International Judo Federation bans Iran over refusal to face Israelis
The International Judo Federation (IFJ) announced on Tuesday that Iran is indefinitely banned from competing in all future competitions due to the country’s discrimination against Israeli players.
The federation said the ban will stay in place until “the Iran Judo Federation gives strong guarantees and prove that they will respect the IJF Statutes and accept that their athletes fight against Israeli athletes.”
Iran does not recognize Israel as a country, calls for its destruction and has for years ordered its athletes never to compete against an Israeli.
The total ban comes after IJF suspended Iran last month for pressuring Iranian-born Saeid Mollaei to deliberately lose at the World Judo Championships Tokyo 2019 in August to avoid competing against Israeli competitor Sagi Muki.
Mollaei was defending his title at the championship. Instead of forfeiting the competition, he defied Tehran and continued fighting.
The federation reported that Mollaei feared for his life after Iran’s deputy minister of sport, threatened his and his family’s lives. IJF Media said that national security officers visited Mollaei’s family home in Iran and threatened them.
“The IJF Executive Committee considered that such a conduct is intolerable,” the federation said.
Mollaei is now hiding in Germany.
The ban is a major blow to Iran because the country’s athletes are among the top in the world in Judo.
The Islamic Republic is expected to appeal the IJF decision at the Court of Arbitration of Sport in Switzerland. Tehran has 21 days to appeal.
The IJF previously said that any disciplinary actions taken against Iran will not apply directly to the 2020 Olympics because athletes are entered by the Iranian Olympic Committee, not the IJE.
However, Iranian judo athletes’ international ranking, and thus their ability to qualify for the Olympics depends heavily on IJF events.
Israel’s Culture Minister Miri Regev praised the ban but regretted “the heavy price Iranian athletes will have to pay because of their regime’s decisions.”

ജൂലൈ മൂന്ന് മുതല്‍ ആഗസ്ത് 25 വരെയാണ് റിയാദ് ബൊളിവാര്‍ഡ് സിറ്റിയില്‍ ഇ-സ്പോര്ട്സ് വേള്‍ഡ് കപ്പ് നടക്കുന്നത്. 90 ദിവസം കാലാവധിയുള്ളതായിരിക്കും ഇ-വിസയെന്ന് അധികൃതര്‍ അറിയിച്ചു. വിസ പ്ലാറ്റ്ഫോമായ സൗദി വിസ വഴി നടപടികള്‍ പൂര്‍ത്തിയാക്കാന്‍ കഴിയും. മുഹമ്മദ് ബിന്‍ സല്‍മാന്‍ രാജകുമാരന്റെ താല്‍പര്യപ്രകാരം ആദ്യമായി രാജ്യത്ത് ഇ-സ്പോര്ട്സ് വേള്‍ഡ് കപ്പിന്റെ മൊത്തം മൂല്യം 60 മില്യണ്‍ ഡോളര്‍ വരുമെന്നാണ് കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നത്. 500ത്തോളം പ്രമുഖ അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര ക്ലബ്ബുകളെ പ്രതിനിധീകരിച്ച് 1,500ലധികം കളിക്കാര്‍ 22 മത്സര ഇനങ്ങളിലായി ടൂര്‍ണമെന്റില്‍ പങ്കെടുക്കും.
ടൂര്‍ണമെന്റിനെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള കൂടുതല്‍ വിവരങ്ങളും അതിന്റെ ഇവന്റുകളുടെ വിശദാംശങ്ങളും ഇ-സ്പോര്ട്സ് ലോകകപ്പ് വെബ്സൈറ്റില്‍ നിന്ന് ലഭിക്കും. 90 ദിവസത്തെ സാധുതയുള്ള സിംഗിള്‍ എന്‍ട്രി വിസ ലഭിക്കുന്നതിന് ഏകീകൃത ദേശീയ വിസ പ്ലാറ്റ്ഫോമായ ”സൗദി വിസ” വഴി ഇ-വിസ അപേക്ഷ സമര്‍പ്പിക്കാം. സൗദി അറേബ്യ ആതിഥേയത്വം വഹിക്കുന്ന എല്ലാ അന്തര്‍ദേശീയ ഇവന്റുകളും വന്‍ വിജയമാക്കുന്നതിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി, ഈ ടൂര്‍ണമെന്റില്‍ പങ്കെടുക്കാന്‍ രാജ്യത്തിലേക്കുള്ള സന്ദര്‍ശകര്‍ക്ക് നടപടിക്രമങ്ങള്‍ സുഗമമാക്കുക എന്ന ലക്ഷ്യത്തോടെയാണ് ഇ-വിസ നല്‍കുന്നതെന്ന് അധികൃതര്‍ അറിയിച്ചു. ഗെയിമിംഗിന്റെയും ഇലക്ട്രോണിക് സ്പോര്‍ട്സിന്റെയും ആഗോള ലക്ഷ്യസ്ഥാനമെന്ന നിലയില്‍ രാജ്യത്തിന്റെ സ്ഥാനം ഉറപ്പിക്കുന്നതിന് ഇ-സ്പോര്ട്സ് ലോകകപ്പ് സഹായകമാവും.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) will distribute a stunning number of Bibles at their Christ-focused camps worldwide this summer.
FCA hosted 1,042 total camps last year in the U.S. and internationally with more than 110,000 campers. The camps are a dedicated place for coaches and athletes to invest in their sport, their team, and — most importantly — their faith.
Athletes not only train in camps for their respective sport but also undergo “spiritual training” that reminds coaches and athletes that their identity and value are found in Christ.
“Pro athletes are some of the most glorified humans today. It’s refreshing to see one point upward giving credit for their success to God. It’s a public reminder that they know that the glory they are given is nothing compared to the glory that God deserves,” wrote FCA on X.
There are six main types of camps, including Sports Camps, Leadership Camps, Coaches Camps, Team Camps, and Partnership Camps.
“FCA Camp gives me the opportunity — especially as an NBA player — to share my faith. A lot of kids don’t get to see that side of professional athletics. So, it was an opportunity for me not only to do that but also to grow spiritually as a Christian, myself,” said NBA Guard Anthony Parker.
Several camps have already begun this summer and will continue throughout June, July, and August.
The organization’s theme for this year is “24/7,” based on Romans 15:13 (CSB): “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
“There are camps happening at this moment, where athletes are hearing about the love of Jesus, possibly for the first time,” said FCA President and CEO Shane Williamson. “This is why we do what we do, and we pray for God’s presence to be life-changing at all of our camps across the world this year.”
The ministry focuses on fostering a coach’s or an athlete’s relationship with Christ. One way they do that is by distributing an FCA Bible to every person who attends the camp.
In 2023 alone, FCA distributed 230,247 Bibles to help coaches and athletes develop a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and His church.
Through these camps, Bible distribution, and other outreach programs, FCA has impacted thousands of athletes and coaches since its founding in 1954.
“Right after college, I was a Huddle Leader (FCA Camp) and that was one of the best experiences of my life. One thing I brought back from camp was a quiet time. We would have it every day. It was like a listening time trying to hear from God, and ever since then I have been doing that,” said WNBA forward Adrian Williams-Strong.
