Four Christians have been killed in an Islamic militant attack in Indonesia
Jakarta: Police in Indonesia are hunting suspected militants accused of killing four people said by rights groups to be Christians, beheading one and burning down their homes.
Ten militants linked to a “terrorist” group beheaded one victim and slit the throats of the others on the island of Sulawesi on Friday, national police spokesman Awi Setiyono quoted a witness as saying. Initial reports have linked the militants to extremist group Islamic State.
Indonesia, the world’s biggest Muslim-majority country, has grappled with intermittent militant attacks recently.
“This attack is another serious escalation against the Christian minority in Indonesia,” Human Rights Watch researcher Andreas Harsono said.
Gomar Gultom, the head of the Communion of Churches in Indonesia, said the victims were Christian and urged the authorities to resolve the case.
International Christian Concern, a Washington-based advocacy group, said “an alleged terrorist” killed four Christians in the Sulawesi village, burning down a Salvation Army post and Christian homes.
The perpetrators had asked for food from the victims who were killed when they refused, Awi said. He denied the attacks were religiously motivated.
“We’re on the ground now, there’s about 100 people who will start chasing,” he told the news channel Metro TV.
The investigation, led by the Indonesian police and the military, may run into hurdles as the incident took place in a hilly, remote village near the region of Sigi in Central Sulawesi province, he said.

റാന്നി ഏഴോലി സ്വദേശികളായ കെ എം ചാക്കോ മാര്‍ത്തോമ സഭയില്‍ നിന്ന് വിശ്വാസത്തിലേക്ക് വരികയും ബാംഗ്ലൂര്‍ എസ് എ ബി സി യില്‍ പഠനം നടത്തുകയും ചെയ്തു.
അസംബ്ലീസ് ഓഫ് ഗോഡിലെ ആദ്യകാല സി എ പ്രസിഡന്റും ബഥേല്‍ ബൈബിള്‍ കോളേജ് അധ്യാപകനുമായിരുന്ന പാസ്റ്റര്‍ കെ എം ചാക്കോ 1970 ല്‍ അമേരിക്കയിലേക്ക് കുടിയേറി. ഒക്കലഹോമയിലെ ആരംഭകാല മലയാളി ദൈവദാസന്മാരില്‍ പ്രമുഖനാണ് ഇദ്ദേഹം. സയോണ്‍ പെന്തക്കോസ്ത് സഭയുടെ സ്ഥാപകരിലൊരാളും ദീര്‍ഘകാലം സീനിയര്‍ ശുശ്രൂഷകനുമായിരുന്നു.

Hulda Erdman turned 106 years old this month and, when asked for the secret to her longevity, the centenarian offered a simple yet profound response: “My Lord.”
After telling FKYR-TV she doesn’t know “where those 106 years went,” she credited God and her involvement in her church choir for her long life.
“Well, my dear, there is no secret,” Erdman said. “My Lord has just made me that old. Singing in the choir and all that kind of stuff.”
Next to her faith in the Lord, the most significant part of Erdman’s life has been her affinity for music. She has played piano for years — a skill she learned from watching her brother play, although she doesn’t know how to read music; she plays entirely by ear.
“That’s all in my head,” Erdman said after playing a song on the piano at Baptist Health and Rehab in Bismarck, North Dakota, where she lives. “My arms got tired. They said, ‘Enough is enough, Grandma!’”
Despite some general aches from arthritis, Erdman is very healthy.
