Singer Mariah Carey Pushes Back on ‘Queen of Christmas’ Label, Gives All the Credit to Jesus’ Mom

Published

on

Singer Mariah Carey is known for chart-topping, top-40 hits and popular Christmas songs, but the “All I Want For Christmas Is You” singer is renouncing the “Queen of Christmas” holiday title many have bestowed upon her.

Carey told the “Zoe Ball Breakfast Show” on the BBC this week that she didn’t create the title and that she believes it belongs to Mary, Jesus’ mother.

“I’m someone that loves Christmas, that happened to be blessed to write All I want For Christmas Is You. And a lot of other Christmas songs,” she said. “And let’s face it, you know, everybody’s faith is what it is. But to me, Mary is the Queen of Christmas.”

“I just want to humbly say that I don’t consider myself that,” she added.

Carey discussed other elements of Christmas and thanked fans who have supported her holiday music along the way.

“I just want to say ‘thank you’ and give love to everybody on Christmas Day,” she added.

Carey is known for an array of Christmas songs, but her “All I Want For Christmas Is You” hit — which was first released in 1994, but remains in the top spot on Billboard’s “Holiday 100” list – is certainly her most popular.

The singer has spoken about faith in the past, proclaiming, “God kept me alive,” a statement made about her oft-times difficult upbringing.

Somali mother of 3 loses home, rejected by husband for accepting Christ after watching ‘Jesus Film’

Published

on

Kenya — A mother of three children in Somalia is struggling to survive after her Muslim relatives drove her from their home and threatened to kill her for accepting Christ, she said.

The 31-year-old woman’s husband recently divorced her following her expulsion from the family homestead in Jamaame village, Kismayo in March, said the mother of children ages 5, 7 and 9.

“I do not regret embracing Christianity; I have great peace in my heart,” the mother, unidentified for security reasons, told Morning Star News. “Issa [Jesus] has been providing for me and the children for the last three months, and I know He will continue providing.”

A Christian worker had shown her and her children the “Jesus Film” on Christmas Eve, she said.

“On January 20, I then decided to surrender my life to the Lordship of Issa, and since that time, I experienced amazing peace in my heart and life,” she told Morning Star News by telephone. “But as I continued watching the film while my husband was doing small business about 100 kilometers (62 miles) away in Lower Juba, I felt the need to share it with my parents.”

On March 1, during Ramadan, she showed the film to her mother. Her mother asked questions that she was unable to answer, so she invited her father to watch the film; the family watched it together on March 4.

“While watching the film on the suffering of Jesus on the cross, I found myself shedding tears and uttering the words, ‘Oh, an innocent Son of God suffering for the sins of humanity,’” she said. “My father was shocked to see me crying and asked why I was crying. He felt troubled with the uttering of Jesus as the Son of God.”

Her father told her that Christ was not the Son of God but only one of the prophets sent by Allah, adding, “The film is misleading and not from God — it is led by the devil.”

When she protested and replied that he was incorrect, he replied, “I have no room for you in my house anymore. Just go away with your children,” she said.

Her father immediately phoned her husband.

“My husband sided with my father that I should go away, and that I should not return to him,” she said.

Her father gave her three months to decide whether to return to Islam and her husband, she said.

“My mother tried to intervene, but my father became more furious and chased me and my mother away,” she said. “After a month, my mother denounced the Christian faith and returned to my father.”

On June 10, she told Morning Star News that her husband had divorced her according to Islamic law.

“When I received a phone call from my husband concerning my faith in Issa, I told him that I am still a believer of Issa as my Lord and Savior,” she said. “My husband then pronounced the Islamic phrase, ‘I divorce you,’ and that was the end of my marriage with him.”

Relatives and other members of the Muslim community have threatened to kill her, she said.

“I have received threatening messages from two of my relatives that it is better that they kill me than I be a Christian, since I have become an apostate and should be killed,” she said.

On June 13, she fled with her children to an area closer to the border with Kenya. Since then, they have been moving from village to village searching for manual work for their daily needs. She said she is in desperate need of financial support to rent a house, cover school fees for her children, and start a small business to support their upkeep.

“My prayer is that Issa, who changed my life, may touch my family too,” she said. “Please, I need the prayers from Christians at this difficult time. If God guides me to reach Kenya, then I am sure my needs and those of the children will be met by Christians living in different parts of the world.”

Somalia’s constitution establishes Islam as the state religion and prohibits the propagation of any other religion, according to the U.S. State Department. It also requires that laws comply with Sharia (Islamic law) principles, with no exceptions in application for non-Muslims.

The death penalty for apostasy is part of Islamic law according to mainstream schools of Islamic jurisprudence. An Islamic extremist group in Somalia, Al Shabaab, is allied with al Qaeda and adheres to the teachings.

Al Shabaab or Al Shabaab sympathizers have also killed several non-local people in northern Kenya since 2011, when Kenyan forces led an African coalition into Somalia against the rebels in response to terrorist attacks on tourists and others on Kenya’s coast.

Somalia is ranked No. 2 on Christian support group Open Doors’ 2025 World Watch List of the 50 countries where it’s most difficult to be a Christian.

Nicole Scherzinger’s Pro-God, Pro-Life Speech Goes Viral After Her Big Tony Award Win

Published

on

Nicole Scherzinger won the Tony Award for Best Lead Actress in a musical for her performance in “Sunset Boulevard.”

However, the former Pussycat Dolls lead singer didn’t just win an award this week, she delivered one of the most pro-life, pro-family, pro-God messages on the Tony Awards stage.

“First of all, I just have to thank God for carrying me every step of the way. I give (Him) all the glory,” she said fighting back tears Sunday night.

“I want to thank my mom, who had me at 18 and gave everything up for me. My dad, my sister, Keala, and my tutu and papa who instilled in me an unshakeable faith.”

During the 78th Tony Awards, Scherzinger shared she was grateful for the opportunity to play Norma Desmond and live out her dream.

“Growing up, I always felt like I didn’t belong. But you all have made me feel like I belong, at last. So if there is anyone out there who feels like they don’t belong, or your time hasn’t come, don’t give up. Just keep on giving and giving because the world needs your love and your light now, more than ever. This is a testament that love always wins.”

“Sunset Boulevard,” which is based on the 1950 film by Billy Wilder, opened in 2023 in London’s West End. The show transferred to Broadway in October.

She wrote on Instagram at the time, “I believe God has a plan for all of us—a plan and a purpose. I believe you just have to listen to the whispers of your heart and trust Him.”

“I see now that this show, and telling Norma’s story, was God’s divine plan for me all along,” Scherzinger continued. “There was a purpose behind all the patience, pain, and pushbacks that have been scattered amongst the beauty of my life so far.”

“It’s funny how God brings you back to your roots and the initial desire He placed on your heart. Theater was where everything started for me,” she added.

The 46-year-old was born in Honolulu, but grew up in Louisville Kentucky, and was brought up Catholic. She reportedly attends church at least twice a week, either in person or online, according to the publication, Women Alive.

“My faith keeps me super grounded,” she told the outlet, adding, “For me, I am very spiritual, so I like to say that God has bigger plans, and a bigger imagination than we could ever [have]. We actually limit ourselves with how we think.'”

Scherzinger says her upbringing instilled in her certain values, including honoring life.

She previously told the Daily Mail that her family is “really hardcore” against abortion because her mother was faced with that decision at the age of 18 when pregnant with Nicole.

Scherzinger shares her convictions are so strong that she nearly turned down the role of “Penny Johnson” in ABC’s remake of “Dirty Dancing,” because she gets an illegal abortion.

Former Pussycat Dolls Singer Kaya Jones Says She’s ‘All In’ on ‘Serving the Lord’ After Baptism

“I got the role and I almost didn’t take it because I didn’t want to promote abortion, because my character has an abortion,” she told the outlet. “But I was like, hopefully, they can learn from you know her ways and I can be a positive influence.”

“My mum got pregnant with me when she was 17 and had me when she was 18. She chose (life),” she continued. “Her parents were never going to let her have an abortion. So I came out, so I just want to, you know, encourage everybody to keep your babies.”

Even with her success in music, TV, and film, Scherzinger has never shied away from her faith, even in the face of criticism.

Right before the presidential election in November, the singer issued an apology for posting a positive comment on Russell Brand’s Instagram post of him wearing a red hat that said “Make Jesus First Again.” Brand captioned the post “God Bless America.”

In a now-deleted comment, Scherzinger wrote, “Where do I get this hat?” along with a prayer hands emoji and a red heart emoji.

Fans criticized her for the comment in support of Brand whose spiritual transformation took place as he was accused of “rape, sexual assaults, and emotional abuse” by five women in a joint investigation by the Sunday Times of London, Variety reports.

Additionally, fans took issue with the hat which is reminiscent of President Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” hats.

Scherzinger issued an apology the next day for “the hurt caused” by her engagement with “some social media posts,” but made clear that her comment was only about the fact that she loves Jesus.

“I made the mistake of not realizing that they could be easily interpreted as being politically related and I apologize to anyone who understandably reached that conclusion,” she wrote on Instagram.

She continued, “If you know me, you know that like so many others, in times of adversity and uncertainty, I turn to my faith. I believed that the posts I engaged with were about encouraging people to choose love and faith — ‘putting Jesus first.’ For me Christ embodies peace, compassion, hope, and above all — unconditional love, especially for those who may feel it the least right now.”

“I come from a place of love, and I will always support values that bring us closer together. It’s so important we come together with compassion, and love one another more now than ever,” Scherzinger concluded.
