Muslim woman kills Christian couple by poisoning food after taking her daughter to church
Kenya — A Muslim woman in eastern Uganda killed a Christian couple and accidentally took her own daughter’s life in the process.
Doreen Nairuba, a Christian woman, died on March 16 from eating poisoned food prepared by her Muslim neighbor, Hanifa Hamiyat, in Nabiganda town, Butaleja District, an area neighbor said. Nairuba was also six months pregnant.
Hamiyat’s 18-year-old daughter, Marriam Kapisa, died the same day after unknowingly eating the food prepared by her mother for Nairuba and her husband, Jackson Wampula, who died from the poisoning the next day on March 17, residents said.
Nairuba had been sharing her Christian faith with the 18-year-old girl who had finished high school exams and was awaiting results to determine if she would be accepted into college. Hamiyat was angry that the couple had invited her daughter to a church service on March 17, an area source said.
A Muslim neighbor who had seen the Christian couple leaving for church with Kapisa and returning with her that afternoon informed Hamiyat, who asked the man to find out from her daughter where she had been, the area source said.
At about 5:30 p.m. local time, the neighbor intercepted Kapisa, and she told him she had attended the church service. He and Kapisa returned to her home and told her mother.
“The mother was very angry with the girl, but since it was Ramadan she did not want to cause a lot of alarm, hence she kept quiet,” said the area source, who had made a brief visit to the family that day.
During Ramadan it is common for area Muslims to share food with other families in the evening to break the daily fast, and at 7 p.m. Hamiyat prepared a poisoned meal and sent Kapisa to share it with the Christian couple, the source said.
“The daughter didn’t know that her mother had put some poison in the food,” he said. “When the daughter reached Doreen’s home, the three participated in sharing of the food, and immediately [afterward], she left.”
At home, Kapisa complained of stomach pain and was soon vomiting and wailing, the source said.
“The mother asked what could be the problem, and why she was delayed in returning home after delivering the food? The girl answered that she shared in eating the food with Doreen’s family, and she was in deep pain. Upon hearing that, Hamiyat shouted in a loud voice, “Allah Karim [Generous Allah], I have killed myself,” said the source, who visited the family upon hearing their distress.
Kapisa was rushed to a nearby hospital where she died, he said.
After about an hour, Nairuba and her husband started suffering stomach pain and diarrhea and made an emergency call to another neighbor.
“When I arrived at the house the two were in bad state, and I took them to a nearby clinic where they were given first aid before they were referred to the main hospital,” said the neighbor, whose name is also being withheld for security reasons.
Nairuba died before reaching the hospital, and Wampula died the next day at the hospital, the neighbor said.
In tests carried out on samples of remaining food, doctors found it contained a poisonous drug that caused the deaths of the couple and Kapisa, said the neighbor.
Local leaders detained and questioned Hamiyat, and she confessed to having poisoned the food, the neighbor said.
“I never intended to kill my daughter, but my plan was to kill the neighbors because of taking my daughter to church during this holy month of Ramadan,” she said, according to the source. “Our imam had assured us that when you kill a kafir [infidel], Allah rewards one with a Jannah [paradise] called Firdausi, so I wanted to get that Jannah.”
Hamiyat was in police custody at the time of this writing, with a hearing scheduled for April 2.
Evangelists seriously wounded
In Iganga town, Iganga District, also in eastern Uganda, two Christians were in critical condition after hardline Muslims beat and stabbed them during an open-air evangelistic effort, one of the evangelists said.
Ephraim Idube, 32, and Tefiiro Mwanani, 40, left Buseesa town to preach the Gospel to Muslims in Iganga on March 14. After setting up small portable speakers, they proclaimed the Gospel, saying Christ is the Son of God, that He alone will lead people to Heaven and that the Islamic prophet Muhammad was merely a prophet “from nowhere,” said Mwanani.
“Muslims came in a big number and started shouting while asking us why we were making noise and deeming their prophet to a lower position in their holy month of Ramadan,” Mwanani told Morning Star News.
Before they could reply, one of the Muslims grabbed their portable speaker, plucked out wiring and hit it with a hammer while others beat them, he said.
“One identified as Bruhan Isabirye went and picked up a panga [long Somali sword] in a nearby butcher shop and started cutting us,” Mwanani said. “Many people, including Christians, came to rescue us, picked the panga from his hand. Though it was a bit late, we had bled too much, but we thank God that immediate help came and we were rushed to the hospital.”
Having sustained deep wounds, they were in critical condition at Iganga Hospital, said a Morning Star News contact who visited them.
The attacks were the latest of many instances of persecution of Christians in Uganda that Morning Star News has documented.
Uganda’s constitution and other laws provide for religious freedom, including the right to propagate one’s faith and convert from one faith to another. Muslims make up no more than 12% of Uganda’s population, with high concentrations in eastern areas of the country.

ഇസ്ലാം മാത്രമാണ് സത്യ മതമെന്നും, അല്ലാഹുവിനെ ദൈവമായും, മുഹമ്മദിനെ അവന്റെ സന്ദേശവാഹകനായും സ്വീകരിക്കാത്തവര് നരകത്തിന് വിധിക്കപ്പെട്ടവരാണെന്നും വിശ്വസിച്ചിരുന്ന കടുത്ത ഇസ്ലാമികവാദിയായ സൗദി സ്വദേശി ക്രിസ്തുവിനെ രക്ഷകനായി സ്വീകരിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് നല്കിയ സാക്ഷ്യം വാര്ത്തകളില് ഇടം നേടുന്നു. വര്ഷങ്ങള്ക്ക് മുന്പെ തന്നെ യേശുവിനെ രക്ഷകനും നാഥനുമായി സ്വീകരിച്ച അല് ഫാദി എന്ന വ്യക്തിയുടെ സാക്ഷ്യമാണ് ഇപ്പോള് ചര്ച്ചയായി മാറുന്നത്. യേശു ക്രിസ്തു ദൈവപുത്രനല്ലെന്നും അല്ലാഹു അയച്ച ഒരു പ്രവാചകന് മാത്രമാണെന്നും, ക്രിസ്തു കുരിശുമരണം വരിക്കുകയോ, ഉത്ഥാനം ചെയ്യുകയോ, സ്വര്ഗ്ഗാരോഹണം ചെയ്യുകയോ ചെയ്തിട്ടില്ലെന്നുമായിരുന്നു താന് വിചാരിച്ചിരുന്നതെന്നു ഇദ്ദേഹം പറയുന്നു. യഹൂദരോടും, ക്രൈസ്തവരോടും തനിക്ക് അങ്ങേയറ്റം വെറുപ്പായിരുന്നുവെന്നും അദ്ദേഹം കൂട്ടിച്ചേര്ത്തു.
തന്റെ പന്ത്രണ്ടാമത്തെ വയസ്സില് തന്നെ ഖുറാന്റെ പകുതിയോളം മനപാഠമാക്കിയ വ്യക്തിയാണ് അല് ഫാദി. പതിനഞ്ചാമത്തെ വയസ്സില് മറ്റ് യുവാക്കള് ചെയ്യുന്നത് പോലെ അല്ലാഹുവിനു വേണ്ടി മരിക്കുവാനായി സോവിയറ്റ് യൂണിയനെതിരെ ഒസാമ ബിന് ലാദനൊപ്പം ജിഹാദ് ചെയ്യുവാന് തീരുമാനിച്ചു. അമ്മ തടഞ്ഞില്ലായിരുന്നെങ്കില് താന് ജിഹാദി ആകുമായിരുന്നുവെന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം സമ്മതിക്കുന്നു. എന്നാല് ഖുറാനുമായി ഏറെ അടുത്ത് ഇടപഴകി കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോള് അതിലെ ചില വിദ്വേഷപരമായ സന്ദേശങ്ങള് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ശ്രദ്ധയില്പ്പെടുകയായിരിന്നു. ”തന്നെ സ്വീകരിച്ചില്ല എന്ന കാരണത്താല് എങ്ങനെ ദൈവത്തിന് തന്റെ സ്വന്തം സൃഷ്ടിയെ വെറുക്കുവാന് കഴിയും?” എന്ന ചോദ്യം അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ മനസില് ഉയര്ന്നതോടെയാണ് മനപരിവര്ത്തനത്തിന്റെ ആദ്യഘട്ടത്തിലേക്ക് പ്രവേശിക്കുന്നത്.
എന്നാല് അത്തരം ചിന്തകള് മറ്റുള്ളവരുമായി പങ്കുവെക്കുന്നത് ജീവന് തന്നെ നഷ്ടപ്പെടുന്നതിനു കാരണമാകുമെന്നു അവനു അറിയാമായിരിന്നു. സൗദി അറേബ്യയില് കോളേജ് വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം പൂര്ത്തിയാക്കിയ ശേഷം 1989-ല് എഞ്ചിനീയറിംഗ് പഠിക്കുവാന് അദ്ദേഹം അമേരിക്കയിലെത്തി. എന്നാല് മറ്റൊരു പ്രശ്നം അദ്ദേഹത്തെ കാത്തിരിക്കുന്നുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ക്രൈസ്തവരുമായി കൂട്ടുകൂടരുതെന്നാണ് ഇസ്ലാം പറയുന്നത്. അമേരിക്കയാകട്ടെ ക്രിസ്ത്യന് രാഷ്ട്രവും. അമേരിക്കന് സംസ്കാരവുമായി കൂടുതല് ഇടപഴകുക എന്ന ലക്ഷ്യത്തോടെ അദ്ദേഹം ‘ഇന്റര്നാഷണല് ഫ്രണ്ട്ഷിപ്പ് പ്രോഗ്രാമില് ചേര്ന്നു.
അതൊരു ക്രിസ്ത്യന് മിനിസ്ട്രിയാണ് എന്നറിയാതെയാണ് താന് അതില് ഒപ്പുവെച്ചതെന്നു അദ്ദേഹം പറയുന്നു. രണ്ടാഴ്ചകള്ക്ക് ശേഷം അദ്ദേഹത്തെ സഹായിക്കുവാന് നിയുക്തരായ യുവദമ്പതികളുമായി പരിചയത്തിലായി. തുടര്ന്നു അല് ഫാദി പറയുന്നതു ഇങ്ങനെ- “അടുത്ത 7 മാസത്തോളം ആ കുടുംബം തനിക്ക് നല്കിയ സ്നേഹം എന്റെ പ്രതീക്ഷകള്ക്കും അപ്പുറമായിരുന്നു. അത്തരമൊരനുഭവം എനിക്ക് മുസ്ലീങ്ങളില് നിന്നും ലഭിച്ചിട്ടില്ല. നവംബര് മാസത്തില് അവരുടെ വീട്ടില് ഒരു അത്താഴം കഴിക്കുവാന് പോയപ്പോള് മാത്രമാണ് അദ്ദേഹത്തിനു അതൊരു ക്രിസ്ത്യന് കുടുംബമാണെന്ന കാര്യം മനസ്സിലായത്. അവര് ഒരിക്കലും എന്നോടു സുവിശേഷം പങ്കുവെച്ചിട്ടില്ല, എന്നാല് സുവിശേഷം എങ്ങനെയാണെന്ന് അവര് എനിക്ക് കാണിച്ചു തന്നു. എന്റെ മതത്തേക്കുറിച്ചും വിശ്വാസത്തേക്കുറിച്ചുമുള്ള സംശയ നിറഞ്ഞ മനസ്സോടെയാണ് ഞാന് ആ വീട്ടില് നിന്നും തിരികെ മടങ്ങിയത്”.
പിന്നീട് ക്രൈസ്തവ വിശ്വാസത്തേക്കുറിച്ച് കൂടുതല് പഠിക്കുവാന് അദ്ദേഹം തീരുമാനമെടുത്തു. ഇതിനിടെ തന്റെ മാസ്റ്റേഴ്സ് ഡിഗ്രി പൂര്ത്തിയായ ശേഷം ഒരു കമ്പനിയില് അല് ഫാദി ജോലിക്ക് കയറി. അവിടെവെച്ചാണ് മറ്റൊരു ക്രൈസ്തവ വിശ്വാസിയെ അദ്ദേഹം കണ്ടുമുട്ടുന്നത്. ക്രിസ്തുമസ്സിന് അവരുടെ വീട്ടില് അത്താഴം കഴിക്കുവാന് പോയപ്പോള് നേരത്തെ കണ്ട ക്രൈസ്തവ കുടുംബത്തിന്റെ അതേ നന്മയും സ്നേഹവും ഈ വീട്ടിലും കാണുവാന് കഴിഞ്ഞുവെന്ന് അല് ഫാദി പറയുന്നു. ക്രമേണ ക്രൈസ്തവ വിശ്വാസത്തിലുള്ള അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ താല്പ്പര്യം വര്ദ്ധിച്ചു. അങ്ങനെ 2001-ലാണ് ഇസ്ലാം പഠിപ്പിച്ചതിന് വിരുദ്ധമായി മുന്നോട്ടുപോകുവാന് അദ്ദേഹം തീരുമാനമെടുക്കുന്നത്.
“അടുത്ത 6 മാസങ്ങള്ക്കുള്ളില് ക്രിസ്തു ആരാണെന്ന് എനിക്ക് മനസ്സിലായി. 2001-നവംബറില് യാതൊരു സംശയവും കൂടാതെ ഞാന് ക്രിസ്തുവിനെ രക്ഷകനായി സ്വീകരിച്ചു. കുറച്ച് മാസങ്ങള്ക്കുള്ളില് ഭാര്യ ബന്ധം വേര്പ്പെടുത്തി, ജോലി നഷ്ട്ടമായി. സാത്താന് എന്റെ വിശ്വാസം തകര്ക്കുവാന് എന്നില് പ്രവര്ത്തിച്ചു കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുകയാണെന്ന് എനിക്ക് മനസ്സിലായി. എന്നാല് ക്രിസ്തുവുമായുള്ള എന്റെ വ്യക്തിപരമായ ബന്ധം വളരുകയായിരുന്നു” – ക്രിസ്തുവിനെ രക്ഷകനും നാഥനുമായി ഏറ്റുപറഞ്ഞ അദ്ദേഹം ഇന്നു പഴയ മനുഷ്യനേ അല്ല. 2010-ല് അദ്ദേഹം തന്നെ സ്ഥാപിച്ച ‘സിറ ഇന്റര്നാഷണല്’ എന്ന ഗ്ലോബല് മിനിസ്ട്രിയുടെ നേതാവാണ്.
ഇസ്ലാം മതസ്ഥരെ ക്രിസ്തുവുമായി അടുപ്പിക്കുകയാണ് മിനിസ്ട്രിയുടെ ലക്ഷ്യം. ലളിതമായ സ്നേഹ പ്രവര്ത്തികളിലൂടെയാണ് താന് യേശുവിനെ മനസ്സിലാക്കിയതെന്നും മറ്റുള്ളവരെ ദൈവത്തോടു അടുപ്പിക്കുവാനും അവിടുന്നില് വിശ്വാസം ഉണ്ടാക്കുവാനും ലളിതമായ തന്റെ സ്നേഹപ്രവര്ത്തികള് ദൈവം ഉപയോഗിക്കട്ടെയെന്നും അല് ഫാദി പറയുന്നു. അല് ഫാദി യുടെ ജീവിതസാക്ഷ്യം അനുഭവിച്ചറിഞ്ഞ അനേകം പേര് യേശുവിനെ രക്ഷകനും നാഥനുമായി സ്വീകരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.

Saudi Arabia will allow non-Saudis to buy real estate in specific areas beginning January 2026, following the approval of a new law by the Saudi Cabinet, as per a report by Gulf News. The move is part of the Kingdom’s wider efforts to attract foreign investment and expand its non-oil economy.
Majed Al Hogail, Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing and Chairman of the Real Estate General Authority, welcomed the development. “The updated law aims to increase real estate supply, attract global investors and developers, and further stimulate foreign direct investment in the Saudi market,” he said, according to the report by Gulf News. Al Hogail added that the law is part of a broader real estate reform strategy and includes controls to protect Saudi citizens.
Under the law, non-Saudis will be permitted to purchase property in designated zones, including Riyadh and Jeddah. Ownership in Mecca and Medina will be subject to additional regulatory conditions due to their religious status. The Real Estate General Authority will identify which geographic areas are open to foreign ownership and release detailed executive regulations. These rules, expected within 180 days of the law’s publication in the official gazette, will be opened to public consultation via the “Istitlaa” platform.
The executive regulations will include the application process, eligibility criteria for buyers, and enforcement mechanisms to ensure compliance. The policy change is aligned with other residency and investment frameworks, including the Premium Residency Law and existing property ownership rules for GCC nationals.
The decision reflects Saudi Arabia’s long-term economic diversification plans under Vision 2030. By opening its property market to foreigners, the Kingdom aims to encourage international developers and investors to participate in its growing real estate sector, while also managing social and regulatory expectations.
