Russia prepares for devastating war; 30,000 more troops cross border; Ukraine shocked

Thirty thousands of Russian troops massing near the Ukrainian border, convoys of tanks, and a deadly escalation in the grinding trench war in eastern Ukraine.
These storm clouds on Europe’s eastern flank are causing grave alarm in Washington and across the continent.
“We’re now seeing the largest concentration of Russian forces on Ukraine’s borders since 2014,” Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Tuesday after flying to NATO’s headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. “That is a deep concern not only to Ukraine, but to the United States.”
In a call with Russian President Vladimir Putin later in the day, President Joe Biden declared Washington’s “unwavering commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity” and “called on Russia to de-escalate tensions,” a White House readout said.
Western officials and experts are now trying to decipher what Moscow might be planning: Is Putin testing Biden’s mettle — or is he actually trying to spark a fresh military conflict on the fringes of Europe?
“The optimistic assessment is that this is meant to intimidate Ukraine,” said Michael Kofman, a senior research scientist at CNA, a research group based in Virginia. “The pessimistic assessment, which I think is a lower probability but nonetheless very worth considering, is that Russia is actually spoiling for a fight and that they’re looking to bait Ukraine into a miscalculation.”
Russia and Ukraine have been locked in conflict since 2014, when Russia annexed Ukraine’s Crimea peninsula and began supporting separatists in the country’s east. That war has rumbled on ever since, costing some 14,000 lives despite a series of shaky ceasefires.
But since March experts say they are witnessing something new.
Russia has started sending thousands of troops, tanks, artillery and other units to Crimea and regions along its 1,200-mile land border with Ukraine, according to Western governments and independent experts who monitor these maneuvers.

The Russian troops number 40,000 in Crimea and another 40,000 in other regions along the border, Iuliia Mendel, spokeswoman for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said Monday.
Given that the Russian military has an estimated 800,000 to 900,000 troops, “that would be approximately 10 percent of the Russian military’s total manpower,” according to Rob Lee, a former U.S. Marine who now tracks military deployments at the Department of War Studies at King’s College London.
Russia says these movements are “training missions,” Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said Tuesday. But experts say they don’t fit the usual pattern for these wargames. Russian military officials haven’t provided the usual level of detail or forewarning.
“They are deliberately leaving their intentions ambiguous here,” Lee said.
Meanwhile, the fragile ceasefire that’s kept the Donbas conflict at a simmer has deteriorated, with more than 30 Ukrainian soldiers killed already this year, compared with 49 in 2020, Ukraine says.
In response, U.S. European Command has raised its threat level to the highest available, the New York Times reported. And it is planning to send two warships to the Black Sea, according to Turkey, which controls passage into it. Pentagon spokesman John Kirby declined to comment on both of these actions at recent briefings.
“If Russia acts recklessly,” Blinken told NBC News’ “Meet the Press” Sunday, “there will be consequences.”
After meeting Blinken on Tuesday, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said the “Russian buildup is taking place, not only along the border of Ukraine, but along the border of democratic world.”
The problem for these allies is that it is still unclear what Russia is trying to do — much less how the West might be able to respond.
“The force assembled is large and heavy and could go deep and do some ugly stuff to Ukraine,” said Vladimir Frolov, a former Russian diplomat. Is that what Russia intends to do? “I think an honest answer to your question would be: ‘I have no idea,'” he said.
Russia says it’s free to move troops internally however it likes.
“Russia has never been a threat to anyone and does not pose a threat,” Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, told reporters Monday.
The Kremlin has tried to turn the narrative on its head, accusing the U.S. and NATO of being the ones responsible for raising the temperature.
“There is absolutely nothing for American ships to be doing near our shores,” Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told Russian news wires. “We warn the United States that it will be better for them to stay far away from Crimea and our Black Sea coast. It will be for their own good.”
Ryabkov referred to the U.S. as an “adversary” — a word the U.S. uses to describe Russia, but a clear shift from Russia’s preferred term “partner” when referring to the U.S.
Many experts believe a Russian military offensive is not impossible but unlikely; it would be costly for Putin and it’s unclear what he would gain. The buildup has been slow and ostentatious, whereas a genuine invasion would be rapid and more covert.
More likely, according to these observers, is that Russia is attempting to intimidate Ukraine, perhaps to gain leverage in the stalled peace talks over the Donbas conflict.
Putin is also sending a message to Biden and Ukraine’s European allies, according to Fabrice Pothier, a consulting senior fellow at the International Institute for Strategic Studies, a London think tank.
Biden has deployed harsher rhetoric toward Putin compared with President Donald Trump, and last month the U.S. announced $125 million in military aid to Ukraine. Meanwhile, Ukraine is renewing calls to join NATO, something the alliance promised in 2008 but is vehemently opposed by Russia.
“Putin is testing what President Biden’s Russia-Ukraine policy is really made of,” said Pothier, NATO’s former head of policy planning. “Is the U.S. willing to go as far as providing either indirect or direct military support to Ukraine forces? Basically, is the U.S. willing to go into some kind of escalation with Russia?”

72-Hour Revival at Baylor Leads to 20+ Baptisms: ‘A Compelling Invitation to Know Jesus’

The flames of revival are being felt again on the campus of Baylor University in Waco, Texas where students participated this week in 72 hours of continuous prayer and worship, leading to the baptisms of 20 people Wednesday night.
What some have referred to as a potential new Great Awakening in US history started on the campus of Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky in February, where thousands of Christians gathered for two weeks of Spirit-led worship, prayer, and repentance. Since then, the outpouring has spread around the country, especially among young people.
Baylor’s Office of Spiritual Life in partnership with multiple campus ministries and local churches, hosted FM72, a gathering of college students for 72 hours of continuous prayer March 19-22, on Fountain Mall.
The theme for this year’s event was “Lord, teach us to pray” (Luke 11:1).
Greg Gordon, the founder of SermonIndex.net tweeted a video of Baylor students praying during the event, writing: “72 hours of prayer & worship in the heart of campus on Baylor University. 20 water baptized last night. The hunger for God is palpable in this younger generation. ‘I believe we are on the edge of a great move of God.’ – John Bevere”
“The purpose of FM72 is to stir a passion for Jesus Christ in the Baylor community,” Charles Ramsey, Ph.D., associate chaplain and director for Campus Ministries at Baylor said in a statement. “It is a time to take inventory of one’s own journey, to linger in prayer, and to recalibrate towards what is most important: our shared faith in Jesus Christ.”
“Simply put, the goal is that every person experiences a clear, caring, and compelling invitation to know Jesus, and to find a discipleship community where they can grow and flourish,” Ramsey added.
The first FM72 was held on the Baylor campus in the spring of 2019.
The private Christian university also tweeted out a video showing highlights of the event.
Baylor also shared photos of some of the baptisms.
FM72 is not the first revival event at Baylor. In 1945, Baylor students prayed for renewal for 90 days, and the impact of it was felt worldwide, igniting ministries like the Passion Conference and Journeyman Mission program.
FM72 is a reminder of what we yearn for, of spiritual promises yet to be fulfilled. Students become mindful of what God has done in the past, and hopeful that they too can carry forward the torch that is entrusted to them,” Ramsey said. “As I heard one student pray, ‘Lord, we ask for a forest fire not a grass fire.’ That is a movement that will transform the trajectory of this generation from being one trapped by anxiety and fear, and instead released to the wide-open spaces of joy and freedom in Christ and experiencing the delightful surprise of the peace and presence of the Holy Spirit.”
Meanwhile, a big opportunity for revival is coming to the campus of the University of Oklahoma.
As CBN News reported, evangelist Nick Hall reported his Pulse ministry has “booked the 86,000-seat football stadium at the University of Oklahoma for the largest student-led outreach I have ever heard of.”
The “Fill The Stadium” event is scheduled for April 19 at the Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium on the OU campus in Norman, Oklahoma. You can find more information about the event here.
Hope California Hopes to Fill 10 Stadiums
A major movement is also underway for California with 10 stadium-style events planned across the region on April 1st and Palm Sunday.
It’s called “Hope California” and the mission is to bring “the Golden State” back to God.
“Hope California” was birthed out a statewide 40-Day Fast organized by Lou Engle and Mando Matthews. God gave Matthews a vision for the 10 cities. Now he says, “We are going after the Harvest.”
It’s a big vision that covers 7 cities in California and 3 in the Baja region – expecting to bring in thousands who want to give their lives to Jesus.
Louisiana Revival Now in 20th Week
As CBN News also reported earlier this month, a four-day revival event at a local church in Hammond, Louisiana last year has blossomed into a multi-week of revival, and it shows no signs of stopping.
The revival is now in its 20th week, according to Brian Lester of the Voice of Hope Ministries. So far, an estimated 25,000 to 30,000 people have attended the Louisiana revival.
As the revival continues, prayer services are scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Full worship services are scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays under the blue tent.

Franklin Graham Praises DeSantis For Drag Show Kid Crackdown: ‘Doesn’t Mess Around’

Evangelist Franklin Graham recently praised Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) for taking a tough stand against children exposed to drag queen events.
“Governor Ron DeSantis doesn’t mess around,” Graham wrote last week on his Facebook page.” He’s revoking the liquor license of a major Miami hotel because they hosted a drag queen show with children present, even after being warned.”
The evangelist, who heads the Christian relief organization Samaritan’s Purse and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, noted what DeSantis’ office said about such events.
“Sexually explicit content is not appropriate to display to children and doing so violates Florida law,” the governor’s office proclaimed. “Governor DeSantis stands up for the innocence of children in the classroom and throughout Florida.”
Graham praised these sentiments, thanking DeSantis for his decision to “stand up” on the matter.
“It’s so refreshing to see a leader who is willing to stand up for what is right!” Graham wrote. “May God bless and help him as he leads this state.”
The preacher tweeted a similar sentiment in December.
“I like [the governor] because he’s not afraid to stand up against the woke agenda that the left is pushing,” he wrote. “He stood up against Disney [and] now he’s standing up against the sexualization of children at a Christmas Drag Queen event. God bless you Gov[.] DeSantis!”
Graham is no stranger to making proclamations about cultural and political events.
As CBN’s Faithwire recently noted, Graham said Christians today need “wisdom” to navigate our ever-chaotic political culture, noting he isn’t interested in telling others how to vote.
“I don’t want to tell people how to vote or not vote,” Graham said. “I might share with somebody how I’m going to vote, but … what we need to do, be honest with you, is just ask God [to] give us wisdom.”
He encouraged fellow Christians to vote for candidates with “Godly principles” and a moral stand.
“We should vote for candidates that believe in God, that believe in Jesus Christ, that’s what we need,” Graham said, noting he knows not everyone will be a born-again Christian.
