Trump admin allows federal workers to display Bibles, crucifixes, other religious items

Published

on

WASHINGTON, D.C.— Federal employees must be allowed to display their faith at work, according to a new directive issued Monday by the Trump administration’s Office of Personnel Management (OPM).

Fox News obtained a copy of the memo, which declares that the “Federal workforce should be a welcoming place for Federal employees who practice a religious faith. Allowing religious discrimination in the Federal workplace violates the law. It also threatens to adversely impact recruitment and retention of highly-qualified employees of faith.”

“Employees must be allowed to engage in private religious expression in work areas to the same extent that they may engage in nonreligious private expression,” OPM says. “Agencies may, however, reasonably regulate the time, place and manner of all employee speech, provided such regulations do not discriminate based on content or viewpoint (including religious viewpoints). Agencies may require that employees perform official work while on duty, as opposed to engaging in personal religious observances.”

Examples of protected expression include but are not limited to “bibles, artwork, jewelry, posters displaying religious messages, and other indicia of religion (such as crosses, crucifixes and mezuzahs) on their desks, on their person, and in their assigned workspaces”; and “individual or communal religious expressions.”

Federal workers must also be allowed to engage in “conversations regarding religious topics with fellow employees, including attempting to persuade others of the correctness of their own religious views, provided that such efforts are not harassing in nature”; and to “make religious expressions in their personal capacities in areas accessible to the public.” At the same time, however, when “public employees make statements pursuant to their official duties, they are not speaking as citizens for First Amendment purposes, and the Constitution does not insulate their communications from employer discipline.”

Earlier this month, recently-appointed OPM chief Scott Kupor issued another memo directing agencies to “adopt a generous approach to approving religious accommodations, prioritizing employee needs while maintaining operational efficiency” in matters of religious leave requests and recognizing religious holidays.

“Religious liberty is foundational,” Kupor declared. “No federal employee should be forced to choose between their faith and their federal service.”

The Trump administration has also established a White House Religious Liberty Commission, tasked with “produc[ing] a comprehensive report on the foundations of religious liberty in America, the impact of religious liberty on American society, current threats to domestic religious liberty, strategies to preserve and enhance religious liberty protections for future generations, and programs to increase awareness of and celebrate America’s peaceful religious pluralism”; and “advis[ing] the White House Faith Office and the Domestic Policy Council on religious liberty policies of the United States.”

(Dino Learns Not To Waste Food)

(The Call of the Nether)

A four-year-old Indian-American boy has achieved a record for publishing a book. Advay Jain became the youngest person to publish a book in the male category, according to Guinness World Records.

Advay Jain was born on April 23, 2022, in Monmouth Junction, New Jersey, USA. He is recognised as the youngest person to publish a book (male).

Book Inspired By Preschool
Advay’s book was inspired by lunchtime at his preschool. The idea for the book came from his experiences during lunchtime at preschool. The record was verified in Monmouth Junction, New Jersey, on April 3, 2026.

The official Instagram account of the Consulate General of India shared a post showing the Consul General of India in New York, Binaya Srikanta Pradhan, meeting Advay Jain.

“Consul General Binaya Srikanta Pradhan welcomed 4-year-old Indian-origin author Advay Jain, Guinness World Record holder for being the youngest male to publish a book.”

Consul General of India in New York, Binaya Srikanta Pradhan, congratulated Advay on his achievement.

“Through his book “Dino Learns Not to Waste Food”, Advay inspires young readers to value food and embrace the importance of avoiding food waste,” the post from the Consul General reads.

“Warm congratulations to Advay on this remarkable achievement, and best wishes to Advay and his 12-year-old sister, Ms. Avya, also an author and painter, as they continue to inspire young minds through their creativity and stories,” it added.

In a blow to Indian IT majors, the United States on Thursday suspended several companies from the Permanent Labour Certification Programme, which lets firms apply for green cards for H-1B visa workers, arguing that the practice takes away jobs from Americans. The affected companies include Cognizant, Infosys, Tata, Wipro, and HCL.

US Labour Secretary Keith Sonderling announced the move, which also impacts Western behemoths like Capgemini, Microsoft and Adobe. He was flanked by the head of the US Anti-Fraud Task Force and Vice President JD Vance.

“I am hereby suspending from the Permanent Labour Certification Programme some of the largest IT outsourcing firms in the world, Cognizant, Infosys, Tata, Wipro, HCL, and Capgemini,” Sonderling said.

He said the US government will not accept “any new or process” any pending permanent labour certification applications involving these companies.

“Since 2009, just these companies alone have requested almost three million foreign workers. They’ve received over 230,000 H-1B visa approvals and over 100,000 permanent labour certifications,” Sonderling added.

He accused these companies of taking away hundreds of thousands of jobs from American workers.

The programme allows employers to sponsor foreign workers for permanent employment and residency.

Vance slammed Microsoft, calling it a company that abused the system the most.

“Microsoft laid off 6,000 American workers in 2025 after certifying that it could not find qualified American employees – yet the company was approved for more than 6,000 H-1Bs and filed 3,682 PERM applications, including nearly 1,000 applications for the same positions as the laid-off American workers,” the vice president said.

Indian IT professionals bag the lion’s share of the approved H-1B visa applications every year. As part of its larger crackdown against immigration to the US to save American jobs, the Donald Trump administration has been taking measures to make it difficult for companies to hire cost-effective talent from India and other South Asian nations on these temporary visas.

Last month, the Trump administration extended an executive order that would impose a fee of $100,000 for H-1B non-immigrant visas by another year.

JD Vance today called foreign workers hired on H1-B visas “foreign indentured servants” and the companies using the programme as “visa mills”.

He also claimed that “something weird” is underway in universities that sponsor research scholars through the J-1 visa programme.

“Something weird is going on at these universities. They’re using these visas way too much. They’re using them to undercut the wages of American grad students and American researchers,” Vance said.

“This is a fundamental insult to the American worker and to the American way of life. We cannot allow visa programs that were designed to ensure that American corporations had access to the best and the brightest, to use them to undercut the wages of American workers,” he added.

Vance accused the firms, chiefly Microsoft, of subverting due process. He claimed the rules require companies to advertise jobs in America before applying to the Department of Labour that they need foreign workers.

“They’ll put an advertisement in a small-town newspaper. They’ll go out there and say that ‘We have advertised for a position with our company, and nobody is responding to it.’ And they will use that lack of response to then go and replace American workers with what is effectively foreign indentured servants,” he claimed.

NASSCOM Reacts
Industry body NASSCOM said Indian technology companies have reduced their dependence on H-1B visas.

“While the decision affects a specific immigration pathway, NASSCOM has consistently maintained that immigration and skilled talent mobility are two distinct issues and should not be viewed through the same lens,” it said in a statement.

“The H-1B visa programme has historically played an important role in addressing short-term skill gaps in the U.S., and it will continue to be used to address short-term talent gaps. However, over a number of years, Indian technology companies have significantly reduced their dependence on H-1B visas, while steadily expanding local hiring and building a strong domestic workforce in the U.S. They work with majority of the US fortune 500 companies, enable them to innovate and grow, and generate more local jobs,” it added.
