Christian singer Breanna Nix hits No. 1 on iTunes country songs chart

Published

on

Breanna Nix, a Christian singer and recent finalist on “American Idol,” has reached the No. 1 spot on Apple’s Country chart with her single “Higher.” The song surged to the top following her third-place finish in the show’s 23rd season.

Nix shared the chart milestone in an Instagram post this week, where she thanked supporters and called the success “just the beginning.”

“Higher,” a cover of Toby Lightman’s original track, currently holds the fourth position on Apple’s overall Country chart, behind entries from Jelly Roll, Blake Shelton and Morgan Wallen.

On the broader Apple Songs chart, “Higher” sits at No. 9, with fellow “Idol” finalist and season winner Jamal Roberts claiming the top spot with his new single, “Heal.”

The 23rd season of “American Idol” concluded Sunday, with Roberts crowned winner and John Foster finishing second. Nix ended the season in third place, becoming the only openly Christian contestant to reach the top three this season.

Her journey through the competition included performances that featured prominent Christian and gospel music, such as “In Jesus Name” by Katy Nichole and “Tell Your Heart to Beat Again” by Danny Gokey.

Throughout the season, Nix regularly referred to her faith in social media updates and on-air appearances.

After reaching the top 10, she expressed distress about online criticism that questioned her religious identity. In a mentoring session aired after her top 10 placement, Nix told mentor Fantasia about the impact of a comment that said she was no longer a Christian. Fantasia, who won season 3 of “American Idol” more than 20 years ago, responded by encouraging her to stay off social media and assured her that faith could remain central to her work.

Nix’s public embrace of faith connected her with other Christian contestants from this season, such as Canaan James Hill, a 17-year-old aspiring preacher who also performed gospel music on the show.

Hill made it to the top 10 but was eliminated before the semifinals. He returned for the finale to perform duets of “Melodies From Heaven” and “Love Theory” with gospel artist Kirk Franklin.

On finale night, Nix joined Roberts and Foster to perform Queen’s “We Are the Champions.” She also delivered a solo performance of Katy Nichole’s “In Jesus Name.” Following the broadcast, Nix expressed her gratitude on Facebook for making it into the top 3, calling the experience “insane” and thanking viewers for their votes.

While Roberts celebrated his win with a performance of Tom Odell’s “Heal” and a message about his gratitude, Nix posted a video predicting his win earlier in the competition. She recorded the video during Hollywood Week and referred to Roberts as “anointed,” congratulating him in advance. In the caption, Nix wrote that she “called it” the day she met him, saying she always believed he would win.

Roberts and Nix have both posted faith-affirming messages following the finale.

Roberts wrote that “God is so good” and credited divine guidance for his journey, from his first audition to his win, noted Church Leaders. Fantasia, who also offered guidance to the finalists, posted a message praising Roberts for staying true to his beliefs during the competition.

Two years ago, Megan Danielle finished second in season 21, and previous winners like Carrie Underwood have also spoken about maintaining Christian beliefs in the entertainment industry. Underwood, who served as a judge this season, has described the difficulty of navigating the music world while openly expressing her faith.

Nix’s single “Higher” joins other Christian and country songs currently charting, including “Hard Fought Hallelujah” by Brandon Lake and Jelly Roll at No. 5 and “Your Way’s Better” by Forrest Frank at No. 8 on the Apple Songs chart.

Nicole Scherzinger’s Pro-God, Pro-Life Speech Goes Viral After Her Big Tony Award Win

Published

on

Nicole Scherzinger won the Tony Award for Best Lead Actress in a musical for her performance in “Sunset Boulevard.”

However, the former Pussycat Dolls lead singer didn’t just win an award this week, she delivered one of the most pro-life, pro-family, pro-God messages on the Tony Awards stage.

“First of all, I just have to thank God for carrying me every step of the way. I give (Him) all the glory,” she said fighting back tears Sunday night.

“I want to thank my mom, who had me at 18 and gave everything up for me. My dad, my sister, Keala, and my tutu and papa who instilled in me an unshakeable faith.”

During the 78th Tony Awards, Scherzinger shared she was grateful for the opportunity to play Norma Desmond and live out her dream.

“Growing up, I always felt like I didn’t belong. But you all have made me feel like I belong, at last. So if there is anyone out there who feels like they don’t belong, or your time hasn’t come, don’t give up. Just keep on giving and giving because the world needs your love and your light now, more than ever. This is a testament that love always wins.”

“Sunset Boulevard,” which is based on the 1950 film by Billy Wilder, opened in 2023 in London’s West End. The show transferred to Broadway in October.

She wrote on Instagram at the time, “I believe God has a plan for all of us—a plan and a purpose. I believe you just have to listen to the whispers of your heart and trust Him.”

“I see now that this show, and telling Norma’s story, was God’s divine plan for me all along,” Scherzinger continued. “There was a purpose behind all the patience, pain, and pushbacks that have been scattered amongst the beauty of my life so far.”

“It’s funny how God brings you back to your roots and the initial desire He placed on your heart. Theater was where everything started for me,” she added.

The 46-year-old was born in Honolulu, but grew up in Louisville Kentucky, and was brought up Catholic. She reportedly attends church at least twice a week, either in person or online, according to the publication, Women Alive.

“My faith keeps me super grounded,” she told the outlet, adding, “For me, I am very spiritual, so I like to say that God has bigger plans, and a bigger imagination than we could ever [have]. We actually limit ourselves with how we think.'”

Scherzinger says her upbringing instilled in her certain values, including honoring life.

She previously told the Daily Mail that her family is “really hardcore” against abortion because her mother was faced with that decision at the age of 18 when pregnant with Nicole.

Scherzinger shares her convictions are so strong that she nearly turned down the role of “Penny Johnson” in ABC’s remake of “Dirty Dancing,” because she gets an illegal abortion.

“I got the role and I almost didn’t take it because I didn’t want to promote abortion, because my character has an abortion,” she told the outlet. “But I was like, hopefully, they can learn from you know her ways and I can be a positive influence.”

“My mum got pregnant with me when she was 17 and had me when she was 18. She chose (life),” she continued. “Her parents were never going to let her have an abortion. So I came out, so I just want to, you know, encourage everybody to keep your babies.”

Even with her success in music, TV, and film, Scherzinger has never shied away from her faith, even in the face of criticism.

Right before the presidential election in November, the singer issued an apology for posting a positive comment on Russell Brand’s Instagram post of him wearing a red hat that said “Make Jesus First Again.” Brand captioned the post “God Bless America.”

In a now-deleted comment, Scherzinger wrote, “Where do I get this hat?” along with a prayer hands emoji and a red heart emoji.

Fans criticized her for the comment in support of Brand whose spiritual transformation took place as he was accused of “rape, sexual assaults, and emotional abuse” by five women in a joint investigation by the Sunday Times of London, Variety reports.

Additionally, fans took issue with the hat which is reminiscent of President Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” hats.

Scherzinger issued an apology the next day for “the hurt caused” by her engagement with “some social media posts,” but made clear that her comment was only about the fact that she loves Jesus.

“I made the mistake of not realizing that they could be easily interpreted as being politically related and I apologize to anyone who understandably reached that conclusion,” she wrote on Instagram.

She continued, “If you know me, you know that like so many others, in times of adversity and uncertainty, I turn to my faith. I believed that the posts I engaged with were about encouraging people to choose love and faith — ‘putting Jesus first.’ For me Christ embodies peace, compassion, hope, and above all — unconditional love, especially for those who may feel it the least right now.”

“I come from a place of love, and I will always support values that bring us closer together. It’s so important we come together with compassion, and love one another more now than ever,” Scherzinger concluded.

Tim Allen Begins Reading New Testament, Reveals Which Book Has Left Him ‘Amazed’

Published

on

Comedian Tim Allen has been reading through the Bible and now he’s onto the book of Romans.

The “Shifting Gears” star said he’s been “amazed” by the Apostle Paul’s letter.

“[I] finished the Old Testament, and it is such a gift when I get out of the way and the words and meaning flow,” he wrote on X. “This week I am now in the book of the Gospel of Paul. A Roman Jew familiar with Plato, Stoicism, and other Greek schools of thought. I am amazed in seven pages!”

Presumably to clear up confusion by what he meant, Allen added in a follow-up post, “Ok specifically reading Apostle Paul’s letter to the Romans.”

In February, the 71-year-old star described reading the Old Testament as “a treasure” and, as CBN News reported at the time, he called it an “overwhelming experience.”

“After nearly a year, I have finished [the] entire Old Testament and the experience of re-reading, dedicated focus, and no drifting has made this a humbling, overwhelming experience,” he wrote on X, adding, “What a treasure.”

Allen has been bringing his fans and supporters along on his Bible-reading journey.

In August of last year, the celebrity — known for his conservative perspective — revealed he was having an “amazing” time reading Scripture and called the discipline “not at all what I was expecting.”

Years ago, during a 2011 appearance on ABC’s “20/20,” Allen told then-host Elizabeth Vargas he struggled with his faith and began to question God’s existence after his father was fatally struck by a drunk driver when the actor was just 11 years old.

But his faith was eventually reborn and now, he told Vargas, he sees God as “the Builder.”

“I always do ask … the Builder, ‘What did You want me to do?’” said Allen. “And I do ask it, but you’ve got to be prepared for the answer.”

Dolly Parton Holds to the Hope of Heaven After Husband’s Death: ‘I’m Going to See Him Again Someday’

Published

on

It’s been three months since Dolly Parton lost her husband of 60 years. The country music legend recently reflected that her steadfast faith in God and the promise of seeing her husband again someday has sustained her through one of the biggest changes in her life.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame honoree spoke openly about her faith in a recent interview with the Associated Press while promoting her new single-serve Southern-inspired frozen meals. She told the outlet that she often misses her husband, Carl Dean, and reflects on many cherished memories.

“I am a person of faith, and I truly believe that I’m going to see him again someday. And I see him every day in my memories and in my heart, and in all the things that we used to do and all the things that we’ve built together,” said Parton. “You just kind of have to learn to kind of make new plans — but that’s the hardest part.”

Parton and Dean had been married for six decades before he passed away in March at the age of 82 in Nashville, Tennessee.

“I really feel his presence,” Parton recently shared. “I just try to go on, because I know I have to. And he was ill for quite a while, and part of me was at peace that he was at peace and not suffering anymore. But that still doesn’t make up for the loss and the loneliness of it.”

The couple’s love story began 62 years ago when they met outside a Wishy Washy Laundromat. Parton was 18 years old and had just moved to Nashville.

“I was surprised and delighted that while he talked to me, he looked at my face (a rare thing for me),” Parton described the meeting. “He seemed to be genuinely interested in finding out who I was and what I was about.”

Two years later and against the advice of her record label, Parton and Dean snuck across state lines to Georgia and got married in a small ceremony in Ringgold on Memorial Day. They hoped to keep the news out of the Tennessee newspapers.

Parton told CBN News in a 2016 interview that her husband was a “God-send.”

“I think my husband and my relationship was just really a God-send,” the 10-time Grammy winner said at the time. “God knew I was going to need somebody like him if I was going to be doing all this crazy stuff.”

Despite staying out of the limelight, Dean has served as the inspiration for her timeless hit “Jolene,” as well as her 2023 “Rockstar” album.

Parton says her husband would be proud of her for continuing her business ventures including the release of her new book in November, “Star of the Show: My Life on Stage,” and bringing “Dolly: An Original Musical,” to Broadway next year.

“I’ve always had dreams and I’m always working,” she shared. “My husband understood that. Carl knew that better than anybody and he was all about it. He was very proud of me. … So when I did lose him, I just thought, well, I’m going to take all of that energy, and I’m just going to put that back into other things, and I’ll keep him ever-present in everything that I do.”
