മതസ്വാതന്ത്ര്യം നിഷേധിച്ച് പൗരന്റെ ആത്മാഭിമാനത്തോയും വിശ്വാസത്തേയും ബിജെപി ഭരണകൂടം തകര്‍ക്കുന്നു
കേന്ദ്ര ആഭ്യന്തരമന്ത്രിക്കും ഒഡിഷ മുഖ്യമന്ത്രിക്കും കത്തയച്ചു.ബജ്‌റംഗ്ദള്‍ പ്രവര്‍ത്തകര്‍ ഒഡിഷയില്‍ ക്രിസ്ത്യന്‍ വൈദികനെ ക്രൂരമായും മര്‍ദ്ധിക്കുകയും ചാണകം തീറ്റിക്കുകയും ചെയ്ത സംഭവത്തില്‍ പ്രതികളെ അറസ്റ്റ് ചെയ്ത് ശക്തമായ നടപടി സ്വീകരിക്കണമെന്ന് ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ട് എഐസിസി ജനറല്‍ സെക്രട്ടറി കെസി വേണുഗോപാല്‍ എംപി കേന്ദ്ര ആഭ്യന്തരമന്ത്രിക്കും ഒഡിഷ മുഖ്യമന്ത്രിക്കും കത്തുനല്‍കി.

നാല്‍പ്പതോളം വരുന്ന ബജ്‌റംഗ്ദള്‍ പ്രവര്‍ത്തകരാണ് അക്രമത്തിന് നേതൃത്വം നല്‍കിയത്. ഞയറാഴ്ച പ്രാര്‍ത്ഥനയില്‍ പങ്കെടുക്കുന്നതിനിടെയായിരുന്നു വൈദികന്റെ വീട് അതിക്രമിച്ചുള്ള അക്രമം. വൈദികനെ തടഞ്ഞുവെച്ച് മര്‍ദ്ദിക്കുകയും മുഖത്ത് സിന്ദൂരം പൂശുകയും ചെരുപ്പുമാല അണിയിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. ശേഷം സമീപത്തെ ക്ഷേത്രത്തില്‍ കെട്ടിയിട്ട് ചാണകം തീറ്റിക്കുകയും അഴുക്കുചാലിലെ വെള്ളം കുടിപ്പിക്കുകയും ജയ് ശ്രീറാം വിളിക്കാന്‍ നിര്‍ബന്ധിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തുവെന്നും കെസി വേണുഗോപാല്‍ കത്തില്‍ ചൂണ്ടിക്കാട്ടി.

ഇത് വെറുമൊരു ആള്‍ക്കൂട്ട അക്രമണമല്ലെന്നും മതസ്വാതന്ത്ര്യത്തിന് മേലുള്ള കടന്നാക്രമണവുമാണെന്നും കെസി വേണുഗോപാല്‍ പറഞ്ഞു. പൗരന്റെ ആത്മാഭിമാനത്തേയും വിശ്വാസത്തെയും തകര്‍ക്കുന്നതാണ് ഇത്തരം സംഭവങ്ങള്‍. മതന്യൂനപക്ഷങ്ങള്‍ക്കെതിരായ ഇത്തരം കാട്ടുനീതി അംഗീകരിക്കാവുന്നതല്ല. നിയമവാഴ്ചയും ബഹുസ്വരതയും സംരക്ഷിക്കാനും സര്‍ക്കാരിന് ഉത്തരവാദിത്തമുണ്ട്. എന്നാല്‍ സര്‍ക്കാരിന്റെ നിസംഗത ഇത്തരം സംഭവങ്ങള്‍ ആവര്‍ത്തിക്കാന്‍ കാരണമാണ്. വൈദികന് നേരെ ആക്രമണം നടത്തിയ മുഴുവന്‍ പ്രതികളെയും പിടികൂടാന്‍ ആവശ്യമായ നടപടികള്‍ കേന്ദ്ര ആഭ്യന്തരവകുപ്പും ഒഡിഷ സര്‍ക്കാരും സ്വീകരിക്കണമെന്നും കെസി വേണുഗോപാല്‍ ഇരുവര്‍ക്കും നല്‍കിയ കത്തില്‍ ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടു.

Congress general secretary and Lok Sabha MP K C Venugopal on Friday wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, expressing “deep shock” over what he described as a “despicable and barbaric” mob attack on a Christian pastor and members of the Christian community in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district earlier this month. Venugopal urged immediate arrests and an independent inquiry into the incident.

In his letter, he referred to the assault on Pastor Bipin Bihari Naik in Parjang village on January 4, when a mob of around 40 people allegedly surrounded the pastor’s house while he was conducting Sunday prayers with his family and seven Christian families.

The mob, reportedly comprising Bajrang Dal activists, allegedly assaulted those present and detained the pastor.

Venugopal said the pastor was severely beaten, publicly humiliated, and paraded, with his face smeared with sindoor and a garland of sandals placed around his neck. He alleged that the pastor was tied up in front of a local temple, forced to eat cow dung, compelled to chant religious slogans, and made to drink water from a sewer.

Terming the incident a “humiliating public lynching” and an act of forced religious coercion, the Congress leader said the assault was aimed at stripping a citizen of his dignity and faith. He noted that seven Christian families had since been forced to flee their homes out of fear.

The letter also pointed out that no strict action had been taken against the accused despite the size of the mob and the gravity of the allegations.

Venugopal said vigilantism and mob justice could not be tolerated, particularly when directed against religious minorities on what he described as unverified and often malicious allegations of forced conversion.

“This is not an isolated incident,” Venugopal wrote, referring to similar attacks reported from different parts of Odisha in recent times. He said the Constitution guarantees every citizen the fundamental right to freedom of religion and that it was the government’s duty to uphold the rule of law and protect citizens from mob violence, irrespective of faith.

He further criticised what he described as the repeated silence of the government on such attacks, warning that it risked emboldening perpetrators to act with impunity.

Venugopal urged the Centre to take cognisance of the incident and direct the Odisha government to ensure the immediate arrest and prosecution of all those involved under the stringent provisions of law. He also sought a time-bound report from the state government on the circumstances leading to the attack and the failure to prevent it.

The Congress MP called for an independent and impartial inquiry into the incident and the broader pattern of targeted attacks on religious minorities. He also sought immediate protection, relief, and rehabilitation for Pastor Naik, his family, and the seven displaced Christian families.
