UAE announces space mission to Venus
UAE Space Agency has announced a new Emirati interplanetary mission to Venus and the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, with a launch scheduled for 2028.
Whenever the UAE announces a space mission, we get a little starry-eyed. Science geeks, fans of space, and anyone who has ever looked at the desert stars and felt very small (in a good way) will love this news.
Using knowledge acquired during the Emirates Mars Mission and its Hope Probe, a spacecraft will undertake a 3.6 billion-kilometre, five-year journey, which will see it perform gravity-assist maneuvers by orbiting Venus, then Earth, in order to finally reach the main asteroid belt, located beyond Mars.
The mission’s primary aim will be to explore the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter: the source of most meteorites that impact earth.
Through its journey, the spacecraft will orbit Venus in mid-2028, followed by a close orbit of Earth in mid-2029 (hello!) it will go on to study seven main belt asteroids before its final landing on an asteroid 560-million kilometres from Earth in 2033.
This will make the Emirates the fourth nation to land a spacecraft on an asteroid.
The announcement was made during a ceremony attended by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, that took place in Qasr Al Watan Palace in Abu Dhabi.
On this occasion, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed said, “We have set our eyes to the stars because our journey to development and progress has no boundaries, no borders and no limitations. Today we are investing in the generations to come.”
“With each new advancement we make in space, we create opportunities for young people here on earth.”
His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed said, “This new mission tests and extends the capabilities of Emirati youth in achieving Zayed’s ambition to explore space. We are certain that our talented local engineers, academic and research institutions, which have so far made quantum leaps in developing our space sector, are well equipped to take on this daring new challenge.”

വയനാട്ടിലെ ചീങ്ങേരമലയുടെയും കൊളഗപ്പാറ മലയുടെയും ഇടയിലാണ് ആറാട്ടുപാറയുടെ സ്ഥാനം. ഏത് നിമിഷവും ഉരുണ്ട് താഴെ വീഴുമെന്ന് തോന്നിപ്പിക്കുന്ന തരത്തിലാണ് മകുടപ്പാറയുള്ളത്. ഇതിന് തൊട്ടുതാഴെയായാണ് ‘പറന്നുയരാന്‍ കാത്തുനില്‍ക്കുന്ന’ തരത്തിലുള്ള പക്ഷിപ്പാറ. കാഴ്ചയുടെ അത്ഭുത വിരുന്നൊരുക്കി ഗുഹകളും ഇവിടെയുണ്ട്.
കല്‍പ്പറ്റ-ബത്തേരി റൂട്ടില്‍ 12 കിലോമീറ്റര്‍ സഞ്ചരിച്ച് മീനങ്ങാടി 54ല്‍ എത്തണം. ഇവിടെ നിന്ന് അമ്പലവയല്‍ റൂട്ടില്‍ നാല് കിലോമീറ്റര്‍ പോയാല്‍ കുമ്പളേരിയിലെ ആറാട്ടുപാറയിലെത്താം. മീനങ്ങാടിയില്‍ നിന്ന് ബസ്സിലാണ് യാത്രയെങ്കില്‍ എകെജി സ്റ്റോപ്പിലിറങ്ങണം. ഇവിടെ നിന്നും 500 മീറ്റര്‍ മാത്രം നടന്നാല്‍ ആറാട്ടുപാറയുടെ താഴെയെത്താം. സ്വകാര്യ വാഹനങ്ങളിലാണെങ്കില്‍ പാറയുടെ സമീപം വരെ പോകാം.
സ്ത്രീകള്‍ക്കും കുട്ടികള്‍ക്കുമെല്ലാം ചരിഞ്ഞ പാറക്കെട്ടിനുമുകളിലൂടെ 20 മിനിറ്റു കൊണ്ട് മലമുകളിലെത്താം. മുകളിലെത്തിക്കഴിഞ്ഞാൽ കാഴ്ചയുടെ ഒരു വിസ്മയം തന്നെയാണ് ഇവിടം സമ്മാനിക്കുക. സൂര്യോദയവും അസ്തമയും കാണാൻ നിരവധി പേർ ഇവിടേയ്ക്ക് എത്താറുണ്ട്. കാരാപ്പുഴ അണക്കെട്ടും അമ്പുകുത്തി, കൊളഗപ്പാറ, ഫാന്റം റോക്ക് മലകളും ഇവിടെയിരുന്ന് ആസ്വദിക്കാം.

വിവിധ മേഖലകളിൽ നേരത്തെ നടപ്പാക്കിയ ഡ്രൈവർ കാർഡ് സംവിധാനമാണ് നാളെ മുതൽ ടാക്സി ഡ്രൈവർമാർക്കും നിർബന്ധമാക്കുന്നത്. ഇതിനായി ട്രാൻസ്‌പോർട്ട് ജനറൽ അതോറിറ്റി നേരത്തെ തന്നെ ടാക്സി കമ്പനികൾക്കും സ്ഥാപനങ്ങൾക്കും നിർദേശം നൽകിയിരുന്നു.
ഡ്രൈവിംഗ് ലൈസൻസിന് പുറമെ തങ്ങളുടെ യോഗ്യത തെളിയിക്കുന്ന സാധുവായ ഡ്രൈവർ കാർഡില്ലാത്ത ആർക്കും മെയ് ഒന്ന് മുതൽ ടാക്‌സികളിൽ ജോലി ചെയ്യാൻ അനുവാദമില്ല. ടാക്സി, റെന്റ് എ കാർ, ഓൺലൈൻ ടാക്സി എന്നിവയുടെ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾ ക്രമീകരിക്കുന്ന നിയമാവലിയിലാണ് ഇക്കാര്യം വ്യവസ്ഥ ചെയ്യുന്നത്. ഡ്രൈവിംഗ് ലൈസൻസ് കാലാവധി, മെഡിക്കൽ സർട്ടിഫിക്കറ്റ്, പരിശീലന സർട്ടിഫിക്കറ്റ്, ഡ്രൈവറുടെ ക്രിമിനൽ പശ്ചാതലം തുടങ്ങിയവ പരിശോധിച്ച ശേഷമാണ് ഡ്രൈവർ കാർഡുകൾ അനുവദിക്കുക.
ടാക്സി സേവനങ്ങളുടെ ഗുണനിലവാരം ഉയർത്താനും യാത്രക്കാരുടെ സുരക്ഷ ഉറപ്പാക്കാനും ലക്ഷ്യം വെച്ചുള്ളതാണ് പുതിയ നടപടി. ഇത് വരെ ഡ്രൈവർ കാർഡ് ലഭിച്ചിട്ടില്ലാത്തവർ തങ്ങളുടെ ടാക്സി കമ്പനികളുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട് നടപടികൾ പൂർത്തിയാക്കണം. ചരക്ക് ഗതാഗതം, വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ മേഖലയിലെ ഗതാഗതം, നഗരങ്ങൾക്കുള്ളിലെ ബസ് ഗതാഗതം തുടങ്ങി നിരവധി മേഖലകളിൽ ഈ സംവിധാനം കഴിഞ്ഞ വർഷങ്ങളിൽ നടപ്പാക്കിയിരുന്നു. അതിന്റെ തുടർച്ചയായാണ് ഇപ്പോൾ ടാക്സി മേഖലയിലേക്കും പദ്ധതി വ്യാപിപ്പിച്ചത്.
