ഇന്ത്യക്കാര്ക്ക് അനുവദിക്കുന്ന എച്ച്-1ബി വിസ പ്രോഗ്രാമില് വ്യാപക തട്ടിപ്പ് നടക്കുന്നതായി ആരോപണം. ഇന്ത്യന്-അമേരിക്കന് നയതന്ത്രജ്ഞയായ മഹ്വശ് സിദ്ദിഖിയാണ് ഇക്കാര്യം വ്യക്തമാക്കിയത്. ഇന്ത്യക്കാര്ക്ക് നല്കുന്ന വിസകളില് 80-90% വരെയും തട്ടിപ്പിലൂടെ നേടിയതാണെന്നും ഇതില് ഭൂരിഭാഗവും എച്ച്-1ബി വിസകളാണെന്നും അവര് ആരോപിച്ചു.
വ്യാജ ബിരുദങ്ങള്, വ്യാജ രേഖകള് എന്നിവയുടെ അടിസ്ഥാനത്തിലാണ് തട്ടിപ്പ് നടക്കുന്നത്. ഇവര് 2005 നും 2007 നും ഇടയില് ചെന്നൈ കോണ്സുലേറ്റില് സേവനമനുഷ്ഠിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ലോകത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ എച്ച്-1ബി വിസ പ്രോസസ്സിങ് കേന്ദ്രങ്ങളിലൊന്നായ ചെന്നൈയില് 2024 ല് മാത്രം 2,20,000 എച്ച്-1ബി വിസകളും അവരുടെ കുടുംബാംഗങ്ങള്ക്കായി 1,40,000 ഒഫോര് വിസകളും ഉള്പ്പെടെ യുഎസ് ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥര് ലക്ഷക്കണക്കിന് നോണ്-ഇമിഗ്രന്റ് വിസകള് തീര്പ്പാക്കിയിരുന്നുവെന്ന് സിദ്ദിഖി പറഞ്ഞു.
ഇന്റര്വ്യൂ ചെയ്യുന്നയാള് അമേരിക്കക്കാരനാണെങ്കില് ഉദ്യോഗാര്ത്ഥികള് അഭിമുഖം പൂര്ണ്ണമായും ഒഴിവാക്കുന്ന സംഭവങ്ങള് ഉണ്ടായിട്ടുണ്ട്. ആള്മാറാട്ടം നടത്തി അഭിമുഖത്തിന് ഹാജരായവരും ഉണ്ട്. മാത്രമല്ല ഇന്ത്യന് മാനേജര്മാര് കൈക്കൂലി വാങ്ങി ഇന്ത്യക്കാര്ക്ക് ജോലി നല്കിയിരുന്നുവെന്നും അവര് അവകാശപ്പെട്ടു.
ചെന്നൈയില് കോണ്സുലര് ഓഫീസറായിരുന്ന കാലത്ത് ഈ തട്ടിപ്പ് കണ്ടെത്തി സ്റ്റേറ്റ് സെക്രട്ടറിയെ അറിയിച്ചിരുന്നുവെന്നും എന്നാല് രാഷ്ട്രീയ സമ്മര്ദ്ദം കാരണം നടപടിയൊന്നും ഉണ്ടായില്ലെന്നും അവര് പറഞ്ഞു. നിരവധി രാഷ്ട്രീയക്കാര് ഈ തട്ടിപ്പില് ഉള്പ്പെട്ടിട്ടുണ്ടെന്നും അന്വേഷണം നടത്താതിരിക്കാന് തങ്ങളുടെ മേല് കാര്യമായ സമ്മര്ദ്ദമുണ്ടായിരുന്നെന്നും അവര് വ്യക്തമാക്കി.

Indian-American diplomat Mahvash Siddiqui has alleged widespread, systematic fraud in the H-1B visa programme, claiming that most of the working visas issued to Indians were obtained fraudulently. H-1B visa is used by American companies to hire foreign talent. Indians, especially, are the biggest beneficiaries of the H-1B temporary work visa programme.
Siddiqui, who served at the Chennai consulate between 2005 and 2007, made the claims while appearing on a podcast. She shared her firsthand experiences from her time as a consular officer in Chennai (Madras), one of the world’s largest H-1B visa-processing posts, where US officials adjudicated thousands of non-immigrant visas, including 220,000 H-1Bs and 140,000 H-4 visas for their family members in 2024 alone.
She said she was speaking in her personal capacity, not as a diplomat. She challenged the notion that the US faces a shortage of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) talent and requires recruitment from India.
Siddiqui alleged that 80–90% of visas issued to Indians, most of which are H-1B visas, are fraudulent, either based on fake degrees, forged documents, or applicants who are not genuinely highly skilled enough to qualify.
She further claimed that during her time in Chennai as a consular officer, they detected the fraud and informed the Secretary of State, but due to “political pressure”, no action was taken.
“We quickly learnt about the fraud. We wrote a dissent cable to the Secretary of State, detailing the systematic fraud we were uncovering. But due to political pressure from the top, our adjudication was overturned,” she said during the 39-minute podcast.
Siddiqui further said that their anti-fraud drive was called a “rogue operation”. She also alleged that numerous politicians were involved in the fraud and that there was significant pressure on them not to carry out their investigation against the alleged fraud. Siddiqui further claimed that it was done to appease Indian politicians.
PROXY APPLICANTS TO BRIBERY: BIG FRAUD IN H-1B?
She said she was posted at the Chennai consulate for two years and adjudicated over 51,000 non-immigrant visas, the majority of which were H-1B visas.
The Chennai consulate processed applications from four regions: Hyderabad, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu, she said, adding that Hyderabad was the most concerning.
“As an Indian-American, I hate to say this but fraud and bribery are normalised in India,” she said during the 39-minute podcast.
Siddiqui added that there were instances where candidates skipped their job interviews entirely if the interviewer was American. She also claimed that proxy candidates appeared for the interview and that Indian managers gave jobs to Indians in lieu of money.
H-1B visa is used by US firms to hire foreign workers. Indians are the largest beneficiaries of H-1B visas; 70% of recipients in 2024 were Indian nationals. Both F-1 student visas and H-1B visas have been prime targets of MAGA voices.

Very often, the truth is hiding in plain sight. That’s certainly the case with much of children’s entertainment.
The underlying message affixed to any number of movies geared toward kids seems to be some version of following one’s own heart, listening to his desires, chasing after her feelings. But that message, according to Trevin Wax, is a direct contradiction to the Gospel.
Wax, an author and visiting professor at Cedarville University, recently appeared on CBN’s “Faith in Culture,” were he eschewed such ideologies. While the world calls those ideas “common sense,” he said they are incongruous with Christianity.
“You think of these slogans that are out there, like, ‘Be true to yourself,’ ‘You do you,’ ‘Live your truth,’ ‘You are enough,’ ‘Follow your heart,’ ‘Chase your dreams,’” he said. “Sociologists call that ‘expressive individualism.’ … That’s the plot line in so many movies, even, like, good wholesome movies, in Disney movies. … It kind of passes for common sense in our day and age.”
The secular understanding of “freedom” is a far cry from true freedom as explained in Scripture, Wax said.
“It’s just so easy to define freedom in our day as a freedom from constraints, from limitations,” he explained. “[The world says] freedom is me doing whatever I want to do, when the Bible actually teaches that, ‘No, you doing just whatever you want to do, especially in our flesh, is a kind of slavery.’”
Throughout the New Testament, the Apostle Paul explains human beings will always be slaves to something — either to sin and our own desires or to a just and merciful God whose ways are higher and better than our own.
In Romans 6:16, Paul wrote, “Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living” (NLT).
“True freedom is submission to God, and it’s freedom for something,” said Wax. “It’s not doing whatever we want; it’s aligning our wants with God’s will, recognizing that that’s when we’re truly freest.”
Wax is the author of the new book, “The Gospel Way Catechism for Kids,” a children’s edition of his book by the same title.
In it, he and his co-author, Thomas West, outline 50 faith-centered questions and answers for children to read, study, and talk about with their families. He explained that these catechisms should serve as conversation starters in the home.
“A catechism isn’t supposed to be everything,” he said. “It’s supposed to be something. It’s meant to give you the structure or the scaffolding that you can then come in later and begin to fill in.”
While the world teaches a “meditation” that empties the mind of everything, Wax emphasized a godly mindfulness that calls believers to fill their minds with the commands and promises of Scripture.
“We’ve got to distinguish the Christian understanding of prayer from just mindfulness routines or just Eastern meditation that leads us to sort of empty our minds,” he explained. “[B]iblical meditation … is a filling of the mind with Scripture and God’s Word.”
