Christian Musicians Worship Leaders Praise Jesus at the White House

Christian music artists gathered at the White House last week for a historic worship session.
Tauren Wells, Jenn Johnson, We Are Messengers and Danny Gokey were among the Christian singers to take part in the ‘Faith Briefing’ meeting.
The Faith Briefing was hosted by the White House to update the Christian leaders on some of the faith-based projects that the Trump administration has initiated, although the US president did not appear to be in attendance.
Wells posted footage of the meeting to his Twitter page where the worship leaders could be heard singing the popular song ‘What a Beautiful Name’ by Hillsong.
In his post, Wells said it was a ‘privilege to declare the name of Jesus in worship and in prayer today at the White House’.
Johnson also shared a clip from the meeting to her Instagram page and in her caption, described how moved she had been by the experience, saying ‘yesterday shook me’.
She said she had come into the meeting with ‘no agenda but to love and pray’ and was ‘overcome to tears’ by a deep conviction to pray more for the president and those in his administration.
An Instagram post by Bethel Music’s director of events, Dominic Shahbon, suggested the meeting was organised by Paula White.
The megachurch pastor is close friends with Trump. She said a prayer at his 2017 inauguration and is chair of his administration’s evangelical advisory board.

Preacher from Early Rain Covenant Church Taken to Police Station

China – On August 2, a preacher from the heavily persecuted Early Rain Covenant Church (ERCC) was taken away by the police from home for allegedly violating COVID protocols.
Two police officers from Longquanyi District’s Da-Mian Police Station came to Preacher Wu Wuqing’s home around 10:30 am on Tuesday. They took him away stating that he refused to take a PCR test. However, his wife said that she did not see any official summon notice.
Around 6 pm on the same day, Preacher Wu sent out a message saying, “Thank you for your prayers. I have just returned home. They summoned me under the guise of violating pandemic [protocols], yet we all know the real reason behind it –
That is due to our faith. May God keep our hearts, so we can persist in what we believe. He is greater than everything!”
Preacher Wu has been facing repeated harassment from the authorities for serving at the Chengdu-based house church. He has been detained, his tires punctured, and the fire door outside of his home chained in the last year alone. The authorities threatened that as long as he serves at ERCC, they will continue to intensify their control and crackdown against him.

Printing Houses’ Fear of Government Crackdown Threatens to Cause Shortage of Bibles in Hong Kong

China – The Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) tight regulations on religious content have led to a shortage of Bibles in Hong Kong.
The Franciscans who run the biblical research institute Studium Biblicum Franciscanum (SBF) in Hong Kong report that printing companies in China are disinterested in printing its Catholic Bible due to the small quantity of copies sold. In addition, printing houses fear that printing Bibles without government approval could lead to trouble with authorities.
Available copies of SBF’s Bible have already been sold to bookstores, thereby adding pressure to quickly find a publishing company. According to a member of SBF, Friar Yeung, Hong Kong printing houses lack the staple binding technology used to make Bibles in mainland China, thereby rendering it more difficult to find a printing company.
This incident comes during the CCP‘s massive crackdown on religions including Christianity. Recently, the government declared that Christians must first register and gain approval by the state to post religious content online. The goal of these kinds of regulations is to control and align religion with the party’s political ideology and goals (a process often referred to as Sinicization).
Despite the troubles between SBF and its printing house, other Christian groups remain unaffected. Revered Liao Jinyuan, the Hong Kong director general of the Protestant group, Worldwide Bible Society, reported that printing houses are still operating in Hong Kong and South Korea.
Please pray that SBF is able to find a printing company willing to publish and distribute Bibles in Hong Kong soon.
