Asha Bhosle, a legendary Bollywood singer who became a cultural icon, has died aged 92, her son has confirmed.
The unrivalled queen of Indian playback singing died in Mumbai, having been admitted to hospital after suffering a heart attack.
Her death marks the end of an era in Bollywood music – with her career spanning more than eight decades and encompassing more than 12,000 songs.
Bhosle’s distinctive voice breathed life into countless film songs as actors lip-synced to her unforgettable tracks.
Her pervasive presence in Bollywood earned her the 1997 hit Cornershop tribute Brimful of Asha, and she was also known internationally for a collaboration with British musician Boy George.
Her voice had an infectious quality that kept fans on their feet, dancing and singing along, ensuring that her music became the soundtrack to generations.
The news of her death has seen an outpouring of tributes on social media.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi called her “one of the most iconic and versatile voices India has ever known.” In a post on X, he said her “extraordinary musical journey” enriched the nation’s cultural heritage and touched “countless hearts across the world”.
Actor and politician Hema Malini voiced her grief, saying the singer’s death “is especially hard for me as I have an emotional connect with Ashaji – she has made many of my songs so popular with her unique voice and style”.
Composer Shankar Mahadevan said “every Indian is heartbroken today”, adding that her music would “never perish as long as humanity exists” and that she would “live forever, with her incredible voice echoing across the world”.
The tributes reflect a wider recognition of Bhosle’s remarkable artistry. With a voice that moved effortlessly from romantic ballads to energetic numbers, she became the go-to singer for composers across genres.
Her range and vitality made every song a celebration, defining the sound of Bollywood for generations.
From Dum Maro Dum to Piya Tu Ab To Aaja, her versatility knew no bounds. Films such as Teesri Manzil, Caravan, Yaadon Ki Baaraat, Ijaazat and Saagar featured some of her most memorable work, while Umrao Jaan, composed by Khayyam, is widely regarded as a career high point.
Bhosle carved her own path in the world of music, distinct from her sister Lata Mangeshkar, who died in 2022.
While Mangeshkar embodied classical grace and precision, Bhosle brought a bold, dynamic energy to her songs.
Bhosle’s partnership with composer RD Burman (whom she later married) was one of the most iconic collaborations in Bollywood – together they crafted a soundscape that revolutionised the industry.
Her voice perfectly matched Burman’s experimental, eclectic tunes, resulting in numerous hits that spanned genres – from soulful melodies to upbeat numbers.
Bhosle and Burman built an extraordinary musical legacy together over 25 years, with Asha once recalling how he brought out the best in her.
“It is only Pancham [as Burman was fondly called] who has uncovered my range as a singer. Till Pancham made me explore the inner recesses of my own voice… I was totally unaware of the fact that I could sing with such suppleness of throat,” Bhosle said in an interview in 2023.
Born on 8 September 1933 in Goar, Maharashtra, Bhosle hailed from the renowned Mangeshkar family.
Raised in a musically rich home by her actor and classical singer father, Deenanath Mangeshkar, Asha began her musical journey early, singing her first song for the Marathi film Majha Bal in 1943.
Her career soared in the 50s and 60s as she became a versatile artist across genres – performing for films, ghazals, bhajans, qawwalis and pop. Collaborations with OP Nayyar, Burman and SD Burman made her a household name.
Hits like Aaiye Meherbaan (1958), Parde Mein Rehne Do (1968) and Dum Maro Dum (1971) are just a few highlights of her vast repertoire.
Her duets with legends such as Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar and Manna Dey remain timeless classics.
Bhosle’s personal life was as vibrant as her career. At 16, she eloped with her neighbour, Ganpatrao Bhosle, leading to a tumultuous marriage and separation.
Mangeshkar later recalled that Bhosle’s husband isolated her from the family, “preventing contact for years”. Ganpatrao also took her to music directors, hoping to profit from her talent and exerting control over her, causing her great hardship, Mangeshkar told film historian Nasrin Munni Kabir.
Bhosle left her husband in 1960 as a single mother of three children. She later teamed up with Burman, whom she married in 1980. Burman died in 1994 at the age of 54.
Bhosle faced constant comparisons with her sister, fuelling rumours of rivalry.
Despite the sisters living in the same building and sharing a cordial relationship, some claim Mangeshkar hindered Bhosle’s career, with Bhosle herself once suggesting she could have risen “earlier than I did” with her sister’s help.
Mangeshkar attributed their silence to Bhosle’s husband’s influence. While the rivalry persists in public perception, many believe it has been exaggerated.
In 1971, Bhosle told film writer Raju Bharatan: “After all we’d both inherited… the bounty of music. No doubt didi [older sister in Hindi] had a headstart, but that only made me more determined to catch up with her.”
Bhosle was celebrated for her remarkable ability to adapt her voice to evolving musical styles.
Over the years, she collaborated with a range of international pop artists – in the early 1990s, she teamed up with Boy George and recorded a track with R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe.
Meanwhile, Cornershop’s tribute to her singing gained even greater popularity after a remix by Fatboy Slim.
Bhosle’s love for cricket was well known, with the sport being one of her favorite pastimes.
Her collaboration with Australian cricketer Brett Lee in 2007 was a fun moment, as they teamed up for the song You’re the One for Me, which featured during the inaugural Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
“Any meeting with Asha has to be a talk show. She will do all the talking, of course, interrupting the flow of words only to sing,” Bharatan, her biographer, wrote.
“You could make all the fun that you wanted of her – she would take it on the chin like the good sport that she is.”
Bhosle celebrated her 90th birthday in 2023 with a live concert in Dubai. “At 90, standing for three hours on stage and singing is a blessing,” she said in an interview ahead of the show.
Bhosle never stopped working. In 2020, she launched the online talent show Asha Ki Asha. She also started a YouTube channel, encouraged by her granddaughter Zanai, sharing stories from her career and gaining over 160,000 subscribers.
“For me, music is my breath. I have spent my life with this thought. I have given a lot to music. I feel good I’ve come out of difficult times. Many times I felt I would not be able to survive, but I did,” Bhosle said in 2023.
In one of her final recordings, she collaborated with the British virtual band Gorillaz on their 2026 album The Mountain, shaped by themes of grief and mortality.
The track, The Shadowy Light, paired her unmistakable voice with an international group of musicians, its imagery of a boatman guiding a soul across unknown waters reflecting on death and the afterlife.
The collaboration stood as a powerful closing note to her career, showcasing her enduring ability to transcend boundaries of genre, geography and time.

‘No Limbs, No Limits: The NickV Story’ Coming to Theaters Next Month
“No Limbs, No Limits” captures the powerful story of inspirational speaker Nick Vujicic’s early life, revealing how Christ trades beauty for ashes.
As a top three speaker worldwide, Vujicic inspires billions of people, declaring Christ’s ability to use any willing heart no matter the circumstances.
Coming to theaters September 25, 2026, “No Limbs, No Limits: The NickV Story” will follow how Vujicic’s life became one of extraordinary resilience, hope, and Kingdom influence despite being born with no arms or legs.
The film features deeply personal home videos revealing intimate moments Vujicic and his family experienced. However, all of them proclaim one final message of hope.
“It was humbling. Revisiting some of the darkest seasons of my life hasn’t been easy, but neither was watching my family relive it with me. At the same time, we celebrate the lives that have been changed and the people who have come to Christ along the way,” Vujicic told CBN News’ Studio 5. “It’s amazing to have footage my mom had the foresight to capture when I was little, and I’m so grateful she did. Every frame of this film points back to one thing—what God can do with your broken pieces when you place them in His hands.”
While the film takes the viewers through Vujicic’s “real” and “raw” life, it is not meant to glorify him or his accomplishments but rather acknowledge the God who spoke a better word when his physical condition declared defeat.
“People can expect the real deal. It’s raw. The highs, the lows, and stuff I’ve never shared publicly before. This film isn’t about what “Nick” has done. It’s about what God has done with a guy born without arms and legs,” Vujicic shared.
“I want folks to walk away inspired and knowing they’re not too broken, too forgotten, or too far gone; everyone’s life has purpose,” Vujicic told CBN News’ Studio 5.
For Vujicic, the film’s overall success is not measured in ticket sales or reviews, but on the millions of people who may leave the theater inspired and transformed by the name of Jesus Christ.
“I want people to walk away knowing their limitations don’t define their potential when they’re in God’s hands. If He can use a man with no arms and no legs to reach the nations, He can absolutely use you. You just have to say yes. My hope is that folks leave inspired to trust Him and live boldly for Him. At the end of the day, the real win isn’t ticket sales or reviews; it’s about a million people watching ‘No Limbs, No Limits’ and walking out changed forever in Jesus’ name,” Vujicic concluded.

‘Candace Cameron Bure’s Son Reveals Answering God’s Call to Preach
Lev Bure, the son of “Full House” actress Candace Cameron Bure, has been on a powerful and unexpected journey toward preaching the Gospel.
In a recent interview with CBN News, Bure shared how God called him to share Scripture, and why he believes revival is happening among young people today.
Bure, 26, said the roots of his interest in preaching came from the church where he grew up attending.
“I grew up with going to church in Shepherd of the Hills Church in Los Angeles … [with] Pastor Dudley Rutherford,” he said. “And they kind of curated this really cool weekend where he had the idea on a Sunday service to gather three, four, five young preachers, young individuals and kind of split up this Sunday sermon.”
At the time, he was 19 and ended up throwing his hat in the ring. While Bure said he’s not one to take “crazy chances” on his own, he said he has no problem jumping into the mix if he’s invited.
“So that was my first opportunity to kind of be in the pulpit with four other young communicators and … preach at a church and for a few services,” he said. “And that was kind of the start of it.”
Bure said he has since been fortunate to have other opportunities to preach and share the Gospel. He believes it’s a “great privilege” to share God’s Word and always seeks to do so with diligence and truth.
“We all … get to be part of God’s mission to glorify Him and make Him known to the world,” he said. “And we all get to do that, and millions of different ways, and I’m thankful that … this is a way that God’s allowed me to kind of be part of His mission, and I really enjoy it.”
Bure said he’s not trying to forecast a vision for the future, but that he has enjoyed the opportunity to preach the Gospel from the pulpit — and he’s excited for what’s next.
“If it’s something that He would grace me with and continue to in the future, absolutely,” Bure said of preaching. “It’s something I would love to pursue, I love to do, and I have a heart for it.”
Like many preachers, Bure relies on prayer and fasting before preparing and delivering a message. Ultimately, through many tools, he seeks God’s heart for each sermon.
“I kind of put myself in a place to be intimate with Him and really just try and receive what He would have,” he said. “And … He speaks to me in a lot of different ways through the timing of things, through just the conviction that’s put on my heart, through what I hear the congregation is learning about or interested in.”
In addition to Bure’s home church, his faith was deeply shaped by his parents, Candace Cameron Bure and her husband, Valeri Bure — two figures whose love for Jesus shone brightly in his life.
“I always think about … if I didn’t grow up in a home where my parents loved Jesus, like what would my life look like?” Bure said. “How would I be introduced to Christ? And it’s something I contemplate, but at the same time, something I sit in just so much gratitude that, again, I’ve been blessed enough to be born into a family where two parents love Jesus.”
Bure said his parents’ faith allowed him to be introduced to Christ at an early age, learning powerful lessons along the way.
“I think the biggest lessons that I learned from my parents personally growing up were really, I would say, just an intimacy for Christ is the biggest thing,” he said. “I’ve been so blessed to learn from them in a lot of different ways, but when you break it down, it comes to an abiding and intimate relationship with Jesus, and as long as that foundation is there, all else fails flows from it, and so to see that modeled from a young age is probably the most influential thing that my parents gave to myself and my siblings.”
Bure’s interest in preaching comes as his generation shows increased curiosity about Christianity and the Bible. Reflecting on the many headlines about young people flocking to baptism and faith, Bure called the developments “absolutely remarkable.”
“First of all, praise God for it all,” he said, noting that the younger generation is realizing that instant gratification simply won’t satisfy the human heart and mind. “I think, slowly … the younger generation is starting to feel the reality of this God-sized hole that’s in their lives, where everything that we think will gratify our desires, our greatest wishes, whether that’s through… you know social media, or money, or career, whatever you want to call it —I think slowly you’re finding that, at the end of the day, we still feel empty inside.”
He believes the truth of Christ then becomes increasingly evident to many people facing this scenario. And Bure wants to be a conduit to helping people discover that eternal truth.
“I’m passionate about people knowing Jesus, and I’m passionate about being part of that mission,” he said. “I think it’s why we as believers, we’re here … to glorify God and make Him known,” Bure said. “And so, realistically, I think I’ve gotten to be part of that a little bit and through communicating His word, and so I’d love to see that grow.”

Cameron Arnett says ‘Soul Snatchers’ film confronts Church’s fear of spiritual warfare
Award-winning actor Cameron Arnett believes Christians should be leading conversations about the supernatural, and he hopes his latest film, “Soul Snatchers,” will challenge believers to rethink both spiritual warfare and the power they have through Christ.
“We are supposed to be the ones who understand the supernatural power of God and bring the supernatural power of God to bear upon all society,” the 65-year-old Port-Au-Prince native told The Christian Post. “People will get an opportunity to see the power of God over evil. That’s what we really want to happen.”
The upcoming supernatural thriller stars Arnett as Emmanuel, a man who returns with his family to the remote island of his childhood to establish a music school for orphaned children. But beneath the island’s idyllic landscape lurks a sinister force that begins unraveling his mission and his family, leading to a battle that threatens not only their lives but their souls.
Directed by Julio Román, who co-wrote the screenplay with Cesar R. Castillo, the film also stars William Oliver, Carla Adell, Rebecca Rogers and Osvaldo Friger. “Soul Snatchers” merges supernatural suspense with themes of faith, redemption and spiritual warfare. The film was showcased at the 2026 Marché du Film during the Cannes Film Festival as part of its international rollout.
For Arnett, who also stars in the Kendrick Brothers films “The Forge” and “Overcomer,” “Soul Snatcher” represents an opportunity to push faith-based storytelling into territory he lamented the Church has too often neglected.
“The supernatural can be a horrific thing if you don’t understand it,” he said. “But it’s actually the answer that God has made the Church to be. We are the supernatural answer to all of the fears of the world.”
Scripture, Arnett added, presents a reality in which God has already defeated evil, yet many Christians fail to live with that confidence.
“I think in the United States we’ve become very practical in our perspective of Christianity,” Arnett said. “We actually serve a God who’s not linear. He’s above and beyond time and all existence.”
Arnett, who first broke through in Hollywood playing Ensign Mandel in the 1991 Star Trek: The Next Generation episode “Disaster,” has spent the latter half of his career becoming a leading figure in faith-based entertainment, founding Christ Over Career, a global movement calling the Church back to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
Drawing from nearly two decades in pastoral ministry with his wife, Arnett said the “Soul Snatchers” story of a family whose ministry becomes a battleground reflected his own testimony. He recalled ministering on the streets of New York City after becoming a Christian, where he witnessed God’s power amid what he described as genuine spiritual darkness.
“We’ve actually seen God answer us miraculously while satanic attack was coming,” he said. “That excited me in my life as a Christian, and I’ve been trying to get the saints to understand the power of God ever since.”
Rather than changing his views on spiritual warfare, Arnett said portraying Emmanuel expanded them by giving audiences a visual picture of biblical truth. Many churches, he emphasized, proclaim God’s supernatural power while living as though miracles belong only to biblical times.
“What I love about filmmaking is that we get to show what truth really is in pictorial form,” he said. “Now we’re able to put in front of people what a supernatural lifestyle looks like. … We have become a people who don’t live that way because we’re afraid to believe that way. Through film, we’re able to bring that to light.”
Arnett said he hopes “Soul Snatchers” has the same cultural impact as “The Forge,” the Kendrick Brothers’ 2024 film on discipleship, which he said inspired churches around the world to launch discipleship ministries.
“I expect to see with ‘Soul Snatchers’ … people say, ‘Wow. This is what I can do. This is who I really am,'” he said. “It is natural to be supernatural.”
Despite the film’s focus on demonic forces, Arnett offered the reminder that many Christians unintentionally give the devil more authority than Scripture allows. The blood of Christ, he stressed, protects a believer from demonic attacks.
“I don’t believe that Satan has that power in my life,” he said. “When I show up, I expect demons fleeing, not attacking. … I think we’ve taught that so wrongly that we’ve given Satan power that he doesn’t have. I’m not even fighting a real foe. I’m the real victor, and I’m shadow boxing a shadow.”
While the story depicts forces attempting to “snatch” souls from God, Arnett said believers are likewise called to rescue souls from darkness.
“We are also going after the souls that Satan has snatched,” he said, revealing he once led a ministry in California called “Soul Snatchers.” “It’s a play on words. We are snatching souls from Hell.”
Arnett said he hopes the thriller will appeal not only to Christian audiences but also to viewers drawn to paranormal stories, giving them a biblical perspective on the unseen world. But more importantly, he wants audiences to leave the theater with a renewed confidence in God’s victory rather than fear of evil.
“I want people to say, ‘I now see my place in it. I now see the power that I have,'” he said. “I now see that I’ve believed the wrong thing, and if I shift my belief system in God, I’ll be able to live the kind of life He intended.”
