“Every life is precious to God ”: Tim Tebo at the March for Life Rally
Washington — Although the 2021 March for Life was far different from the previous 47 annual marches to protest the Supreme Court’s decision legalizing abortion, organizers and rally speakers stressed that the smaller, and primarily virtual crowd, delivered the very same message.
It was simply “more somber and prayerful,” said Jeanne Mancini, president of the March for Life Defense and Education Fund, in the livestreamed broadcast of a group of pro-life leaders making their way to the Supreme Court after the virtual rally.
“We are symbolically marching,” she said of the group representing those who would have marched in normal circumstances, adding that this was a “unique moment to build a culture of life.”
The usual in-person march that typically draws crowds by the busloads was already going to be scaled back as many groups canceled their plans to come to Washington during the pandemic.
On Jan. 15, organizers officially announced the event would primarily be virtual, saying that increased security pressures for law enforcement officers around the U.S. Capitol — since the Jan. 6 assault on the Capitol and threats of subsequent violence by domestic terrorist groups — made it impossible to ensure security for march participants.
The message for participants, not muffled by coats, winter gear and crowds moving up and down to stay warm as in previous years, was a resounding cry to continue the fight for the unborn and to advocate for anti-abortion legislation.
The virtual rally was free of usual placards, but it included advertisements from various sponsor groups.
It also did not have the back and forth heated discussions that sometimes occur on the sidewalks or at the Supreme Court with those on both sides of the issue, but snippets of this discussion came up in the comments section for those watching the event on the YouTube link.
The comments section also revealed where many of the viewers were from with comments such as “marching with you” from Louisiana, California and Poland.
The rally began and ended with song and prayer with songs performed by Matthew West, a Christian recording artist and songwriter. The opening prayer was said by Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann of Kansas City, Kansas, chairman of the U.S. bishops’ Committee on Pro-Life Activities, and the closing prayer was said by Cissie Graham Lynch, granddaughter of the well-known Southern Baptist minister, Rev. Billy Graham.
The archbishop prayed for God’s blessing on the “pro-life movement in this nation,” and noted that even though its members were separated by distance, they were united by their use of their talents in building a culture of life.
He also prayed for pregnant women and for those who have been “wounded by abortion,” stressing the need to “walk with them in their time of need.”
The rally did not have the usual array of dozens of speakers from Congress but did include a handful of them addressing participants in pretaped messages. Two Democrats were among these speakers: Rep. Angie Hatton of Kentucky, who is the House minority whip, and state Sen. Mike Gabbard of Hawaii.
Hatton said there needs to be a bipartisan effort to end abortion, not just by outlawing the practice but eliminating the need for women to seek abortions by providing better health care, child care, adoption and social services. She said she is asking pro-life Republicans to also work for “pro-babies and moms’ legislation.”
Gabbard urged virtual rallygoers to recognize they are “on a mission together” and to do their best to preserve life “with love and compassion.”
Rep. Chris Smith, R-New Jersey, who is a regular on the stage during March for Life rallies, pointed out that over the years there have been “significant pro-life setbacks — but pro-lifers absolutely refused to quit or go away.” He said that same spirit continues today as the movement faces “enormous challenges.”
Smith directed his comments to President Joe Biden and stressed that the unborn need the president of the United States “to be their friend and advocate, not another powerful adversary.”
Referring to Biden’s remarks at his inauguration that “the dream of justice for all will be deferred no longer,” Smith said those words can only have true meaning if the lives of unborn children are “must be included, and their precious lives must be protected.
Each year many people at the March for Life say they are impressed by the overwhelming youth presence at the march and rally. This year, Elizabeth Eller, student body president at Christendom College, a Catholic college in Front Royal, Virginia, directly addressed younger viewers, urging them to do everything they can for the pro-life movement.
“We can be the generation that sees an end to abortion,” she said.
Tim Tebow, a former professional football quarterback, told his story about how his mother, when she was pregnant with him, had been advised to have an abortion to save her life but she chose not to.
He urged virtual marchers to be willing to “suffer for and with the unborn.”
“We’ve got to do a better job of being all pro-life all the time,” he said. With a pep talk of sorts to the crowd, he added: “This is a hard fight and it might get even harder but stay in it.”
The rally and march, even in a different format, were not meant to be the end of any advocacy work.
As Mancini said in her closing remarks, the fight would continue in other marches to state capitols and in the work every day by people in the pro-life movement.

WASHINGTON — Religious freedom activists are encouraging Americans to learn from Christians who live in countries where they face persecution or death for their faith and develop a willingness to “follow Jesus no matter the cost.”
The fourth annual March for the Martyrs was held in the nation’s capital on Saturday. The event, which drew dozens of people to the National Mall, seeks to raise awareness of the plight of persecuted Christians worldwide. Following a rally featuring worship music and speeches from religious freedom activists, participants marched through the streets to the Museum of the Bible.
“What we’re really excited about is how many Christians from all denominations come together,” For the Martyrs founder Gia Chacón said in an interview with The Christian Post shortly before the event kicked off. “This is not just an event for Evangelicals or Baptists; this is an event for everyone who professes Jesus Christ as Lord, and that’s what we’re most excited about.”
“Christian persecution is a human rights issue, so not only are we coming together in prayer as the Body of Christ, but we hope to bring this … crisis to the forefront of the fight for human rights and demand action from the United States government in protecting Christians all over the world,” she added. “The spiritual component of the March for the Martyrs should not be underestimated. It is so powerful when Christians come together as one voice in prayer and to uplift human dignity and advocate for human rights.”
Chacón said March for the Martyrs is one way to advocate for “religious freedom and the protection of our brothers and sisters who are suffering for their faith in Christ.” During remarks delivered on stage, she elaborated on the hostile atmosphere Christians face in other parts of the world: “In places throughout the Middle East, Christians are suffering every day for their faith. Laying down their life is something that’s normal, not a rare occurrence.”
“Christian persecution has increased by 100 million people” since the first March for the Martyrs took place in 2020, Chacón lamented. “There are now over 365 million Christians around the world who are facing persecution because of their faith in Christ.”
uring her speech, Chacón recalled a conversation she had with Egyptian Christians who lost loved ones as a result of Christian persecution: “They said, ‘We’re so proud of them, we’re so proud of them that Jesus meant everything to them.’”
“We need that witness here in the United States,” Chacón asserted. “We need the courage to lay down our life, to follow Jesus no matter the cost.”
Other speakers at the event echoed Chacón’s call for the American Christians to embrace a stronger Christian witness. Simone Rizkallah, the director of education for the Philos Project, quoted a response from an Eastern Catholic religious leader to a Westerner who asked, “what can we do to help” Christians in Iraq, Syria and other countries who found themselves under attack by the Islamic State terrorist group. The patriarch replied, “be happy.”
“What he meant by saying ‘be happy’ is to so much embody the glory of God, to so much embody and reflect and witness to Christian joy that our sacrifices in the East don’t feel like they’re sacrificed in vain when it comes to the Body of Christ,” Rizkallah said, suggesting throughout her remarks that Christians in the U.S. lack that kind of zeal.
Rizkallah agreed with the conclusion reached by Mother Teresa that “the poorest country” was the U.S. “because of the poverty of loneliness.” The religious freedom activist suggested that the loneliness noticed by the late spiritual leader stems from the fact that “the United States has forgotten God, it has forgotten Jesus, it has forgotten its roots.”
As the granddaughter of Armenians who escaped to Egypt amid the Armenian Genocide, Rizkallah said her parents came to the United States before she was born. While she expressed gratitude for “the economic prosperity and the religious freedom that this country provides,” she lamented that “something spiritually was lost when we became Americans.”
Rizkallah said she was disgusted by the fact that her classmates at the Catholic high school she attended “didn’t care about the faith.”
“I thought to myself, isn’t it interesting that you’re finally free to practice your faith and when you’re finally free, you don’t care anymore,” she added.
Another speaker, Christian speaker and media personality Christian Trimino, elaborated on how visiting the dictatorship of Cuba in 2016 changed his perspective on life: “You have these people who have so much joy. You have beautiful architecture, classic cars, amazing food and despite what their living conditions were, when you talk to these people, they’re all so full of joy and they’re all so happy.”
“When you look at Western culture, we live in a world right now where we’re contrasting the United States with a lot of these other countries and one word that comes to mind is ‘comfortability,’” he contended. Trimino contrasted what he viewed as the prevailing mindset in the U.S., where people don’t “want to do anything that’s against their immediate comfort” with the philosophy of Christians in Cuba and other hotbeds of religious persecution.
“You have people who are literally being killed just for saying that they believe in Jesus. You have people that are being forced out of their homes. You have people that are being forced out of their countries. You have people who are being tortured, being separated from families all because they don’t want to … go against Jesus.”
Trimino suggested that Americans can learn a lesson from “our brothers and sisters who are persecuted around the world” who have “such a real relationship with Jesus.” He detailed how these people have adopted a philosophy that “you can take my home, you can take my business, you can take my reputation, you can take my money, you can take my wife, you can take my husband, you can take my kids, I’ll even give you my life, but the one thing that you cannot take from me is my Jesus.”
He further insisted that Americans have an obligation to “take the freedom that we have in the United States and to be grateful for it and to steward it well, to use our freedom to come to events like this, to start organizations like Gia started, and to actually make positive change and to stand for and to fight and to say, ‘Thank you, Jesus, that we have the opportunity that you have placed us in this time and in this place to make global change around the world.’”

നാഷണൽ ഫൗണ്ടേഷൻ ഫോർ അമേരിക്കൻ പോളിസി (NFAP) പുറത്തുവിട്ട റിപ്പോർട്ടിലാണ് ഇക്കാര്യം വ്യക്തമാക്കിയിട്ടുള്ളത്. അമേരിക്കയിലെ ഇമിഗ്രേഷൻ നിയമങ്ങൾ കാനഡയേക്കാൾ കൂടുതൽ കർശനമാണ് എന്നതാണ് വിദ്യാർത്ഥികളെ ഇക്കാര്യത്തിന് പ്രേരിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്. അമേരിക്കയിൽ എച്ച്-1ബി വിസ നേടാനും പെര്മനന്റ് റസിഡൻസ് നേടാനും അത്ര എളുപ്പമല്ല. എന്നാൽ കാനഡയിൽ താൽക്കാലികമായി ജോലി ചെയ്യാനും പെര്മനന്റ് റസിഡൻസ് നേടാനും എളുപ്പമാണ് എന്ന് റിപ്പോർട്ടിൽ പറയുന്നു

2010/11 അധ്യയന വർഷത്തിൽ 9000-നടുത്ത് വിദ്യാര്ഥികള് മാത്രമാണ് കനേഡിയൻ യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റികളിൽ പഠിക്കാനെത്തിയത്. പത്തുവർഷങ്ങൾ പിന്നിടുമ്പോൾ ഇത് 2021-ൽ ഇത് 128,928 ആണ്. വിദ്യാര്ഥികള് അമേരിക്കയേക്കാൾ കാനഡയെ തെരഞ്ഞെടുക്കുന്നതിന് കാരണങ്ങളെ കുറിച്ചും കഴിഞ്ഞ വർഷങ്ങളിൽ ഇരു രാജ്യങ്ങളിലേക്കെത്തിയ വിദ്യാർത്ഥികളുടെ എണ്ണത്തെയും വിശദമായി റിപ്പോർട്ടിൽ പറയുന്നുണ്ട്.
ജനുവരിയിൽ അടുത്ത രണ്ടു വർഷത്തേക്ക് അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര വിദ്യാർത്ഥികളുടെ കാര്യത്തിൽ കാനഡ പരിധി നിശ്ചയിച്ചിരുന്നു. സപ്തംബറിൽ ആദ്യമായി താൽക്കാലിക റസിഡൻസി നൽകുന്ന കാര്യത്തിൽ കാനഡ പരിധി കൊണ്ടുവരികയാണ്. ഇത് വിദ്യാർത്ഥികളുടെ തെരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പിനെ എങ്ങനെ ബാധിക്കുമെന്ന കാര്യം കണ്ടറിയേണ്ടതാണ്. ഇന്ത്യയും കാനഡയും തമ്മിലുണ്ടായ നയതന്ത്രവിഷയങ്ങളും ഇക്കാര്യത്തിൽ വിദ്യാര്ഥികളുടെ തെരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പിനെ ബാധിച്ചേക്കും.
