വാഷിംഗ്ടൺ: ആപ്പ് സ്റ്റോറുകൾ വഴി ആപ്ലിക്കേഷനുകൾ ഡൗൺലോഡ് ചെയ്യുന്ന ഉപഭോക്താക്കളുടെ പ്രായപരിശോധന നിർബന്ധമാക്കുന്ന ടെക്സസ് സംസ്ഥാന നിയമം തടയണമെന്ന ആവശ്യവുമായി സമർപ്പിക്കപ്പെട്ട അടിയന്തര ഹർജികൾ യുഎസ് സുപ്രീം കോടതി തള്ളിക്കളഞ്ഞു. തിങ്കളാഴ്ചയാണ് കോടതി ഈ സുപ്രധാന തീരുമാനം പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചത്. ഹർജികൾ നിരസിച്ചതുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട് കൂടുതൽ വിശദീകരണങ്ങളൊന്നും നൽകാൻ കോടതി തയ്യാറായില്ല. വിധിയിൽ ജഡ്ജിമാർ ആരും തന്നെ വിയോജിപ്പ് രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുമില്ല.
സെനറ്റ് ബിൽ 2420 പ്രകാരം ആപ്പ് സ്റ്റോറുകളിൽ പ്രായപരിശോധന നടത്തണമെന്നും പ്രായപൂർത്തിയാകാത്തവർ ആപ്പുകൾ ഡൗൺലോഡ് ചെയ്യുന്നതിന് മാതാപിതാക്കളുടെ അനുമതി വാങ്ങണമെന്നും ടെക്സസ് നിയമം നിർബന്ധമാക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. എന്നാൽ ഈ നിയമം ഭരണഘടനയുടെ ഒന്നാം ഭേദഗതിയുടെ ലംഘനമാണെന്ന് ചൂണ്ടിക്കാട്ടിയാണ് ‘സ്റ്റുഡന്റ്സ് എൻഗേജ്ഡ് ഇൻ അഡ്വാൻസിങ് ടെക്സസ്’ എന്ന ആക്ടിവിസ്റ്റ് ഗ്രൂപ്പും, സാങ്കേതിക വ്യവസായ മേഖലയിലെ ലോബിയിങ് സംഘടനയായ ‘കമ്പ്യൂട്ടർ ആൻഡ് കമ്മ്യൂണിക്കേഷൻസ് ഇൻഡസ്ട്രി അസോസിയേഷനും’ കഴിഞ്ഞ മാസം സുപ്രീം കോടതിയെ സമീപിച്ചത്. ഈ ഹർജികളാണ് ഇപ്പോൾ കോടതി തള്ളിയിരിക്കുന്നത്.

The US Supreme Court has cleared the way for Texas to begin enforcing a law that requires app stores to verify users’ ages and obtain parental consent before minors can download apps or make in-app purchases, while a legal challenge continues.
The law, known as the App Store Accountability Act, was signed by Republican Governor Greg Abbott in 2025. It requires app store accounts belonging to anyone under 18 to be linked to a parent or guardian. Before a child or teenager can download any app, parents must be notified of its age rating and approve the download.
Texas urged the court to allow the law to continue to be enforced while a constitutional challenge to it plays out in the lower courts. The state’s Solicitor General William Peterson is arguing that “the modern digital world is different” from the physical world and that the law was needed since children can access “any conceivable content” online without their parents’ knowledge.
But critics say the law goes much further than protecting children.
The challenge was brought by two students, a student advocacy group called Students Engaged in Advancing Texas, and the Computer & Communications Industry Association, whose members include app store operators Apple and Google.
They argue the law violates the US Constitution’s First Amendment protections for free speech by forcing app stores to verify users’ ages before they can access online content.
“No state has ever required its citizens to prove their age before reading a newspaper, entering a bookstore, or even accessing the internet,” the Computer & Communications Industry Association wrote. “The Texas law does exactly that — for every mobile app on every mobile phone.”
That comparison was echoed by a federal judge who blocked the law in December. US District Judge Robert Pitman said the measure was similar to requiring every bookstore to check the age of customers before letting them inside and then requiring parental permission before minors could buy a book.
But in June, a federal appeals court allowed the law to take effect while the legal battle continued, saying that Texas has a “substantial, if not compelling, interest in protecting children, and parents need to have the necessary information to make informed choices affecting their children’s upbringing.”
On Monday, the Supreme Court declined to intervene, leaving the appeals court’s decision in place.
The decision comes a year after the Supreme Court upheld a separate Texas law requiring age verification for pornographic websites, rejecting arguments from the adult entertainment industry that the measure violated adults’ First Amendment rights. That ruling split the court 6-3, with the six conservative justices in the majority and the three liberal justices dissenting.
The measure is part of a broader push in the United States and elsewhere to give parents more oversight of children’s online activity and limit the potential harms of social media. Last year, Australia became the first country to ban social media for under-16s.

Very often, the truth is hiding in plain sight. That’s certainly the case with much of children’s entertainment.
The underlying message affixed to any number of movies geared toward kids seems to be some version of following one’s own heart, listening to his desires, chasing after her feelings. But that message, according to Trevin Wax, is a direct contradiction to the Gospel.
Wax, an author and visiting professor at Cedarville University, recently appeared on CBN’s “Faith in Culture,” were he eschewed such ideologies. While the world calls those ideas “common sense,” he said they are incongruous with Christianity.
“You think of these slogans that are out there, like, ‘Be true to yourself,’ ‘You do you,’ ‘Live your truth,’ ‘You are enough,’ ‘Follow your heart,’ ‘Chase your dreams,’” he said. “Sociologists call that ‘expressive individualism.’ … That’s the plot line in so many movies, even, like, good wholesome movies, in Disney movies. … It kind of passes for common sense in our day and age.”
The secular understanding of “freedom” is a far cry from true freedom as explained in Scripture, Wax said.
“It’s just so easy to define freedom in our day as a freedom from constraints, from limitations,” he explained. “[The world says] freedom is me doing whatever I want to do, when the Bible actually teaches that, ‘No, you doing just whatever you want to do, especially in our flesh, is a kind of slavery.’”
Throughout the New Testament, the Apostle Paul explains human beings will always be slaves to something — either to sin and our own desires or to a just and merciful God whose ways are higher and better than our own.
In Romans 6:16, Paul wrote, “Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living” (NLT).
“True freedom is submission to God, and it’s freedom for something,” said Wax. “It’s not doing whatever we want; it’s aligning our wants with God’s will, recognizing that that’s when we’re truly freest.”
Wax is the author of the new book, “The Gospel Way Catechism for Kids,” a children’s edition of his book by the same title.
In it, he and his co-author, Thomas West, outline 50 faith-centered questions and answers for children to read, study, and talk about with their families. He explained that these catechisms should serve as conversation starters in the home.
“A catechism isn’t supposed to be everything,” he said. “It’s supposed to be something. It’s meant to give you the structure or the scaffolding that you can then come in later and begin to fill in.”
While the world teaches a “meditation” that empties the mind of everything, Wax emphasized a godly mindfulness that calls believers to fill their minds with the commands and promises of Scripture.
“We’ve got to distinguish the Christian understanding of prayer from just mindfulness routines or just Eastern meditation that leads us to sort of empty our minds,” he explained. “[B]iblical meditation … is a filling of the mind with Scripture and God’s Word.”
