മതം മാറിയവർക്ക് ഉപജാതി സംവരണം നൽകില്ല: പിന്നാക്ക കമ്മീഷൻ ചെയർമാൻ

ക്രിസ്തുമതത്തിൽ ചേർന്നവർക്ക് ഉപജാതി സംവരണം ലഭിക്കില്ലെന്ന് സംസ്ഥാന പിന്നാക്ക വിഭാഗ കമ്മീഷൻ ചെയർമാൻ മധുസൂദനൻ ആൻ നായ്ക് വ്യക്തമാക്കി. ക്രിസ്ത്യാനികൾക്ക് ഉപജാതി സംവരണം നൽകുന്നതിനെതിരെ ബംഗളൂരിൽ മുതിർന്ന ബിജെപി നേതാക്കൾ വട്ടമേശ സമ്മേളനം ചേരുകയും ഈ ആവശ്യം ഉന്നയിച്ച് ഗവർണർക്ക് നിവേദനം സമർപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്ത സാഹചര്യത്തിലാണ് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ഈ വിശദീകരണം. മതം മാറിയവരെ ക്രിസ്ത്യാനികളായി മാത്രമേ പരിഗണിക്കൂ എന്നും അതിന്റെ അടിസ്ഥാനത്തിൽ സംവരണം നൽകില്ലെന്നും ചെയർമാൻ മാധ്യമങ്ങളോട് പറഞ്ഞു. ‘മറ്റ് ഒരു സമുദായത്തിന്റെയും താൽപര്യങ്ങൾക്ക് ഇത് ദോഷം വരുത്തില്ല.

ക്രിസ്തുമതത്തിലേക്ക് പരിവർത്തനം ചെയ്തവർ അവരുടെ യഥാർഥ വേരുകൾ നിലനിർത്താൻ ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നു. വിവിധ കാരണങ്ങളാൽ അവർ അവരുടെ യഥാർഥ ഐഡന്റിറ്റി നിലനിർത്താൻ ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നു. ജാതി സർവേ എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന സാമൂഹിക-സാമ്പത്തിക, വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ സർവേയിൽ അവരെ ഉൾപ്പെടുത്തുന്നത് നിരസിക്കാൻ കഴിയില്ല,’ അദ്ദേഹം പറഞ്ഞു. ‘മുമ്പ് പിന്തുടർന്നിരുന്ന രീതി ഞങ്ങൾ തുടരുകയാണ്. ക്രിസ്തുമതത്തിനുള്ളിൽ ഉപജാതികളെ തരംതിരിക്കുന്നതിൽ ഒരു ദോഷവുമില്ല. സർവേ പൂർത്തിയായിക്കഴിഞ്ഞാൽ, അവരുടെ സാമൂഹികവും വിദ്യാഭ്യാസപരവുമായ നില വിലയിരുത്തപ്പെടും.

ഇത് പൂർണ്ണമായും ഡോക്യുമെന്റേഷൻ ആവശ്യങ്ങൾക്കായി മാത്രമാണ് ചെയ്യുന്നത്, മറ്റ് ഉദ്ദേശ്യങ്ങളൊന്നുമില്ല. മതം മാറിയ ആളുകളെ ക്രിസ്ത്യാനികളായി മാത്രമേ പരിഗണിക്കൂ. ഇതിന്റെ അടിസ്ഥാനത്തിൽ സംവരണം നൽകില്ല,’ അദ്ദേഹം കൂട്ടിച്ചേർത്തു.

മുൻ കാന്തരാജു കമ്മീഷൻ റിപ്പോർട്ടിലും ക്രിസ്ത്യൻ ഉപജാതികളെക്കുറിച്ച് പരാമർശിച്ചിരുന്നു. ഇത് നിഷേധിക്കാൻ ഞങ്ങൾക്ക് കഴിയില്ല. അവർക്ക് അവസരങ്ങൾ നൽകണം. ബ്രാഹ്മണ ക്രിസ്ത്യാനികളുണ്ട്. ഇതിൽ ആളുകൾ അസ്വസ്ഥരാണെന്ന് അവകാശപ്പെട്ടാലോ? വർഗ്ഗീകരണം സംവരണത്തെ ഒരു തരത്തിലും ബാധിക്കില്ല, മധുസൂദനൻ ആൻ നായ്ക് വ്യക്തമാക്കി. അതേസമയം, ജാതി സെൻസസ് ഫോർമാറ്റിൽ ക്രിസ്ത്യൻ സമൂഹത്തോടൊപ്പം വൊക്കലിംഗ ക്രിസ്ത്യൻ, ലിംഗായത്ത് ക്രിസ്ത്യൻ, കുറുബ ക്രിസ്ത്യൻ തുടങ്ങിയ 47 ഉപജാതികളെ തരംതിരിക്കുന്നതിനെ ബിജെപിയും വിവിധ ഹിന്ദു സംഘടനകളും ശക്തമായി എതിർത്തു.

ഭാവി നടപടികൾ തീരുമാനിക്കുന്നതിനായി നേതാക്കൾ ചൊവ്വാഴ്ച ബംഗളൂരിലെ ഒരു സ്വകാര്യ ഹോട്ടലിൽ വട്ടമേശ സമ്മേളനം നടത്തി. ക്രിസ്ത്യൻ സമൂഹത്തിലെ ഹിന്ദു ഉപജാതികളുടെ വർഗ്ഗീകരണം ഉപേക്ഷിക്കണമെന്ന് ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ട് സംസ്ഥാനത്തെ കുറഞ്ഞത് 10 ജില്ലകളിലെങ്കിലും വലിയ യോഗങ്ങൾ നടത്താൻ ബിജെപിയും മറ്റ് സംഘടനകളും തീരുമാനിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. മത സന്യാസിമാരും ഈ പ്രചാരണത്തിൽ പങ്കുചേരുമെന്ന് അറിയിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.

Responding to the BJP’s claims that the categorisation of castes within the Christian community in the caste census would encourage religious conversion, the Chairman of the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes, Madhusudhan R. Naik, defended the move and clarified that it would not harm the interests of any other community as the converted people will be considered as Christians only, no reservation will be provided on this basis.

Speaking to the media in Bengaluru on Tuesday, Madhusudhan Naik stated, “Those who converted to Christianity want to retain their original roots. They wish to retain their original identity for various reasons. It is not possible to refuse their inclusion in the Socio-Economic and Educational Survey, popularly known as the caste survey.”

“We have continued the practice followed earlier. There is no harm in categorising sub-castes within Christianity. Once the survey is completed, their social and educational status will be assessed. It is done purely for documentation purposes and carries no other intention. The converted people will be considered as Christians only. No reservation will be provided on this basis,” Madhusudhan Naik added.

“The Christian sub-castes were mentioned in the previous Kantaraju Commission report as well. We cannot deny this, and opportunities should be given to them. There are Brahmin Christians — what if people claim to be offended by this? The categorisation will not impact reservations in any manner,” he stated.

Meanwhile, BJP and various Hindu outfits have strongly opposed the categorisation of 47 sub-castes such as Vokkaliga Christian, Lingayat Christian, Kuruba Christian and others along with Christian community in the caste census format. The leaders are holding a roundtable conference in Bengaluru on Tuesday at a private hotel to chalk out the future course of action.

The BJP and other organisations have decided to hold massive meetings in at least 10 districts of the state to demand dropping of categorisation of Hindu sub-castes in the Christian community. The religious seers are also joining the campaign.

Earlier, responding to BJP’s accusations of encouraging religious conversion through categorisation of castes within the Christian community in the caste census, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had stated, “If there was equality and equal opportunities in Hindu society, would religious conversions happen?”

CM Siddaramaiah clarified that if anyone has undergone religious conversion, only their current caste will be considered.

He asked why, if there was equality and equal opportunity in Hindu society, would religious conversions happen. “How did untouchability come into practice? Have we created untouchability?” the CM questioned.

It can be recalled that questioning the categorisation of castes within the Christian community by the Karnataka government, the state BJP demanded that the government provide immediate answers on whether there are multiple castes in Christian community.

The Opposition party’s chief whip in the Legislative Council and BJP MLC N. Ravikumar questioned whether castes such as Kuruba Christian, Lingayat Christian, Maratha Christian, Balija Christian, Madar Christian, Okkalig Christian, Banjara Christian, Bovi Christian exist, and stated that 47 new castes have been created this time.

“Are there multiple castes in the Christian community? The government should provide an immediate clarification in this regard,” Ravikumar demanded.

Ravikumar sarcastically added that perhaps the Christians themselves are not aware of these 47 new castes.

The Karnataka government announced that a comprehensive Socio-Economic and Educational survey will be held between September 22 and October 7, during the Dusshera holidays. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday made an appeal to all citizens of Karnataka to actively participate in the comprehensive survey, scheduled from September 22 to October 7, 2025.

കോഴിക്കോട്: ഇന്ത്യൻ എംബസികളുമായി വേഗത്തിൽ ബന്ധപ്പെടാനുള്ള സംവിധാനം സാധാരണക്കാർക്ക് ഒരുക്കാൻ പ്രവാസി മലയാളികളുടെ ക്ഷേമം സംബന്ധിച്ച നിയമസഭാ സമിതി യോഗത്തിൽ തീരുമാനമായി. പ്രവാസികൾ അവധിക്കായി നാട്ടിലെത്തുന്ന ചെറിയ ഇടവേളകളിൽ ആധാർ കാർഡ്, തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് തിരിച്ചറിയൽ കാർഡ് തുടങ്ങിയവയുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട അപേക്ഷകൾ വേഗത്തിൽ തീർപ്പാക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള നടപടികൾ സ്വീകരിക്കുമെന്ന് കളക്ടർ എം.എസ്. മാധവിക്കുട്ടി സമിതിയെ അറിയിച്ചു.

പ്രവാസി ക്ഷേമനിധി പെൻഷൻ മുടങ്ങിക്കിടക്കുന്നതുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട പ്രശ്നങ്ങൾ, പെൻഷൻ ലഭിക്കുന്നതിലെ കാലതാമസം, ക്ഷേമനിധി അംഗത്വത്തിനുള്ള അപേക്ഷകൾ സമയബദ്ധമായി തീർപ്പാക്കാത്തത് തുടങ്ങിയ വിഷയങ്ങളുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട പരാതികൾ വിവിധ പ്രവാസി സംഘടനാ പ്രതിനിധികൾ യോഗത്തിൽ ഉന്നയിച്ചു. നോർക്ക സാന്ത്വനം പദ്ധതിവഴി നിലവിൽ നൽകിവരുന്ന 50,000 രൂപയുടെ ചികിത്സാസഹായം വർധിപ്പിക്കണമെന്നും ചികിത്സാസഹായവും മരണാനന്തര സഹായധനവും സമയബദ്ധമായി അനുവദിക്കണമെന്നും പ്രവാസി സംഘടനാ പ്രതിനിധികൾ ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടു.

പ്രവാസി ക്ഷേമനിധിയിൽ അംഗമാകുന്നതിനുള്ള പ്രായപരിധി 70 വയസ്സായി ഉയർത്തണമെന്നും നാട്ടിൽ തിരിച്ചെത്തുന്ന പ്രവാസികൾക്ക് സംരംഭങ്ങൾ ആരംഭിക്കുന്നതിന് സഹായധനം നൽകണമെന്നും വിവിധ കാരണങ്ങളാൽ ആനുകൂല്യങ്ങൾ നിഷേധിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന സാഹചര്യത്തിൽ അവ ലഭ്യമാക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള വ്യവസ്ഥകളിൽ ആവശ്യമായ മാറ്റങ്ങൾ വരുത്തണമെന്നും യോഗത്തിൽ ആവശ്യമുയർന്നു.

The Kerala Assembly Committee on the Welfare of Non-Resident Keralites will take measures to help ordinary people quickly contact Indian embassies, committee members have said.

The committee, chaired by Parakkal Abdulla, MLA, held a sitting in Kozhikode on Tuesday (October 6) to discuss various issues faced by expatriates in the district, benefits due to them from the government and complaints related to welfare pensions.

MLAs K.M. Abhijith, Pazhakulam Madhu, Mohammed Muhsin, M. Vincent, and Xavier Chittilappilly attended the meeting.

A meeting of the Legislative Assembly Committee on the Welfare of Non-Resident Keralites (NRKs) has decided to set up a system to enable ordinary people to contact Indian embassies quickly.

Collector M S Madhavikutty informed the committee that measures will be taken to swiftly dispose of applications related to Aadhaar cards, electoral identity cards and similar documents during the short periods when NRIs visit home on vacation.

Representatives from various NRI organisations raised complaints at the meeting regarding issues such as suspended Pravasi Welfare Fund pension payments, delays in receiving pensions and the non-time-bound processing of applications for welfare fund membership.

In the meeting, representatives of various expatriate organizations raised grievances related to issues related to non-payment of expatriate welfare fund pension, delay in receiving pension and non-settlement of applications for welfare fund membership in a time-bound manner. The representatives of the expatriate organizations demanded an increase in the existing medical assistance of Rs 50,000 under the Norka Santhanam scheme and timely release of medical assistance and post-mortem assistance.

It was demanded in the meeting that the age limit for becoming a member of the Non-Resident Welfare Fund should be increased to 70 years, assistance should be provided to expatriates returning home to start enterprises and necessary changes should be made in the conditions for providing benefits in case they are denied due to various reasons.

Committee chairman Parakkal Abdulla presided over the meeting. Mr. K.M. Abhijith, Pazhakulam Madhu, Muhammed Muhasin and others. Vincent, Xavier Chittilappilly and NORKA committee joint secretary Md. Jayashree, Dy. K. Representatives of various organisations had participated.
