Controversial Anti-Conversion Law Introduced in Haryana, India
India –The BJP-led State Assembly in the state of Haryana has introduced an anti-conversion bill which if approved by the governor, would make Haryana the 11th state in India to introduce an anti-conversion law.
The bill’s language prohibits religious conversions effected through misrepresentation or fraudulent means such as by force, undue influence, coercion, allurement, or marriage. The law also mandates that individuals converting from one religion to another submit a statement that the conversion was not through any of the prohibited means.
“We are increasingly concerned about India’s anti-conversion laws,” said ICC President Jeff King. “These laws are primarily used to suppress and persecute Christians. Such legislation only emboldens the Hindu nationalists to attack Christians and suppress the freedom of religion. The international community cannot ignore these draconian measures used to attack the Church and other religious minorities.”
Similar laws exist in nine other states: Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakand, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Arunachal Pradesh. Those state governments have not defined the terms “inducement,” “coercion,” “force,” or “fraud” in the context of religious conversions. Because of this legal ambiguity, these laws have been widely abused by radical Hindu nationalist groups to harass and intimidate Christians while claiming to be under the auspices of state law.
A local pastor in Haryana, who requested anonymity, told International Christian Concern (ICC), “There has been a gradual shutdown of house churches in the region where I live, through threats and violence. The new law will be one more step to validate what they have been doing to Christians. it is going to be difficult, not because of the content of the law, but how the law can be misused to target innocent Christians.”
Dr. John Dayal, a prominent voice of the Christian community in India, said, “The bill in Haryana climbs a couple of steps higher than even the terrible Karnataka law that precipitated a massive civil society protest and grassroots movement.”

India— Two Hindu nationalist organizations are trying to stop two large public Christian conventions scheduled to take place in different provinces of the Central Indian state of Chhattisgarh.
Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal have submitted appeals to the police and district administrative officials, warning that unless the conventions are canceled, authorities will be responsible for any subsequent communal disturbances.
While the VHP is demanding the cancelation of a large November convention organized by Paul Dinakaran, a well-known Pentecostal preacher from South India in the southern Bastar district, the Bajrang Dal is seeking to stop Pastor Bajinder from New Delhi, famous for his healing crusades, from leading a gathering later this month in Bhilai, in the northern part of Chhattisgarh.
In its memorandum to authorities in Bastar, the VHP described Dinakaran as a criminal and called his program damaging to the district’s cultural and religious fabric.
The VHP also alleged that foreign Christian missionaries are influencing the cultural identity of Bastar, a sensitive tribal-dominated area, through forced conversions.
The Bajrang Dal, meanwhile, has alleged that Pastor Bajinder, through healing and prayer events, influences the conversions of poor and vulnerable families. The organization has stated it will go to any extent to stop Bajinder’s two-day event if the authorities don’t take action.
Jesus Calls Global Ministry, the organizer of the Dinakaran’s two-day convention in Bastar, said that the Hindu fanatics are trying to curtail the fundamental rights of India’s citizens. A Christian social worker told International Christian Concern (ICC) that Christians have constitutional rights to preach and propagate their religion, so Hindu nationalists are upset that government officials have approved Dinakaran’s convention.
The organizers of Bajinder’s meeting told local media that the program is organized for Christians, but Hindus are also welcome to come for healing and prayers.

മികച്ച വിദ്യാര്‍ത്ഥികള്‍ക്ക് പഠനകാലയളവ് തീരുംവരെ നല്‍കുന്ന ഗുഡ്‌ന്യൂസ് ചാരിറ്റബിള്‍ സൊസൈറ്റിയുടെ പ്രൊഫഷണല്‍ സ്‌കോളര്‍ഷിപ്പ് പദ്ധതിക്ക് അദ്ദേഹമാണ് തുടക്കമിട്ടത്. ഇതു കൂടാതെ മറ്റു സഹായ പദ്ധതികളായ പ്രതിമാസ വിധവ സഹായം, പാസ്റ്റേഴ്‌സ് പെന്‍ഷന്‍,മെഡിക്കല്‍ സഹായങ്ങള്‍,വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ സഹായങ്ങള്‍,ഭവന നിര്‍മ്മാണ സഹായങ്ങള്‍ എന്നിവയും അദ്ദേഹം ചെയ്തു വരുന്നു.
