Inspiration 4, a space tourism project about new history
On Sept. 15, 2021, the next batch of space tourists are set to lift off aboard a SpaceX rocket. Organized and funded by entrepreneur Jared Isaacman, the Inspiration4 mission touts itself as “the first all-civilian mission to orbit” and represents a new type of space tourism.
The four crew members will not be the first space tourists this year. In the past few months, the world witnessed billionaires Richard Branson and Jeff Bezos launching themselves and a lucky few others into space on brief suborbital trips. While there are similarities between those launches and Inspiration4 — the mission is being paid for by one billionaire and is using a rocket built by another, Elon Musk — the differences are noteworthy. From my perspective as a space policy expert, the mission’s emphasis on public involvement and the fact that Inspiration4 will send regular people into orbit for three days make it a milestone in space tourism.
Why Inspiration4 is different
The biggest difference between Inspiration4 and the flights performed earlier this year is the destination.
Blue Origin and Virgin Galactic took — and in the future, will take — their passengers on suborbital launches. Their vehicles only go high enough to reach the beginning of space before returning to the ground a few minutes later. SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket and Crew Dragon vehicle, however, are powerful enough to take the Inspiration4 crew all the way into orbit, where they will circle the Earth for three days.
The four-person crew is also quite different from the other launches. Led by Isaacman, the mission features a somewhat diverse group of people. One crew member, Sian Proctor, won a contest among people who use Isaacman’s online payment company. Another unique aspect of the mission is that one of its goals is to raise awareness of and funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. As such, Isaacman selected Hayley Arceneaux, a physician’s assistant at St. Jude and childhood cancer survivor, to participate in the launch. The final member, Christopher Sembroski, won his seat when his friend was chosen in a charity raffle for St. Jude and offered his seat to Sembroski.
Because none of the four participants has any prior formal astronaut training, the flight has been called the first “all civilian” space mission. While the rocket and crew capsule are both fully automated — no one on board will need to control any part of the launch or landing — the four members still needed to go through much more training than the people on the suborbital flights. In less than six months, the crew has undergone hours of simulator training, lessons in flying a jet aircraft and spent time in a centrifuge to prepare them for the G-forces of launch.
Social outreach has also been an important aspect of the mission. While Bezos’ and Branson’s flights brought on criticism of billionaire playboys in space, Inspiration4 has tried — with mixed results — to make space tourism more relatable. The crew recently appeared on the cover of Time magazine and is the subject of an ongoing Netflix documentary.
There have also been other fundraising events for St. Jude, including a 4-mile virtual run and the planned auction of beer hops that will be flown on the mission.
The future of space tourism?
Sending a crew of amateur astronauts into orbit is a significant step in the development of space tourism. However, despite the more inclusive feel of the mission, there are still serious barriers to overcome before average people can go to space.
For one, the cost remains quite high. Though three of the four are not rich, Isaacman is a billionaire and paid an estimated $200 million to fund the trip. The need to train for a mission like this also means that prospective passengers must be able to devote significant amounts of time to prepare — time that many ordinary people don’t have.
Finally, space remains a dangerous place, and there will never be a way to fully remove the danger of launching people — whether untrained civilians or seasoned professional astronauts — into space.
Despite these limitations, orbital space tourism is coming. For SpaceX, Inspiration4 is an important proof of concept that they hope will further demonstrate the safety and reliability of their autonomous rocket and capsule systems. Indeed, SpaceX has several tourist missions planned in the next few months, even though the company isn’t focused on space tourism. Some will even include stops at the International Space Station.
Even as space remains out of reach for most on Earth, Inspiration4 is an example of how billionaire space barons’ efforts to include more people on their journeys can give an otherwise exclusive activity a wider public appeal.

ടോള്‍ ബൂത്ത് എത്തുന്നതിന് 60 മിനിറ്റ് മുമ്ബ് ഫാസ്റ്റ് ടാഗ് ബ്ലാക്ക് ലിസ്റ്റ് ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുണ്ടെങ്കില്‍ അവസാന നിമിഷം റീച്ചാര്‍ജ് ചെയ്യാന്‍ സാധിക്കില്ല.
ഫാസ്റ്റ് ടാഗ് സ്‌കാന്‍ ചെയ്ത് 10 മിനിറ്റിന് ശേഷമാണ് ബ്ലാക്ക് ലിസ്റ്റ് ചെയ്യപ്പെടുന്നതെങ്കിലും ഇടപാട് റദ്ദാക്കപ്പെടും.
ടോള്‍പ്ലാസ കടന്ന് 10 മിനിറ്റിന് ശേഷം റീച്ചാര്‍ജ് ചെയ്താല്‍ ഈടാക്കിയ പിഴ ഒഴിവാക്കാവുന്നതാണ്.
നിയമം ലംഘിക്കുന്ന വാഹന ഉടമകളില്‍ നിന്ന് സാധാരണ ടോള്‍ നിരക്കിന്റെ ഇരട്ടിയെന്ന നിലയിലാകും പിഴ ഈടാക്കുക.

New FASTag rules, imposing extra penalties on users with low balance, delayed payments or blacklisted tags, will come into force from Monday.
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways have issued some key changes to the FASTag ecosystem, aiming to streamline toll payments, reduce disputes and curb frauds.
Starting February 17, new FASTag rules will affect users who delay payments or have blacklisted tags.
If a FASTag has been inactive for more than 60 minutes before the vehicle crosses the toll and remains inactive up to 10 minutes after passing, the transaction will be declined.
The system will reject such payments with “error code 176”. This rule is set to be implemented from February 17.
Apart from this, there are also changes in terms of the Chargeback process and cooling period as well as transaction rejection rules to streamline toll payments and reduce disputes.

Starting February 17, new FASTag rules will affect users who delay payments or have blacklisted tags.New Delhi:
According to new guidelines, FASTag users may incur additional charges if their toll transactions are processed beyond 15 minutes from the time the vehicle passes the toll reader.
According to updated National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) guidelines, if a transaction is delayed and the user’s FASTag account has insufficient balance, the toll operator will be held responsible.
However, if the amount is deducted, users can dispute the charge, but only after a mandatory 15-day cooling period.
Users can ensure sufficient balance in the FASTag wallet before travelling, monitor transaction times to check for delays in deduction, and stay informed about FASTag status to prevent rejections due to inactivity.
As per the NPCI circular published on January 28, the FASTag balance validation will follow a stricter schedule.
Previously, users could recharge their FASTag at the toll booth and still pass through. Because of this, users must verify their FASTag status well in advance.
According to latest NPCI data, FASTag transactions grew by 6 per cent in December last year to 382 million, against 359 million in November.
The value also increased by 9 per cent to Rs 6,642 crore in December against Rs 6,070 crore in November.

പാസ്പോർട്ട് ഉടമകൾക്ക് യുഎഇ സന്ദർശിക്കാൻ മുൻകൂട്ടി വീസയുടെ ആവശ്യമില്ല. ദുബായ് രാജ്യാന്തര വിമാനത്താവളത്തിൽ വിമാനം ഇറങ്ങിയ ശേഷം ഇമിഗ്രേഷൻ വിഭാഗത്തിൽ പാസ്പോർട്ട് സ്റ്റാംപ് ചെയ്യപ്പെടും. ഇത് 30 ദിവസത്തേയ്ക്ക് സൗജന്യമായി സന്ദർശനാനുമതി നൽകുന്നു.

The UAE’s expanded visa-on-arrival programme for Indian nationals with effect from February 13 has extended the facility to Indian nationals residing in more countries.
The facility will be applicable to those with valid visas, residence permits or Green Cards from six new countries.
Which are the countries?
Accordingly, Indian citizens holding ordinary passports and valid visas, residence permits, or Green Cards from Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand and Canada, will be granted visas upon arrival at all UAE entry points. These are in addition to the previously eligible nations, namely the US, European Union, UK.
Who is eligible?
Individuals from eligible countries will receive the visa on arrival in the UAE, provided their passport is valid for at least six months and they fulfill the applicable visa fees as per UAE regulations.
What is the fee?
The entry visa fee for a 14-day stay is Dh100, with an option to extend for an additional 14 days at a cost of Dh250. Additionally, a 60-day visa is available for Dh250.
Why this initiative?
Major General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, Director General of the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP), has emphasised that granting visa on arrival to Indian nationals holding visas from some countries aligns with the long-term strategic partnership between the UAE and India.
The initiative aims to facilitate smoother travel for Indian citizens, offering them and their families new opportunities to explore life, residency, and employment prospects in the UAE.
Additionally, it provides an opportunity to experience the country’s world-class tourism, economic landscape, and dynamic business environment, while also attracting top global talent and entrepreneurs—further solidifying the UAE’s status as a global financial, tourism, and economic hub, the ICP noted.
India has also signed visa exemption agreements with several countries for holders of diplomatic and official passports, including the UAE, where such passport holders are exempt from visa requirements for stays of up to 90 days.
