Prime Video has renewed the biblical drama “House of David” for a third season after the series attracted more than 40 million viewers worldwide, the streaming service announced Friday.
The series, produced by Wonder Project and Amazon MGM Studios, debuted earlier this year and follows the rise of the biblical King David. Seasons 1 and 2 are available on Prime Video, with Wonder Project also offering the series through its subscription service.
Season 3 will chronicle one of the most pivotal periods in David’s life, focusing on his years as a fugitive before ascending to Israel’s throne.
“We are incredibly grateful to fans around the world who have embraced House of David,” creators and executive producers Jon Erwin and Jon Gunn said in a statement provided to The Christian Post.
According to the official synopsis, the new season follows David’s transformation “from outcast shepherd to fierce warrior” as he’s forced into exile before ultimately becoming king. The season will explore the sacrifices, betrayals and personal struggles that precede his rise to the thron.
Kelly Merryman Hoogstraten, CEO of Wonder Project, said the renewal aligns with the company’s goal of building long-running franchises centered on inspirational stories.
“At Wonder Project, we’re committed to building enduring franchises rooted in timeless stories that inspire, entertain and bring audiences together,” Merryman Hoogstraten said. “We’re grateful to Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios for their continued partnership and shared belief in that vision, and we’re excited to continue the journey with a third season of House of David.”
Kara Smith, head of drama at Amazon MGM Studios, credited the show’s global audience for the renewal.
“House of David has resonated with audiences around the world, bringing this timeless story to life with breathtaking scope and emotional authenticity,” Smith said. “With millions of viewers captivated by the series, we are thrilled to continue this journey with our partners at Wonder Project for a third season.”
Ahead of Season 2’s premiere in March, Gunn told The Christian Post the series’ success demonstrated growing demand for faith-based entertainment that has both cinematic excellence and authentic storytelling.
“‘House of David’ was the show we were building to launch the platform,” Gunn said at the time. “And I think it’s a testament to the hunger for content that is inspiring and something you can watch with your family.”
Gunn said Wonder Project has sought to distinguish itself through what it calls “epic authenticity,” stressing that audiences can recognize when stories are driven by conviction and a love for the Scriptures. Both Erwin and Gunn are professing Christians.
“The purity is what makes it work,” he said. “Studios often try to duplicate authenticity, but it doesn’t have the soul.”
Michael Iskander, who stars as David, told CP that portraying the biblical king was a transformative experience. The actor, who converted to Catholicism last year, said the role deepened his own faith while preparing him for David’s journey from shepherd to warrior and future king.
“David is everything to me,” Iskander told The Christian Post. “He’s changed my life. I don’t think that relationship will ever be severed.”
The 24-year-old actor said he underwent extensive physical training for Season 2, gaining 15 pounds and learning sword fighting to portray David’s growth as a warrior. He also said he hopes viewers see David’s flaws and repentance as reminders that “God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called.”
Season 2 stars Iskander alongside Ali Suliman as King Saul, Ayelet Zurer as Queen Ahinoam and Stephen Lang as the prophet Samuel. The ensemble cast also includes Indy Lewis, Yali Topol Margalith, Ethan Kai, Sam Otto, Oded Fehr, Louis Ferreira, Davood Ghadami, Ashraf Barhom and Alexander Uloom.

Mel Gibson is calling on churches to pray as he prepares to bring one of the most important moments in human history to the big screen.
In a special video message to Pastor Samuel Rodriguez and members of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, Gibson offered a new glimpse into the spiritual weight surrounding his highly anticipated film, “The Resurrection of the Christ Part One,” which is scheduled to hit theaters May 6, 2027.
“I’m so grateful to all of you and can’t wait for you to see ‘The Resurrection of the Christ Part One’ in theaters May 6, 2027,” Gibson said.
But Gibson’s message wasn’t simply about promoting a movie. He issued a direct request to the church: Pray.
“Please prepare your churches to pray for us as we get ready to release the film in theaters next May,” Gibson said. “And thank you for all your prayers and support in leading your churches to ‘The Resurrection of the Christ’. God bless.”
Gibson also revealed that Rodriguez was with him in Italy during production, where he got a firsthand look at the work in progress.
“Pastor Samuel was with me on set in Italy during production, and he saw firsthand the epic scale of what we’re putting together,” Gibson said.
The video also included powerful statements about the potential spiritual impact of Gibson’s latest project, with Cardinal Gerhard Ludwig Müller declaring that the filmmaker is “preaching the gospel with this modern means.”
“’The Resurrection of the Christ’ is not just a film,” the Rev. Franklin Graham said in the video. “This is the greatest event in history, and it’s being recreated right here so you can see it.”
Graham expressed hope that the movie “will touch the lives of millions of people,” while another described Christ’s resurrection as the very source of the church’s life.
More than two decades after “The Passion of the Christ” brought Jesus’ crucifixion to audiences around the world, Gibson is now preparing to tell what happened next.
The message of this next chapter is unmistakable: The resurrection is not simply the end of a biblical story. It is the foundation of the Christian faith.
As Pastor Samuel Rodriguez declared, “This right here, this is the exclamation point of Christianity.”

Grammy-winning Southern Gospel singer Guy Penrod disclosed Monday he is facing a “serious” health diagnosis and is in need of divine healing.
Penrod, 63, shared limited details about his health during a livestream with fellow Gaither Vocal Band alumnus Mark Lowry.
“This is not something that can be healed,” the recording artist said, meaning there are very limited medical interventions that could successfully treat the diagnosis. “It’s serious. It’s blood stuff in the bones and [has to do with] producing blood.”
While he has not yet disclosed what he’s facing, Penrod and his wife, Angie, “aren’t freaked out” and “are not casting a net of fear.”
“We all serve the same God,” he said. “I’m not the guy that likes to hide away, for the most part. The trouble or difficulty we’re going through, I’d just as soon have a team of warriors like you praying and call[ing] on God and bringing my name up to Him.”
Lowry, 68, interrupted Penrod to suggest they pray right then for the Lord “to touch and heal our brother Guy.”
“Father, thank You so much for Guy Penrod,” prayed Lowry. “Thank You for all he has meant to my life all these years. Lord, You know more than the doctors do about his situation, and nothing ever takes You by surprise. Father, will You touch Your son and heal him from the top of his head to the sole of his feet, Lord? Would You fix whatever needs to be fixed? Would You guide the doctors’ minds? Would You give them supernatural wisdom? Lord, would You put Your warring angels and Your healing angels all around us right now, Lord, to protect and to touch Guy, Lord Jesus?”
Penrod, for his part, brought up the account in Matthew 8:1-4, when Jesus healed the man with leprosy:
Large crowds followed Jesus as he came down the mountainside. Suddenly, a man with leprosy approached him and knelt before him. “Lord,” the man said, “if you are willing, you can heal me and make me clean.”
Jesus reached out and touched him. “I am willing,” he said. “Be healed!” And instantly the leprosy disappeared. Then Jesus said to him, “Don’t tell anyone about this. Instead, go to the priest and let him examine you. Take along the offering required in the law of Moses for those who have been healed of leprosy. This will be a public testimony that you have been cleansed” (NLT).
The “Then Came the Morning” singer began praying for whatever health issues those watching the livestream might be facing.
“Father, we pray for our brothers and sisters as they walk the road of life and they deal with what comes at them,” he said. “May Your Spirit encourage, uplift, heal, deliver, strengthen, provide [for] all the needs that are represented here. Provide for all of them, Father. We know that You don’t need. You don’t need. You say that ‘I’m here for You.’ Isn’t that amazing? He just says, ‘The thing that makes me happiest is meeting all of your needs and seeing you whole and healthy and well.’ So thank You. We receive that, Jesus. Give us a fresh dose of Your love for us, because we know that, by understanding that, it produces the byproduct of good fruit. Thank you for it. And we receive Your love today, Jesus. We say, ‘Thank you.’ Amen.”
