Apple to Announce Shutdown of iTunes
It’s the end of an era.
Almost 20 years after first launching iTunes, Apple is reportedly going to retire the product, according to Bloomberg. The business news site reports that that the tech giant will announce the news at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference in San Jose, California on June 3.
For two decades, iTunes has been the way for Apple users to purchase and listen to music and pocasts, plus watch TV shows, movies, and backup or manage their devices.
The company is reportedly launching three standalone apps for Mac users instead: Music, TV, and Podcasts will each individually replace iTunes. Now, if you already have Apple devices, then you know that the iPhone, iPad, and iPod already have those separate apps.
According to Rolling Stone, users can expect the new Music app to offer the same functions that iTunes did, like syncing phones and buying songs.
It’s also rumored that Apple is making this move in order to brand itself as more than just a hardware and software company but an entertainment services provider, too. In March, Oprah announced that she was teaming up with Prince Harry to produce a documentary series about mental illness and wellness for the Apple TV+ streaming service. At the same event, Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon also gave more details about their upcoming drama series, The Morning Show, which will be premiering on Apple TV+.
“We pull back the curtain on the power dynamics between men and women in the high stakes world of morning news shows,” Witherspoon said of what to expect from the show.
All of these new projects do help fuel the rumors that Apple is indeed rebranding.
We are admittedly a little sad to see iTunes go. After all, it was the app that so many of us have used over the years to listen to our favorite jams and binge the best of TV and movies. But we’re also excited for the future of the giant tech company—and to see what Lady O will be cooking up!

90 കോടി പ്രതിമാസ സജീവ ഉപഭോക്താക്കളുണ്ട് ടെലഗ്രാമിന്. രാഷ്ട്രീയത്തില്‍ പങ്കാളിയാകാതെ നിഷ്പക്ഷ പ്ലാറ്റ്ഫോമായി ടെലഗ്രാം തുടരുമെന്ന് ടെലഗ്രാം സ്ഥാപകനായ പാവെല്‍ ദുരോവ് പറഞ്ഞു. ഫോര്‍ബ്സിന്റെ കണക്കനുസരിച്ച് 1550 കോടിയുടെ ആസ്തിയുള്ള വ്യവസായിയാണ് പാവെല്‍ ദുരോവ്.
ടെലഗ്രാമിന്റെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ എതിരാളിയാണ് മെറ്റ പ്ലാറ്റ്ഫോംസിന്റെ വാട്സാപ്പ്. 200 കോടിയിലേറെ സജീവ ഉപഭോക്താക്കളാണ് ആഗോളതലത്തില്‍ വാട്സാപ്പിനുള്ളത്.
