‘Jesus…Will Always Come First’: MLB Players Defend Jesus, Share the Gospel, Slam Dodgers’ Honoring of ‘Blasphemous’ Drag Group

With cultural debates over LGBTQ issues, drag queen story hours, and other related skirmishes boiling over, some prominent figures are starting to break their silence and speak out.

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ recent decision to honor the Los Angeles chapter of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a controversial drag group that dresses as nuns and uses religious imagery in its satire, has sparked nationwide headlines.

Following outrage over the initial decision, the Dodgers backed away from the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence—then flip-flopped again and apologized to the drag performers, welcoming them back into the fold. Now, some Major League Baseball players are standing up and speaking out over the ordeal.

Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw is among them; he told The Los Angeles Times he disagreed with the decision to honor the organization during an upcoming Pride Night game on June 16.

And, according to Kershaw, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence debacle expedited the decision to bring back another event: Christian Faith Day.

“I think we were always going to do Christian Faith Day this year, but I think the timing of our announcement was sped up,” Kershaw told the outlet. “Picking a date and doing those different things was part of it as well. Yes, it was in response to the highlighting of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.”

The MLB star said he doesn’t think it’s appropriate to mock other people’s religions and takes issue with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence’s use of religious imagery. Rather than rant or complain, though, he said he responded by showing what he believes in.

“For us, we felt like the best thing to do in response was, instead of maybe making a statement condemning or anything like that, would be just to instead try to show what we do support, as opposed to maybe what we don’t,” Kershaw told the Times. “And that was Jesus. So to make Christian Faith Day our response is what we felt like was the best decision.”

Kershaw was joined by fellow Dodgers pitcher Blake Treinen, who issued a separate statement through worship leader Sean Feucht.

“My friend and @MLB pitcher Blake Treinen asked that I post this statement for him in regards to the @Dodgers honoring of the sisters of perpetual indulgence,” Feucht tweeted, sharing a letter signed by Treinen.

In a screenshot of a written statement, Treinen said he is disappointed the group is being “honored as heroes” and said “many of their performances are blasphemous,” claiming the associated work mocks Catholics and the Christian faith.

‘We’ve Got to Wake Up!’: Former Supermodel Kathy Ireland Delivers Powerful Message Defending Life, Call to Action for Church

Model-turned-entrepreneur Kathy Ireland was recently honored at an influential pro-life gala, but the business mogul told the audience she wasn’t always on the side of life.

“As a young adult, I identified as a pro-choice Christian,” Ireland reportedly said Sept. 23 while accepting an award at Live Action’s Life Awards Gala. “It just shows you the state of our nation. How does that happen?”

But she realized in her 40s — decades after she became a Christian — her views on abortion didn’t comport with Scripture; she realized abortion actually violates God’s truth.

Now, Ireland is calling on believers and churches to speak out and realize the same.

“We’ve got to wake up our churches,” she said. “We’ve got to wake up!”

And she wasn’t done there. The Kathy Ireland Worldwide founder also delivered a powerful message to women who have sought abortions.

“To the women who’ve had abortions — the estimation is one-in-four — just know that nothing is too big for God,” she said. “We bring it to him; we repent. He redeems and restores.”

It’s truly a powerful and transformational message for post-abortive women to ponder.

In a move not commonplace in Hollywood, Ireland has openly discussed her Christian views in recent years. She told Fox News in February about the important role faith plays in her life.

“The most important relationship in my life is with Jesus and though I became a Christian at 18 … I am so grateful that God is so patient and so gracious,” she said. “I love that Scripture tells us, ‘The one who is forgiven much, loves much,’ so I love a whole bunch.”

‘Prayer Is Always the Answer’: Nearly 1M Students Gather Worldwide for ‘See You the Pole’ Event

Students on school campuses around the world are gathering today to pray for their friends, schools, communities, and the unsaved as part of the annual See You At The Pole (SYATP) prayer event.

For the last 33 years, students have gathered at school flagpoles on the fourth Wednesday in September to pray for their friends, teachers, government, and nation.

Today, an estimated one million students in the US and around the globe are expected to participate.

They’ll sing, read Scripture, and—above all—ask God for His blessing on their communities.

“We are praying that students encounter the love and presence of their Father and experience His joy and comfort,” reads a notice posted by the track coach of Nixa High School in Missouri. “We want more people to come to know Jesus and seek after Him with their whole heart. The mindset of the young Jesus is the mindset we want to see within the students of our generation.”

See You At the Pole has led to the creation of Bible clubs, weekly prayer meetings, and other ministries on campuses where students took part in the past.

This year’s theme, “Wholehearted,” comes from Jeremiah 29:13 and encourages students to seek God wholeheartedly.

“Prayer is always the answer because prayer equals change,” reads a statement on their Facebook page. “We pray that Gen Z will be a generation that wholeheartedly seeks after the Lord!”

Doug Clark, National Field Director of SYATP, spoke to CBN News last year and said the student-initiated, student-organized, and student-led event helps young Believers see they play a vital role in the Church.

“Historically, in the times where there have been a moral and spiritual awakening in our country it has almost always been led by young people,” he shared. “We don’t want to lose our vanguard.”

Clark said many students are still feeling the effects of the isolation, depression, and anxiety they experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Our youth are just being devastated by the enemy and it is so important for us to focus on that and pray for them,” Clark said.

“We want to pour into them,” he added. “They are the very best missionaries to reach their high school and junior high campuses, makes it really important to pray for them.”

Hundreds of participants posted photos online.

“You should never feel ashamed of what you believe. Continue to pray. Continue to shine the light. DO NOT BE ASHAMED,” shared one parent on X.

Clark told CBN News he is always encouraged by the students’ enthusiasm and hopes this event will turn into a movement of prayer.

“When students come together and they are looking across the circle they will see people they didn’t know were Christians,” he explained. “What we hope will happen, and what has happened in a lot of cases, is that students see others that are Believers, and from the moment of ‘See You At The Pole’ then they start talking about a movement of prayer on their campus.”
