China — Zhang Zhan, a 40-year-old Christian blogger, journalist, activist, and former human rights lawyer, was scheduled to be released on May 13 after four years in prison.

Zhang was imprisoned in May 2020 after she was convicted of reporting on the outbreak of COVID-19 in Wuhan, China. The Free Zhang Zhan campaign issued a press release on May 13 stating that there was no confirmation of her release from prison and that Zhang’s family had been under immense pressure from Chinese officials not to give any media interviews about her case.

The press release added, “We are left wondering where she is, how she is doing physically and mentally, what’s happened to her family, and what the future holds for her … It is totally unacceptable that the Chinese government subject many human rights defenders and their families to this kind of cruelty. Even after their release from prison, they are still deprived of their basic rights.”

Zhang’scase highlights the Chinese government’s arbitrary arrests of Christians, journalists, human rights lawyers, and other activists who challenge the Communist government’s control and policies.

“International Christian Concern (ICC) joins the Free Zhang Zhan campaign and other international advocacy groups and Christian ministries in calling on the Chinese government to immediately confirm Zhang’s release to her family,” an ICC staffer in the region said.

“‘പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവ് എന്താണ്’ എന്ന ചോദ്യത്തിന് എങ്ങനെ ഉത്തരം നൽകണമെന്ന് പലർക്കും അറിയില്ല. പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവാണ് നമ്മുടെ ജീവിതത്തിൻ്റെ നായകൻ. അവൻ നമ്മെ മുന്നോട്ടു കൊണ്ടുപോകുന്നു. മുന്നോട്ടുപോകാൻ നമ്മെ സഹായിക്കുന്നു, നമ്മുടെ ക്രിസ്തീയജീവിതം വികസിപ്പിക്കാൻ നമ്മെ സഹായിക്കുന്നു. പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവ് നമ്മുടെ ഉള്ളിലുണ്ട്. നാം എല്ലാവർക്കും പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവിനെ സ്നാനത്തിലൂടെയും സ്ഥിരീകരണത്തിലൂടെയും ലഭിച്ചു. ക്രിസ്തീയജീവിതം നയിക്കാൻ പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവ് നമുക്ക് ധൈര്യം നൽകുന്നു. ഈ ധൈര്യം കൊണ്ട് ഞങ്ങളുടെ ജീവിതം മാറുന്നു”- പാപ്പ പറഞ്ഞു.

പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവിനെ ലഭിച്ചപ്പോൾ ഭയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നുവെങ്കിലും സുവിശേഷം പ്രസംഗിക്കാൻ ധൈര്യത്തോടെ മുന്നോട്ടുപോയ അപ്പോസ്തലന്മാരെ മാർപാപ്പ ഒരു ഉദാഹരണമായി എടുത്തുകാട്ടി.
