Thailand — More than 60 Montagnard Christian refugees from Vietnam — including men, women, children, and pregnant women — were arrested on Feb. 23 in Bangkok, Thailand.

Reports have emerged that the Montagnard believers were involved in a memorial service that included prayer and worship and allegedly caused a disturbance.

Footage has emerged on social media from some of those detained describing their situation. International Christian Concern (ICC) workers said those detained faced a judge in the last few days, and most of them chose to stay in jail because they were unable to pay the fines or bail money imposed by Thai officials.

This incident illustrates the tenuous and risky situation of Vietnamese Christian refugees in Thailand seeking asylum face daily. There are more than 4,000 Vietnamese refugees in Thailand, most of them having fled Vietnam because of persecution and harassment for their Christian or political beliefs. Most of these Christian refugees wait several years for refugee status and asylum in a safer country as they flee religious persecution in Vietnam.

ഫെബ്രുവരി 6-നാണ് അദ്ദേഹത്തെ തട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപോയത്. ഇവരില്‍ നിന്ന് വൈദികന്‍ യഥാർത്ഥത്തിൽ രക്ഷപ്പെടുകയായിരിന്നുവെന്നും അബൂജയിലെ ഒരു അജ്ഞാത പ്രദേശത്ത് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് വൈദ്യ പരിചരണം നൽകുകയാണെന്നും ഫാ. ജോസഫ് ഓസ്കാർ പാം പറഞ്ഞു. അതേസമയം നൈജീരിയയില്‍ നിന്ന്‍ മറ്റ് രണ്ട് കത്തോലിക്ക വൈദികരെ കൂടി തട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപോയി. യോല കത്തോലിക്കാ രൂപതാംഗമായ ഫാ. മാത്യു ഡേവിഡ് ദത്സെമി, ജലിങ്കോ രൂപതാംഗമായ ഫാ. എബ്രഹാം സൗമ്മം എന്നിവരെ ഫെബ്രുവരി 22 ന് തട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപോകുകയായിരിന്നുവെന്ന് സഭാനേതൃത്വം അറിയിച്ചു.

ക്രൈസ്തവർ ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതൽ തട്ടിക്കൊണ്ട് പോകലിനും, നിർബന്ധിത വിവാഹത്തിനും, ലൈംഗിക അതിക്രമത്തിനും ഇരയാക്കപ്പെടുന്ന രാജ്യമാണ് ഇന്ന്‍ നൈജീരിയ. ഇസ്ലാമിക തീവ്രവാദ സംഘടനകളായ ബോക്കോ ഹറാം, ഫുലാനികൾ, ഇസ്ലാമിക് സ്റ്റേറ്റ് വെസ്റ്റ് ആഫ്രിക്ക പ്രൊവിൻസ് എന്നിവയിൽനിന്നാണ് കൂടുതലായി ക്രൈസ്തവർ ഭീഷണി നേരിടുന്നത്. അതേസമയം കത്തോലിക്ക വൈദികരെ തട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപോകുന്നത് രാജ്യത്തു പതിവ് സംഭവമായി മാറിയിരിക്കുകയാണ്. മോചനദ്രവ്യം ലക്ഷ്യംവെച്ചാണ് തട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടു പോകല്‍ നടക്കുന്നത്. അടുത്ത കാലത്ത് നിരവധി നൈജീരിയന്‍ വൈദികര്‍ ബന്ദികളായിരിക്കെ കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്.

Two Catholic Church priests were on Saturday kidnapped in Adamawa State.

The Commissioner of Police in Adamawa, CP Dankombo Morris has condemned the kidnapping of Reverend Father Mathew David Dusami of Yola Catholic Diocese and Reverend Father Abraham Samman of Jalingo Diocese.

The command Spokesman, SP Suleiman Nguroje, in a statement in Yola on Saturday, quoted the CP as saying the victims were kidnapped at the early hours of Feb. 22.

“The unfortunate incident occurred at the priest’s residence situated at Gwaida Malam, in Numan local government of Adamawa State.

“The kidnappers, armed with offensive weapons, arrived at the victim’s house around 4:00 a.m and whisked them away.

“The CP in concerted effort to rescue the victims, has deployed the command’s operational and manpower assets to give a hot chase to the kidnappers, rescue the victims unhurt, apprehend the perpetrators and their collaborators if any,” he said.

According to him, the progressive efforts of the command will definitely bring the perpetrators and other persons involved to face the full wrath of the law.

He emphasised command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and resisting all forms of violence crimes in the state .

“This unprovoked kidnapping of religious leaders is totally unacceptable as they are not only stakeholders but also people who are actively working to promote peace in the society.

“The command, while appealing for calm, therefore, seeks the support and cooperation of the general public to give useful and timely information that will aid its quest to rescue the victims and apprehend the criminals,” he stated.
