അബൂജ: കഴിഞ്ഞ പത്തു വര്‍ഷത്തിനിടെ തെക്കുകിഴക്കൻ നൈജീരിയയിൽ 20,300-ലധികം ക്രൈസ്തവര്‍ കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ടതായി റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ട്. ഇന്റർനാഷ്ണൽ സൊസൈറ്റി ഫോർ സിവിൽ ലിബർട്ടി ആൻഡ് റൂൾ ഓഫ് ലോ ഇന്റർ സൊസൈറ്റി പുറത്തുവിട്ട റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ടിലാണ് ഞെട്ടിക്കുന്ന വിവരമുള്ളത്. നൈജീരിയയുടെ അബിയ, അനമ്പ്ര, എബോണി, എനുഗു, ഇമോ സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങള്‍ ഉള്‍പ്പെടുന്ന തെക്കുകിഴക്കൻ മേഖലയില്‍ നിന്നു മാത്രമുള്ള കണക്കാണിത്. ഫുലാനി ഹെർഡ്‌സ്മാൻ, നൈജർ ഡെൽറ്റ ജിഹാദിസ്റ്റ് തീവ്രവാദികൾ, ഫുലാനി കൊള്ളക്കാർ, മേഖലയിൽ വിന്യസിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന നൈജീരിയൻ സൈന്യം എന്നിവയുൾപ്പെടുന്ന സംഘങ്ങളാണ് കൊലപാതകങ്ങൾ നടത്തിയത്.
മുഹമ്മദ് ബുഹാരിയുടെ ഭരണകാലത്ത് നൈജീരിയയില്‍ പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് തെക്ക് – കിഴക്കൻ മേഖലയിലേക്ക് നുഴഞ്ഞുകയറിയ തീവ്ര ഇസ്ളാമിക ഗ്രൂപ്പുകൾ 2015 ജൂൺ മുതൽ ഏകദേശം 9,800 മരണങ്ങൾക്ക് ഉത്തരവാദികളാണെന്ന് ഇന്റർ സൊസൈറ്റി ബോർഡ് ചെയർമാന്‍ എമേക ഉമേഗ്ബലാസി ഒപ്പിട്ട റിപ്പോർട്ടിൽ പറയുന്നു. നൈജീരിയൻ സായുധ സേനയിലെ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥരും മറ്റും ചേർന്ന് ഏകദേശം 10,500 നിരായുധരായ പൗരന്മാരെ കൊലപ്പെടുത്തി. പൗരന്മാരുടെ മതവും വംശവും നോക്കിയാണ് കൊലപാതകം നടത്തിയതെന്നും റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ടില്‍ ആരോപിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.
കൊലപാതകങ്ങൾക്ക് പുറമേ, തെക്കുകിഴക്കൻ നൈജീരിയന്‍ ജനതയെ അവരുടെ വംശത്തിന്റെയും മതത്തിന്റെയും പേരിൽ ദുരാരോപണങ്ങള്‍ നിരത്തി കുറ്റവാളികളാക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ടെന്നും റിപ്പോർട്ടില്‍ പറയുന്നു. അനമ്പ്ര സംസ്ഥാനത്തെ നാല്‍പ്പതിലധികം പരമ്പരാഗത ക്രൈസ്തവരെ മൂന്ന് മാസത്തിലേറെയായി നിയമവിരുദ്ധ തടങ്കൽ കേന്ദ്രത്തിൽ കസ്റ്റഡിയിലെടുത്തിട്ടുണ്ട്. ക്രൈസ്തവര്‍ വിശ്വാസത്തിന്റെ പേരില്‍ നേരിടുന്ന വിവിധങ്ങളായ വിവേചനങ്ങളും ചൂണ്ടിക്കാട്ടിയാണ് റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ട്. അതേസമയം കടുന, ജിഗാവ, കാനോ, കറ്റ്‌സിന, കെബി, സോകോടോ, സാംഫറ തുടങ്ങീയ വടക്ക് തെക്ക് മേഖലയില്‍ കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ട ക്രൈസ്തവരുടെ എണ്ണവും കണക്കിലെടുക്കുമ്പോള്‍ നൈജീരിയയില്‍ ഒരു പതിറ്റാണ്ടിനിടെ കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ട ക്രൈസ്തവരുടെ മരണസംഖ്യ വളരെ വലുതായിരിക്കുമെന്നാണ് സൂചന.
കടപ്പാട് :പ്രവാചക ശബ്ദം
A new report says over 20,300 Christians have been massacred in South East Nigeria since 2015.
According to the Catholic-inspired NGO International Society for Civil Liberty and the Rule of Law Intersociety, the killings were carried out by a plethora of jihadist organizations, including the Jihadist Fulani herdsmen, the Niger Delta jihadist militants, and the Jihadist Fulani bandits, the Fulani Muslim vigilantes as well as the Nigerian military deployed to the region.
The report, signed by Intersociety Board Chair Emeka Umeagbalasi, states that jihadist groups which infiltrated Nigeria—particularly the South-East—during the administration of Muhammadu Buhari, have been responsible for approximately 9,800 jihad-related deaths since June 2015.
Additionally, approximately 10,500 unarmed citizens were killed by officers and personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces, allegedly targeted based on their ethnicity and religion, according to the report.
Besides the killings, “members of the South-East civilian population have been singled out for false labeling, mass criminalization and trump-up charges on the grounds of their ethnicity and religion,” the report states.
The Intersociety report also claims that over 40 traditional worshippers in Anambra State have been held under custody for over three months in an illegal detention facility, far exceeding the 60-day period of detention prescribed by law. Worse, no valid case has been brought against them, and therefore the government has lost the legal and moral grounds “to continue to detain without investigation, the 40 traditional worshippers held in an illegal detention facility (State Militias’ Lion House at Awka) for more than 60 days.”
Governors blamed
As the killing of Christians in Igbo land get even worse, Intersociety has in its report accused the governors of the four eastern states of Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi and Imo of a complicit silence – a “silence of the graveyard.”
The four governors have been widely accused of collaborating with the Nigerian government and external entities to compromise the current and future security of their states, citizens, and properties. This alleged conspiracy is marked by their “graveyard silence” or inaction in response to the escalating and unchecked attacks by jihadist Fulani herdsmen across various communities in their states.
These attacks, which have intensified since 2015/16 and saw a significant surge from 2020/21, have reportedly saturated many of the 78 Local Government Areas in their states. The regions are believed to be under threat or experiencing both covert and overt assaults, primarily targeting defenseless Trado-Judeo-Christian populations in the hinterlands.
They have also faced accusations of carrying out severe attacks and suppressing the fundamental human rights of citizens to practice African Traditional Medicines, which are considered the precursors to modern medicine, as well as African Traditional Religions, regarded as the ancestral roots of Christianity in Igbo Land.
“The totality of the above has endangered lives and properties and threatened their defenseless peoples’ fundamental human rights to ethnic and religious identities, including rights to be born, develop and live in a secured and protected environment,” the report states.
“It must also be pointed out that many jihadist activities of Jihadist Fulani Herdsmen and allied others in Igbo Land States of Anambra, Enugu, Imo and Ebonyi under their gubernatorial watch are either rarely reported or covered and suppressed or censored under the watch,” it continues.
“Several reports also abound exposing indiscriminate third-party land purchases for the Jihadists across the South-East by delegated persons or State/Federal Government remotely linked middle persons, including top Government officials or appointees or others close to their governments,” the report says.
Intersociety notes that the indictment of the four governors also extends to both past and current Homeland Security Commissioners, Special Advisers on Security, and officials responsible for Community Security, Vigilante operations, and Border Conflict Resolution, all of whom were appointed during the tenure of the indicted governors.

Christians launch Bible studies, aid ministry in South Sudan: ‘Poverty not seen anywhere else’

When Mitch Chapman first visited South Sudan a couple of years ago, he said God “showed me poverty that I’ve not seen anywhere else.” The director of Texans on Mission Water Impact has spent a lot of time in Africa.
“Even in comparison to the places we’re working in Uganda, South Sudan is so much poorer and in so much worse shape,” he said.
In April, TXM created a nonprofit in South Sudan to address the extreme water needs. The Texas-based ministry is the primary funder, and Chapman is on the board of directors. The eight-person staff is made up of people with South Sudan roots who have worked with Texans and Ugandans on Mission.
The new entity, South Sudanese on Mission, is headquartered in Nyamliell. It is basically a one-year project to determine longer-term viability, Chapman said.
“Our goal this year is to try to do 35 well rehabs with four or five new wells, depending on what can be negotiated,” he said. “And that would mean 40 new Bible studies and 40 hygiene classes.”
Rehabilitation of existing but non-working wells is a priority. In Aweil West County, Chapman said there are 684 water wells and 285 are non-operational. TXM did not drill those wells.
Before the beginning of a civil war in 2013, “organizations went and drilled a lot of wells over there, but we found out a lot of them weren’t deep enough, and they didn’t use good quality materials,” Chapman said.
South Sudanese on Mission will refit those non-functioning wells and start Bible studies and hygiene classes in each village, following the model established in neighboring Uganda.
Chapman and local leaders spent the first week in April on staff training and administration. “But by week two, we’d already started to meet Bible studies at four of the rehab sites.”
The Bible studies are started “independent of how many churches there are in an area,” he said.
“We start a Bible study and the people take it upon themselves to pick the church they want to go to,” Chapman said. “We don’t dictate whether it’s a Baptist church, a Methodist church or Pentecostal.”
“We just teach the Word, and our lessons are very much about discipleship and spiritual growth,” Chapman continued. “When we determine there’s not a church in the area then we go to local church associations and encourage them to sponsor a church around the well site.”
The South Sudanese team also includes a hygiene specialist who ensures the people “know how to wash their hands, how to clean the wellhead, how important it is not to let the goats drink from the water spigot itself,” he said. “It’s a critical component of the holistic effort.”
The work is now in an implementation phase.
“We haven’t rehabbed or drilled the first well, but we’re already at work teaching the Bible, making disciples and teaching good hygiene practices,” Chapman said.
The biggest challenge facing the ministry is political instability, so Chapman asked people to pray for the South Sudanese on Mission staff and, more generally, for the people of the country.
“We have no involvement with either side in the political dispute,” he said. “But the political situation does impact the lives of the people and the effectiveness of our work.
“Pray that we can help meet the water needs in South Sudan, lead people to faith in Christ and develop believers for service to God and their neighbors.”

China launched its first 10G broadband network in Sunan County, Hebei Province, on Sunday (April 20), marking a significant advancement in internet infrastructure. The launch is a collaborative work of Huawei and China Unicom, and it aims to deliver download speeds up to 9,834 Mbps, upload speeds of 1,008 Mbps, and latency as low as 3 milliseconds.
The 50G Passive Optical Network (PON) technology, which powers the 10G network, improves data transmission over the current fiber-optic infrastructure. High-bandwidth uses of this technology include cloud computing, virtual and augmented reality, streaming 8K video, and integrating smart home devices.
For instance, downloading a full-length 4K movie (around 20 GB in size) typically takes about 7-10 minutes on a 1 Gbps connection. With the new 10G broadband network, the same 4K film can be downloaded in under 20 seconds.
This puts China at the forefront of global broadband technology, surpassing current commercial broadband speeds in countries like the UAE and Qatar.
The implementation of 10G broadband is expected to facilitate advancements in various sectors, including healthcare, education, and agriculture, by enabling faster and more reliable data transmission.

Huawei was established in 1987 and is headquartered in Shenzhen. It is a global leader in telecommunications equipment and network solutions. The company has played a key role in advancing optical broadband and 5G technologies.
