady of Victory School in Washington, D.C. appeared captivated by the experience.

Twelve-year-old Eleanor Rooney, thought the interactive part was really cool. “I’ve been to an interactive thing like that before, but not all around and with the screens and the projectors and everything, it was amazing,” she said.

Classmate Alex Vassallo, also 12, said, “I think it was amazing and it was kind of out of this world. My favorite part was probably the running around and touching the walls,” he said.

Sixth grader Chat Dakat added, “It was so awesome. There were all the colors and all the lights and the sounds. It was one of the most amazing things I’ve been to so far in my life,” she said.

And 12-year-old Sofia Bohr added, “It was fantastic, actually. There were all these colors and the animation, and I just really loved it.”

For their teacher, Jenna Drummond, it helped bring to life the Old Testament stories she’s been teaching her students.

“It was really awesome to see it 360 all around different walls and then seeing all my students just in awe of everything, that just brought me a lot of joy. But also going back to what we’ve been talking about all year, I teach religion for sixth grade, which is Old Testament. So, the Creation story, how we continue that in our daily lives now, and how we continue to pay that forward,” she said.

“Worship Is Our Purpose”

And for the Bible Museum, it’s a way to focus guests on our original purpose as children of God.

Matthias Walther, Chief Marketing Officer at the Museum of the Bible, told us, “Worship is our purpose. That’s what we’re created for. So, God created us, and he created our universe. That’s where it all starts. And I think to discover this, to see the greatness of our Creation, the greatness of God’s design in our existence, it takes you to a humble, really reflective place. And I think that’s always a good starting point to kind of find your space in the context of our existence of this world. And I think that’s specifically attractive for people who don’t have a faith background because it gives them a new North Star to understand, ‘So, what on earth am I here for?'” Walther said.

The “All Creation Sings” exhibit will be at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C. for the foreseeable future.

Christians Terrorized Around the Globe: How Murder, Torture, Mayhem Point to Growing Persecution

Published

on

Christian persecution is continuing to “get worse” across the globe, with Jeff King, president of International Christian Concern (ICC), lamenting the escalating “slow burn.”

King’s organization just released the “2025 Global Persecution Index,” which underscores just how deadly and dangerous anti-Christian persecution has become.

The 116-page report explores “every corner of the world” to identify where these issues are most pervasive, finding that there are around 300 million Christians globally who face a range of punishments, including prison, torture, and assassination.

“We have staff all over the world … so they’re feeding us back news of what’s going on in their countries, and what are the trends, and what are the incidents,” King said of ICC’s data collection for the report. “And then we’ve got a team of fellows.”

He added, “We’re constantly monitoring, and watching … to see what’s happening.”

The “2025 Global Persecution Index” shows a worsening persecution picture, ranging from terrifying government restrictions in China to rampant persecution and land-grabbing inside Nigeria.

Syria is one nation where newfound threats are on the horizon, with King warning that Al-Qaeda and ISIS are taking control after the fall of President Bashar al-Assad’s regime. While the militants have been labeled “rebels” by some, he believes what’s unfolding in Syria is far more nefarious, with extremist Muslims taking over.

“That’s who these guys are, they’re called HTS [Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham],” he said, expressing doubt these forces wouldn’t harm or go after Christians. “They did a name change. They did a rebranding, as it were. And these guys are the worst of the worst.”

King also said Russia has destroyed hundreds of churches and heritage sites in Ukraine since Russia’s 2022 invasion, among other disturbing issues.

“And then you’ve got all the usual places like India and Egypt and just all over the world, North Korea, Nigeria,” King said. “It’s an absolutely horrible situation, but it just goes on and on. It’s not necessarily new, but it’s terrible.”

He said Nigeria and North Korea are without a doubt the two most difficult nations to be a Christian, with persecution at the most intense of rates. As for the former, he said Fulani terrorists and other Islamic extremists routinely target the faithful.

“[If] you’re a Christian farmer, you’re a Christian villager … the Fulani terrorists, the Islamic terrorists [might] come in with guns, with machetes, and they shoot, and they maim, and they slice, and they drive you off the land,” King said. “And if you decide to come back, they’ll attack you again.”

He said the Nigerian government often does little to stop the carnage — and added that the U.S. government doesn’t put the required pressure on them to help stop the madness.

“Three-plus million Christian farmers have been driven off their lands,” King said.

As for North Korea, he lamented a government system that tends to “mimic Christianity” by elevating dictator Kim Jong Un to a god-like status.

“They’re constantly being told the propaganda that they live in a utopia and the best country on earth and the United States is the worst place on earth,” King said, noting anyone who goes against that narrative risks their lives.

Tragically, Christians bear the brunt of furor.

“If you’re a real Christian, you’re either killed right away or you’re sent to a gulag, a massive, massive prison camp,” he said. “These prison camps, some of them are the size of Washington, D.C., and they’re basically slow extermination chambers.”
