ഭീകരാക്രമണത്തില്‍ 5 നൈജീരിയന്‍ ക്രൈസ്തവര്‍ കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ടു; അപലപിച്ച് കടുണ അതിരൂപത
കടുണ: നൈജീരിയായിലെ കടുണ സംസ്ഥാനത്തു നടന്ന പുതിയ ഭീകരാക്രമണത്തില്‍ 5 ക്രൈസ്തവര്‍ക്കു ദാരുണാന്ത്യം. ഡംഗാന ജില്ലയിൽ സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന സെന്റ് പീറ്റർ & പോൾ കുർമിൻ ഇടവകയുടെ പരിധിയില്‍ വരുന്ന ക്രൈസ്തവര്‍ക്ക് നേരെയാണ് ആക്രമണമുണ്ടായത്. ആക്രമണത്തില്‍ നിരവധി പേർക്ക് പരിക്കേറ്റു. നിരവധി ആളുകളെ തട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപോയതായും റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ടുണ്ട്. ഭീകരാക്രമണങ്ങളെ നൈജീരിയയിലെ കടുണ കത്തോലിക്ക അതിരൂപത അപലപിച്ചു.
മെയ് 24ന് നൈജീരിയയിലെ കാത്തലിക് സെക്രട്ടേറിയറ്റ് (CSN) ജനറല്‍ സെക്രട്ടറി ആക്രമണ വിവരം സ്ഥിരീകരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. രാത്രി പത്തിനും പുലർച്ചെ ഒന്നിനും ഇടയിലാണ് ഭീകരർ ആക്രമണം നടത്തിയത്. പ്രദേശത്തെ സുരക്ഷ സംഘത്തിന്റെ ശ്രമങ്ങൾക്കിടയിലും അഞ്ച് പേർ കൊല്ലപ്പെടുകയും പത്ത് പേരെ തട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപോകുകയും ചെയ്തു. അതിൽ രണ്ട് പേരെ സുരക്ഷ സംഘത്തിന്റെ ശ്രമഫലമായി രക്ഷപ്പെടുത്തിയെന്നു മെയ് 22ന് പുറത്തുവിട്ട പ്രസ്താവനയില്‍ നൈജീരിയൻ മെട്രോപൊളിറ്റന്റെ ചാൻസലർ ഫാ. ക്രിസ്റ്റ്യൻ ഒകേവു പ്രസ്താവിച്ചു.
ദുർബലരായ ജനങ്ങൾക്ക് സംരക്ഷണം ശക്തിപ്പെടുത്താൻ സർക്കാർ അധികാരികളോടും സുരക്ഷാ ഏജൻസികളോടും അഭ്യർത്ഥിക്കുകയാണെന്നു ചാൻസലർ പ്രസ്താവിച്ചു. തുടർച്ചയായ ആക്രമണങ്ങളെ അതിരൂപത ശക്തമായി അപലപിക്കുകയും പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലെ ജീവനും സ്വത്തുക്കളും സംരക്ഷിക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള ശ്രമങ്ങൾ ശക്തമാക്കാൻ സർക്കാരിനോടും സുരക്ഷാ ഏജൻസികളോടും ആവശ്യപ്പെടുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നതായി ഫാ. ഒകെവു പ്രസ്താവിച്ചു. നൈജീരിയായില്‍ ക്രൈസ്തവര്‍ക്ക് നേരെ അനുദിനം ആക്രമണങ്ങള്‍ അരങ്ങേറുന്നുണ്ട്. ഇതിന്റെ ഒടുവിലത്തെ ഉദാഹരണമാണ് ഈ ആക്രമണം.

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Kogi State chapter, and leaders of the Kaduna Catholic Archdiocese have raised fresh concerns over worsening insecurity following separate attacks that reportedly claimed several lives and led to multiple abductions in Kogi and Kaduna states.
At the same time, an aide to President Bola Tinubu has urged residents of Kwara and Kogi states to temporarily suspend prayer gatherings on mountains and in forested areas because of increasing security threats.
In a statement issued by the Kogi State Secretary of MACBAN, Suleiman Muhammed, the association expressed sadness over the alleged killing of eight of its members in Ankpa Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The victims were identified as Isiaka Lawal, Larai Musa, the wife of Isiaka Lawal, Abdullahi Isiaka, Isah Isiaka, Saleh Isiaka, Samsiya Adamu, Asma’u Siuni, Basullube Musa, and Bello Musa.
The association also disclosed that Husseini Haruna, Abdullahi Abdullahi, and Sa’ida Haruna sustained injuries during the attack.
“We are deeply saddened and outraged by the brutal killing of innocent pastoralist men, women and children in Ankpa Local Government Area of Kogi State.
“We condemn this barbaric act in the strongest terms and call on security agencies to immediately investigate the incident, arrest the perpetrators and ensure that justice is served,” the statement said.
MACBAN warned that continued attacks on pastoral communities could worsen tensions among peaceful residents and called on governments, humanitarian organisations, and relevant authorities to provide relief materials and medical assistance to affected families.
The association urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding while security agencies carried out investigations.
Similarly, leaders of the Kaduna Catholic Archdiocese decried renewed attacks on communities under the pastoral care of Saints Peter and Paul Parish, Kurmin Dangana District, in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
In a statement signed by the Archdiocesan Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Christian Okewu Emmanuel, the church said no fewer than nine persons had been killed and 25 others abducted in separate attacks within the last three months.
According to the statement, the latest attack occurred on Thursday at the Kurmin Bongo outstation, where terrorists reportedly invaded the community between 10:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. during heavy rainfall.
The church said five persons were killed and 10 others abducted despite efforts by vigilante groups to repel the attackers. It added that two abducted victims were later rescued.
The statement further disclosed that earlier attacks occurred at Kasaru-B outstation on March 2 and Sabon Gari outstation on May 1.
“During the Kasaru-B attack, one person was shot dead while another sustained multiple gunshot injuries. Eight persons, including the Mai Wa’azi, were abducted by the terrorists. Although some of the victims later regained freedom, two abductees were killed in captivity,” it stated.
The church said the Sabon Gari attack occurred barely two weeks after the release of victims abducted from Kasaru-B, adding that two persons sustained gunshot injuries while 10 others were abducted. One of the victims was later killed in captivity.
The archdiocese condemned the attacks and urged security agencies to intensify efforts to protect vulnerable rural communities, warning that repeated assaults had displaced residents and created fear and uncertainty in the affected areas.
Amid the worsening security situation, Abiodun Essiet, Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Community Engagement (North Central), appealed to residents and religious groups in Kwara and Kogi states to suspend “Ori Oke” prayer gatherings until the situation improved.
“Ori Oke,” a Yoruba expression meaning “mountain top,” refers to prayer gatherings often held in remote mountainous areas by worshippers seeking spiritual retreats.
“The Office of the SSA to the President on Community Engagement, North-Central, has appealed to residents and religious groups in Kwara and Kogi States to temporarily suspend Ori Oke prayer gatherings until the security situation in the affected areas stabilises.
“The Office noted that God is omnipotent and can be worshipped anywhere, stressing that mountains and forests have increasingly become hideouts for bandits and criminal elements, thereby posing security risks to worshippers and communities,” the statement said.
Kwara and Kogi states have recorded repeated attacks by armed groups in recent months, leading to killings and abductions across several communities.

A new report from Equipping The Persecuted looks at the crisis factors behind the ongoing killings of Christians in Nigeria.
Between January 1 and September 8 of this year, the group verified that at least 4,216 Christians were killed. That comes to nearly 17 people per day, or one every 86 minutes.
Greg Kelley with Unknown Nations says that Fulani militants have become the leading source of violence.
“It’s the largest unreached nomadic people group in the world,” says Kelley. “They are the ones [who] have tremendous influence as a people across Nigeria and these other parts of Africa.”
How should the Body of Christ respond? Kelley says to support local missionaries ready to reach northern Nigeria.
“Nigeria has more Christians in it than any country in the entire continent of Africa. Over 100 million Christians,” he says.
“If you went right in the middle of Nigeria and [divided] it, you would find all of the Christians, for the most part, are in the south. Whereas in the north, where all of these horrific stories of persecution and attacks and kidnappings are taking place in the north, which is almost exclusively Muslim, to the tune of 100 million.”
Kelley recently returned from a trip to visit partners in northern Nigeria. He says there are dozens and dozens of Nigerian believers ready to go to the north with the hope of Christ.
“They just need a motorcycle. They need resources so they can do training. They need our solar-powered audio Bible that we distribute in dozens of Nigerian languages,” says Kelley. “They need resources, but they are willing to go.”
Unknown Nations has been involved in northern Nigeria’s challenges for 25 years. Join them in praying over Muslim people groups like the Fulani, Hausa, and Kanuri.
“I would challenge people to change their vocabulary when they pray,” says Kelley. He says to name specific people groups in our prayers rather than pray for Nigeria in general terms.
Prayer is the first way to partner with Unknown Nations’ network in the spiritual battle. Financial support will also help to press this mission forward.
“Coming alongside the local indigenous work that God is doing among Nigerians is really the answer to this horrible issue,” says Kelley. “We need to be strategic in our prayers and in our mobilization of resources.”

Canada requires most foreign nationals applying for temporary or permanent residence to provide fingerprints and a photograph as part of the immigration application process. The biometric information is used to confirm an applicant’s identity and help assess their application, according to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
The rules apply to several categories of applicants, including those seeking temporary residence, permanent residence and refugee or asylum status. People applying to extend their stay in Canada may also need to provide biometrics unless they are from a visa-exempt country.
For Indian applicants seeking Canadian visas or permits, understanding when biometrics are required can help avoid delays or confusion during the application process.
Who needs to give biometrics for Canada visa?
Applicants for temporary residence generally need to provide fingerprints and a photograph unless they qualify for an exemption. This includes people applying for visitor visas, study permits and work permits.
Permanent residence applicants also generally need to provide biometrics.
IRCC lists several exemptions. Canadian citizens, citizenship applicants and existing permanent residents do not need to provide biometrics. Children under 14 and applicants over 79 are also exempt, although there is no upper-age exemption for asylum claimants.
People visiting Canada who only need an electronic travel authorization, or eTA, are exempt as well.
Other exemptions apply to certain heads of state and government, people holding or qualifying for diplomatic or official visas, and US visa holders transiting through Canada.
Applicants for a visitor visa, study permit or work permit may also be exempt if they have already provided biometrics as part of a permanent residence application that is still being processed.
How much does Canada biometrics cost?
IRCC currently charges CAN$85 for an individual applicant to provide biometrics.
Families applying at the same time can pay a maximum combined fee of CAN$170. The family rate applies to spouses or common-law partners and dependent children, subject to IRCC’s eligibility rules.
Groups of three or more performing artists and their staff applying for work permits at the same time have a maximum combined biometrics fee of CAN$255.
There is no biometrics fee for applicants seeking a transit visa.
What happens after biometrics?
Applicants who are required to provide biometrics must follow IRCC’s instructions on when and where to complete the process. Canada has designated biometrics collection locations where applicants can have their fingerprints and photograph collected.
IRCC says the fingerprints and photograph are used to confirm identity and may also be used in assessing the immigration application.
The biometrics requirement is therefore an important step for Indians and other foreign nationals applying to study, work, visit or settle in Canada. Applicants should check their individual circumstances and exemptions before assuming that a previous biometric submission means they do not need to provide the information again.
