Canadian church fighting $2,500 fine for hosting worship leader Sean Feucht

Published

on

A church in Montreal, Quebec, is fighting the $2,500 ticket the city government slapped on them in July for hosting activist missionary and worship leader Sean Feucht without a permit.

Ministerios Restauración Church, a Spanish-speaking congregation in Montreal’s Plateau-Mont-Royal borough, has pleaded not guilty to violating a city bylaw when they offered their church to Feucht after Montreal and other Canadian cities canceled stops in his “Revive in 25” tour.

The church’s attorneys, who are being funded by The Democracy Fund, have appealed the ticket in both municipal court and the Quebec Superior Court, alleging the city government abused its power and violated the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, according to a press release earlier this month.

The city of Montreal declined The Christian Post’s request for comment, citing ongoing litigation.

The appeal asks for the fine to be expunged, a declaration that the church has a right to conduct prayer and musical worship, and $10,000 in damages for alleged violation of Charter rights.

“This is the first step in defending the Church and ensuring that Christians in Canada have the same rights to freely and peacefully worship as anyone else,” TDF litigation director Mark Joseph said in a statement.

“TDF-funded lawyers expect to argue at Superior Court that both the Quebec Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantee these rights.”

Often citing “public safety concerns,” eight cities in Canada canceled tour stops this summer by Feucht, an outspoken Trump supporter who has denounced abortion, transgender ideology and homosexuality.

When Feucht’s initial tour stop in Montreal was canceled in July and the city fined the church for hosting him, Montreal Mayor Valerie Plante’s office said they issued the punishment to the congregation because they platformed Feucht despite objections from the city government regarding his opinions.

“This show runs counter to the values of inclusion, solidarity, and respect that are championed in Montreal,” a spokesperson for the mayor said in a statement to the National Post at the time. “Freedom of expression is one of our fundamental values, but hateful and discriminatory speech is not acceptable in Montreal.”

“A ticket was issued because the organization violated the regulations by going ahead with the show,” the spokesperson added.

Feucht’s appearance at the church, which was interrupted by a smoke bomb, drew heavy armed police presence, and officers arrested a 38-year-old protester at the event for obstruction.

Feucht, who performed worship music last Sunday during the vigil for the late Charlie Kirk at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., warned in July of growing anti-Christian sentiment among Canadian authorities.

“Here’s the hard truth: If I had shown up with purple hair and a dress, claiming to be a woman, the government wouldn’t have said a word. But to publicly profess deeply held Christian beliefs is to be labeled an extremist — and to have a free worship event classified as a public safety risk,” Feucht said.

Feucht rose to prominence during the COVID-19 pandemic for launching his “Let Us Worship” movement in protest of government-enforced church lockdowns. Canada drew international scrutiny during the pandemic when multiple pastors were jailed in the country for holding church services in defiance of ongoing lockdown orders.

(Dino Learns Not To Waste Food)

A four-year-old Indian-American boy has achieved a record for publishing a book. Advay Jain became the youngest person to publish a book in the male category, according to Guinness World Records.

Advay Jain was born on April 23, 2022, in Monmouth Junction, New Jersey, USA. He is recognised as the youngest person to publish a book (male).

Book Inspired By Preschool
Advay’s book was inspired by lunchtime at his preschool. The idea for the book came from his experiences during lunchtime at preschool. The record was verified in Monmouth Junction, New Jersey, on April 3, 2026.

The official Instagram account of the Consulate General of India shared a post showing the Consul General of India in New York, Binaya Srikanta Pradhan, meeting Advay Jain.

“Consul General Binaya Srikanta Pradhan welcomed 4-year-old Indian-origin author Advay Jain, Guinness World Record holder for being the youngest male to publish a book.”

Consul General of India in New York, Binaya Srikanta Pradhan, congratulated Advay on his achievement.

“Through his book “Dino Learns Not to Waste Food”, Advay inspires young readers to value food and embrace the importance of avoiding food waste,” the post from the Consul General reads.

“Warm congratulations to Advay on this remarkable achievement, and best wishes to Advay and his 12-year-old sister, Ms. Avya, also an author and painter, as they continue to inspire young minds through their creativity and stories,” it added.

In a blow to Indian IT majors, the United States on Thursday suspended several companies from the Permanent Labour Certification Programme, which lets firms apply for green cards for H-1B visa workers, arguing that the practice takes away jobs from Americans. The affected companies include Cognizant, Infosys, Tata, Wipro, and HCL.

US Labour Secretary Keith Sonderling announced the move, which also impacts Western behemoths like Capgemini, Microsoft and Adobe. He was flanked by the head of the US Anti-Fraud Task Force and Vice President JD Vance.

“I am hereby suspending from the Permanent Labour Certification Programme some of the largest IT outsourcing firms in the world, Cognizant, Infosys, Tata, Wipro, HCL, and Capgemini,” Sonderling said.

He said the US government will not accept “any new or process” any pending permanent labour certification applications involving these companies.

“Since 2009, just these companies alone have requested almost three million foreign workers. They’ve received over 230,000 H-1B visa approvals and over 100,000 permanent labour certifications,” Sonderling added.

He accused these companies of taking away hundreds of thousands of jobs from American workers.

The programme allows employers to sponsor foreign workers for permanent employment and residency.

Vance slammed Microsoft, calling it a company that abused the system the most.

“Microsoft laid off 6,000 American workers in 2025 after certifying that it could not find qualified American employees – yet the company was approved for more than 6,000 H-1Bs and filed 3,682 PERM applications, including nearly 1,000 applications for the same positions as the laid-off American workers,” the vice president said.

Indian IT professionals bag the lion’s share of the approved H-1B visa applications every year. As part of its larger crackdown against immigration to the US to save American jobs, the Donald Trump administration has been taking measures to make it difficult for companies to hire cost-effective talent from India and other South Asian nations on these temporary visas.

Last month, the Trump administration extended an executive order that would impose a fee of $100,000 for H-1B non-immigrant visas by another year.

JD Vance today called foreign workers hired on H1-B visas “foreign indentured servants” and the companies using the programme as “visa mills”.

He also claimed that “something weird” is underway in universities that sponsor research scholars through the J-1 visa programme.

“Something weird is going on at these universities. They’re using these visas way too much. They’re using them to undercut the wages of American grad students and American researchers,” Vance said.

“This is a fundamental insult to the American worker and to the American way of life. We cannot allow visa programs that were designed to ensure that American corporations had access to the best and the brightest, to use them to undercut the wages of American workers,” he added.

Vance accused the firms, chiefly Microsoft, of subverting due process. He claimed the rules require companies to advertise jobs in America before applying to the Department of Labour that they need foreign workers.

“They’ll put an advertisement in a small-town newspaper. They’ll go out there and say that ‘We have advertised for a position with our company, and nobody is responding to it.’ And they will use that lack of response to then go and replace American workers with what is effectively foreign indentured servants,” he claimed.

NASSCOM Reacts
Industry body NASSCOM said Indian technology companies have reduced their dependence on H-1B visas.

“While the decision affects a specific immigration pathway, NASSCOM has consistently maintained that immigration and skilled talent mobility are two distinct issues and should not be viewed through the same lens,” it said in a statement.

“The H-1B visa programme has historically played an important role in addressing short-term skill gaps in the U.S., and it will continue to be used to address short-term talent gaps. However, over a number of years, Indian technology companies have significantly reduced their dependence on H-1B visas, while steadily expanding local hiring and building a strong domestic workforce in the U.S. They work with majority of the US fortune 500 companies, enable them to innovate and grow, and generate more local jobs,” it added.
