ഗോവയിൽ മതപരിവർത്തന വിരുദ്ധ നിയമം നടപ്പിലാക്കാൻ മുഖ്യമന്ത്രി പ്രമോദ് സാവന്ത്

നിർബന്ധിത മതപരിവർത്തനം പരിഹരിക്കുന്നതിനായി ഗോവാ മുഖ്യമന്ത്രി പ്രമോദ് സാവന്ത് മതപരിവർത്തന വിരുദ്ധ നിയമം കൊണ്ടുവരണമെന്ന് ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടു. ക്രൈസ്തവരെയും മറ്റ് മതന്യൂനപക്ഷങ്ങളെയും സാരമായി ബാധിക്കുന്ന ഈ നിയമത്തിനെതിരെ ഏറെ വിമർശനങ്ങൾ ഉയർന്നിട്ടുണ്ട്.

മതപരിവർത്തന വിരുദ്ധ നിയമത്തിനുള്ള സമയമാണിതെന്ന് പ്രമോദ് സാവന്ത് സംസ്ഥാന നിയമസഭയിൽ പറഞ്ഞു. നിർബന്ധിത മതപരിവർത്തനങ്ങൾക്കെതിരെ ആരോപിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന സംഭവങ്ങളെ ചെറുക്കാൻ ഗോവയും ഉത്തർപ്രദേശ് പോലുള്ള സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളെ പിന്തുടരണമെന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം നിർദേശിച്ചു. സംസ്ഥാന നിയമസഭയുടെ മൺസൂൺ സമ്മേളനത്തിലാണ് സാവന്ത് ഈ നിർദേശം മുന്നോട്ടുവച്ചത്. ഇത് നിയമസഭാംഗങ്ങൾക്കിടയിൽ ചർച്ചയ്ക്ക് വഴിയൊരുക്കി. ഗോവയിൽ അത്തരമൊരു നിയമനിർമ്മാണത്തിന്റെ പ്രസക്തിയും വസ്തുതാപരവുമായ അടിസ്ഥാനത്തെ പ്രതിപക്ഷ അംഗങ്ങൾ ചോദ്യം ചെയ്തു.

ഗോവയിലെ 1.4 ദശലക്ഷം ജനങ്ങളിൽ ഏകദേശം 25% റോമൻ കത്തോലിക്കരാണ്. അരുണാചൽ പ്രദേശ്, ഛത്തീസ്ഗഡ്, ഗുജറാത്ത്, ഹരിയാന, ഹിമാചൽ പ്രദേശ്, ജാർഖണ്ഡ്, കർണാടക, മധ്യപ്രദേശ്, ഒഡീഷ, രാജസ്ഥാൻ, ഉത്തരാഖണ്ഡ്, ഉത്തർപ്രദേശ് എന്നിവയുൾപ്പെടെ 12 ഇന്ത്യൻ സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളിൽ മതപരിവർത്തന വിരുദ്ധ നിയമങ്ങൾ നിലവിലുണ്ട്.

Goa’s chief minister, Pramod Sawant, has called for a law to ban what he claims are forced religious conversions in the state. His comments have drawn criticism from opposition leaders and concern from Christian groups, who fear the law could be misused against religious minorities.

Speaking during the recent monsoon session of the state legislative assembly, Sawant said Goa should consider passing a law similar to those already in place in other Indian states, such as Uttar Pradesh. These laws are designed to prevent conversions by force, fraud or inducement, but they have often been criticised for targeting Christians and other minority groups.

“Many states have passed anti-conversion laws, and I believe we also need one,” Sawant said.

However, opposition lawmakers questioned the need for such legislation in Goa. They argued that there is no clear evidence of widespread forced conversions and accused the chief minister of promoting a national political agenda in the state. Sawant is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which governs over a third of India’s states and is known for promoting Hindu nationalist policies.

Vijay Sardesai, a member of the Goa Forward Party, challenged Sawant to provide proof of forced conversions. He warned that such comments and actions could harm Goa’s unique identity and its long-standing tradition of religious harmony.

Independent legislator Aleixo Lourenço also asked the chief minister to back his claims with official data, saying such sensitive issues must be handled with care and facts.

Goa, a former Portuguese colony until 1961, is known for its diverse and peaceful religious makeup. Around 25% of its 1.4 million residents are Roman Catholic. For generations, the state has been seen as a model of communal unity in India.

A recent editorial in The Goan, a local newspaper, warned that any anti-conversion law passed without proper discussion could be used for political or communal purposes. The editorial urged the government to focus on protecting the state’s inclusive values and to avoid measures that could create division or fear.

Twelve Indian states currently have anti-conversion laws in place. These laws carry strict penalties, including heavy fines and prison sentences, for anyone found guilty of converting others through coercion, fraud, or incentives.

Critics of these laws say they are often used to target Christians and restrict their freedom to share their faith. Churches and Christian leaders have repeatedly called for protections that ensure true religious freedom for all communities in India.

കോഴിക്കോട്: ഇന്ത്യൻ എംബസികളുമായി വേഗത്തിൽ ബന്ധപ്പെടാനുള്ള സംവിധാനം സാധാരണക്കാർക്ക് ഒരുക്കാൻ പ്രവാസി മലയാളികളുടെ ക്ഷേമം സംബന്ധിച്ച നിയമസഭാ സമിതി യോഗത്തിൽ തീരുമാനമായി. പ്രവാസികൾ അവധിക്കായി നാട്ടിലെത്തുന്ന ചെറിയ ഇടവേളകളിൽ ആധാർ കാർഡ്, തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് തിരിച്ചറിയൽ കാർഡ് തുടങ്ങിയവയുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട അപേക്ഷകൾ വേഗത്തിൽ തീർപ്പാക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള നടപടികൾ സ്വീകരിക്കുമെന്ന് കളക്ടർ എം.എസ്. മാധവിക്കുട്ടി സമിതിയെ അറിയിച്ചു.

പ്രവാസി ക്ഷേമനിധി പെൻഷൻ മുടങ്ങിക്കിടക്കുന്നതുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട പ്രശ്നങ്ങൾ, പെൻഷൻ ലഭിക്കുന്നതിലെ കാലതാമസം, ക്ഷേമനിധി അംഗത്വത്തിനുള്ള അപേക്ഷകൾ സമയബദ്ധമായി തീർപ്പാക്കാത്തത് തുടങ്ങിയ വിഷയങ്ങളുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട പരാതികൾ വിവിധ പ്രവാസി സംഘടനാ പ്രതിനിധികൾ യോഗത്തിൽ ഉന്നയിച്ചു. നോർക്ക സാന്ത്വനം പദ്ധതിവഴി നിലവിൽ നൽകിവരുന്ന 50,000 രൂപയുടെ ചികിത്സാസഹായം വർധിപ്പിക്കണമെന്നും ചികിത്സാസഹായവും മരണാനന്തര സഹായധനവും സമയബദ്ധമായി അനുവദിക്കണമെന്നും പ്രവാസി സംഘടനാ പ്രതിനിധികൾ ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടു.

പ്രവാസി ക്ഷേമനിധിയിൽ അംഗമാകുന്നതിനുള്ള പ്രായപരിധി 70 വയസ്സായി ഉയർത്തണമെന്നും നാട്ടിൽ തിരിച്ചെത്തുന്ന പ്രവാസികൾക്ക് സംരംഭങ്ങൾ ആരംഭിക്കുന്നതിന് സഹായധനം നൽകണമെന്നും വിവിധ കാരണങ്ങളാൽ ആനുകൂല്യങ്ങൾ നിഷേധിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന സാഹചര്യത്തിൽ അവ ലഭ്യമാക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള വ്യവസ്ഥകളിൽ ആവശ്യമായ മാറ്റങ്ങൾ വരുത്തണമെന്നും യോഗത്തിൽ ആവശ്യമുയർന്നു.

The Kerala Assembly Committee on the Welfare of Non-Resident Keralites will take measures to help ordinary people quickly contact Indian embassies, committee members have said.

The committee, chaired by Parakkal Abdulla, MLA, held a sitting in Kozhikode on Tuesday (October 6) to discuss various issues faced by expatriates in the district, benefits due to them from the government and complaints related to welfare pensions.

MLAs K.M. Abhijith, Pazhakulam Madhu, Mohammed Muhsin, M. Vincent, and Xavier Chittilappilly attended the meeting.

A meeting of the Legislative Assembly Committee on the Welfare of Non-Resident Keralites (NRKs) has decided to set up a system to enable ordinary people to contact Indian embassies quickly.

Collector M S Madhavikutty informed the committee that measures will be taken to swiftly dispose of applications related to Aadhaar cards, electoral identity cards and similar documents during the short periods when NRIs visit home on vacation.

Representatives from various NRI organisations raised complaints at the meeting regarding issues such as suspended Pravasi Welfare Fund pension payments, delays in receiving pensions and the non-time-bound processing of applications for welfare fund membership.

In the meeting, representatives of various expatriate organizations raised grievances related to issues related to non-payment of expatriate welfare fund pension, delay in receiving pension and non-settlement of applications for welfare fund membership in a time-bound manner. The representatives of the expatriate organizations demanded an increase in the existing medical assistance of Rs 50,000 under the Norka Santhanam scheme and timely release of medical assistance and post-mortem assistance.

It was demanded in the meeting that the age limit for becoming a member of the Non-Resident Welfare Fund should be increased to 70 years, assistance should be provided to expatriates returning home to start enterprises and necessary changes should be made in the conditions for providing benefits in case they are denied due to various reasons.

Committee chairman Parakkal Abdulla presided over the meeting. Mr. K.M. Abhijith, Pazhakulam Madhu, Muhammed Muhasin and others. Vincent, Xavier Chittilappilly and NORKA committee joint secretary Md. Jayashree, Dy. K. Representatives of various organisations had participated.

മത്സരത്തില്‍ കുമളി സെന്റര്‍ ഓവറോള്‍ ചാമ്പ്യന്മാരായി. വൈപിഇ, സണ്‍ഡേ സ്ക്കൂള്‍ ഹൈറേഞ്ച് സോണലില്‍ കുമളി സെന്റ്ര്‍ ചാമ്പ്യന്മാരയപ്പോള്‍ സണ്‍ഡേ സ്ക്കൂള്‍ സെക്കന്‍റ് കട്ടപ്പന സെന്‍ററും, വൈ,പി,ഇ സെക്കന്‍റ് ചപ്പാത്ത് സെന്ററും കരസ്ഥമാക്കി.

അഞ്ച് സെന്ററുകള്‍ ഉള്‍പ്പെടുന്നതാണ് ഹൈറേഞ്ച് സോണല്‍. ഇതില്‍ 55 പ്രാദേശിക സഭകളില്‍ നിന്നുള്ള മത്സരാര്‍ത്ഥികളാണ് ടാലന്റ് ടെസ്റ്റില്‍ പങ്കെടുത്തത്.

കൂട്ടായ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനവും ലോക്കല്‍ സഭകളുടെ മികച്ച സഹകരണവും വരുന്നാളുകളില്‍ ഹൈറേഞ്ച് സോണലിന്റെ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് കൂടുതല്‍ ശക്തി പകരുമെന്നും, വിജയികളായ എല്ലാ പ്രിയപ്പെട്ടവര്‍ക്കും സോണലിന്റെ ആശംസകള്‍ അറിയിക്കുന്നതായും, ഏറ്റവും മികച്ച ജഡ്ജിങ് പാനല്‍ ആയിരുന്നു വിധികര്‍ത്താക്കളായി എത്തിയതെന്നും ഡയറക്ടര്‍ പറഞ്ഞു.

സമാപന സമ്മേളനം കട്ടപ്പന സെന്റര്‍ സെക്രട്ടറി സജിമോന്‍ എ സി (റെജി) പ്രാര്‍ത്ഥിച്ച് ആരംഭിച്ചു. മത്സരാര്‍ത്ഥികളുടെ മികവിനേയും, പോരായ്മകളേയും കുറിച്ച് ജഡ്ജസ് വിശദമായി സംസ്സാരിച്ചു.
