‘God Only Knows’: Dolly Parton Teams with For King & Country, Zach Williams at CMA Awards

Published

Dolly Parton took fans to church with her incredible performance alongside chart-topping Christian artists for King & Country and Zach Williams at The 53rd Annual CMA Awards. It was a musical event that will not be easily forgotten.

Earlier this year, Dolly and for King & Country joined forces on “God Only Knows.” According to her YouTube documentary, she believed the song coming to her was a work of God as she grew up in church, her father was a preacher and she loved what she heard. She had expressed an interest in working on more inspirational songs and along came “God Only Knows.”

The collaboration, released in late August, has over 5 million streams on YouTube alone.

But, for King & Country aren’t the only Christian artist Parton is working with. Just last month, Dolly released “There Was Jesus” with Zach Williams.

The Christian artists made their CMA Debut tonight, bringing a feeling of inspiration to the stage they may have never been felt before. God was present in their performances, there was no doubt about that.

Snoop Dogg Says ‘God Was in the Building’ After ‘The Voice’ Contestant Sings Famous Worship Song

Published

on

A singer hailing from Birmingham, Alabama, sparked a “spiritual” experience on NBC’s “The Voice,” according to the judges, all for of whom wanted the vocalist to join their respective teams.

Judges Gwen Stefani and Michael Bublé were the first to turn their chairs during Lauren-Michael Sellers’ blind audition, which aired this week.

“What a beautiful breath of fresh air you are,” said Bublé. “[I] love your voice, love your control, love that you brought this beautiful energy. This whole place just blew up.”

Stefani, for her part, was beaming the moment Sellers’ began singing her rendition of “Oceans (Where Feet May Fail)” by Hillsong United. She recalled to the singer an experience she had not that long ago, when she was on a run and came across the 2013 hit. She described it as a profoundly spiritual experience.

“Hearing you sing it,” Stefani said, “it just felt very real and honest.”

Moments later, judge Reba McEntire turned her chair with judge Snoop Dogg following not far behind.

What was clearly most impactful to McEntire and Snoop — at least at the onset of Sellers’ audition — was how clearly moved Stefani was by the Christian worship song.

“While you were singing, I was seeing Gwen light up, as if God was coming in the building, and I didn’t want to be left out when he came,” Snoop said, explaining why he waited until the very end of the song to turn his seat.

McEntire added, “I watched her, I listened to you, and I thought this is magical. I love your voice. Emotion, when people are singing, if you can feel it — oh my gosh that’s the greatest gift.”

After receiving the endorsement of all four judges, it was up to Sellers to choose her coach.

The 35-year-old singer quickly disclosed that, right before walking on stage, she prayed “Reba’s prayer,” which is, “Holy Spirit, walk with me, talk with me, sing for me, speak for me.” Moments later, she announced she was choosing the Queen of Country as her coach.

One day after her blind audition aired, Sellers took to her Instagram to share a clip of her leading several of her fellow contestants in worship by the pool at the hotel where they were staying.

She described that opportunity as “an unforgettable moment.”

“Singing my blind song Hillsong United’s ‘Oceans’ together was so powerful — such a beautiful reminder of how music connects us to one another and to God, no matter where we are,” she wrote. “Feeling blessed to share this journey with such incredible souls.”

Actor Kevin Sorbo’s Childhood Encounter With Billy Graham, His Journey to Jesus

Published

on

Actor Kevin Sorbo has had a storied Hollywood career, but despite fame, money, and the wild success of TV shows and movies like “Hercules” and “God’s Not Dead,” he’s never strayed from his childhood faith.

“In later teenage years in my 20s, I did a lot of stupid things,” he recently told CBN News during a wide-ranging interview. “But I never went away from my faith. I never had that crisis where I didn’t believe in God or believe in Jesus.”

Sorbo, a second-generation Norwegian, described growing up near Lake Minnetonka, in a small town about 20 miles outside of Minneapolis to loving parents who were “very devoted Christians.”

“My mom’s still alive at 92,” Sorbo said. “My father passed 12 years ago. My best friend, he’s the best man at my wedding. My dad, I miss him every day.”

As a teen, Sorbo was part of a youth group, listening to sermons that made the Bible applicable to his young life and experience.

Meeting Billy Graham

And when he was just 13, an event unfolded that only added to that powerful faith rooting.

“When I was 13, we took a field trip to the St. Paul fairgrounds with the Rev. Billy Graham,” Sorbo said. “It was a hot August night. There [were], like, 300,000 people there outside. It was amazing — full moon was out and Billy Graham’s, like, incredible, even though he’s a mile away on the stage.”

Little did Sorbo know, but he’d end up meeting Graham that night. As he was sitting and talking with someone during the gathering, he felt a hand on his head.

“I turned around and it was Billy Graham,” Sorbo said. “And he had his security guys with him, of course. But his head was perfectly behind the full moon. It’s like these rays coming out of his head. And I … got goosebumps.”

The encounter stuck with Sorbo. Years later, the actor made it big and then publicly recounted the story to the late TV host Larry King. That’s when Graham’s publicist reached out to tell Sorbo that Graham’s team was looking to do a “Chicken Soup” book based.

Sorbo’s story was included in the book, and he even ended up helping with publicity for the project.

“It was really cool,” Sorbo said, describing the full-circle moment. “I’ve become good friends with [Graham’s son] Franklin Graham ever since then. … That was kind of an important time in my life.”

A Journey Into Hollywood

Sorbo’s journey into acting also came with an interesting trajectory. At age 11, Sorbo took a field trip to see a stage show that changed everything.

Despite being unable to understand the Shakespearean language being uttered, he was captivated.

“I was blown away by the actors on stage,” Sorbo said. “And I told my mom, who was one of the chaperones, on the way home [I] was sitting next to her on the bus, and she said, ‘So, what do you think?’”

Sorbo recalled offering up a surprising response. He proclaimed, “So, I’m gonna be an actor!” His mother said, “That’s nice dear,” likely assuming his resolute reaction was one of the typical follies of a boy his age. But that formative moment changed everything for Sorbo, as his path was being paved.

“It was there the seed [was planted],” he said. “But I was a jock, and all through junior high, high school, college … you don’t tell your buddies that you want to be in a theater, because those were the wussy guys.”

But, as time went on, the call grew louder and Sorbo ended up minoring in drama in college. Soon, he found himself taking on professional jobs.

“I started doing a lot of commercial work,” he said, noting the presence of corporations in Minneapolis and St. Paul opened up a lot of opportunities.

Sorbo landed a commercial agent and, at one point, joined a theater group in Dallas, Texas, where he further honed his craft. It was during a summer in Italy before heading to Hollywood when Sorbo was 22 years old that he was discovered by fashion icon Gianni Versace.

This ramped up his commercial work and further catapulted his career. After some other moves, he eventually landed “Hercules” and the rest is, well, history.
