Anti-evangelical attacks on Christmas celebrations in Madhya Pradesh.

New Delhi: Expressing deep anguish over what it described as an alarming rise in attacks on Christians during the Christmas season, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) strongly condemned incidents targeting Christian communities in several states and demanded urgent action to ensure their safety.

In a statement, the CBCI said the reported attacks, particularly against peaceful carol singers and congregations gathered in churches for prayer, seriously undermined India’s constitutional guarantees of freedom of religion and the right to live and worship without fear.

The bishops’ body said it was particularly shocked by a viral video from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, which allegedly showed a visually challenged woman attending a Christmas programme being publicly abused and physically harassed by Anju Bhargava, identified as the city vice-president of the Bharatiya Janata Party. It also referred to reports of what it termed “anti-national groups” disrupting Christmas gatherings.

Terming the incident dehumanising, the CBCI demanded the immediate dismissal of Anju Bhargava from the party. It further expressed concern over the circulation of hate-filled digital posters in Chhattisgarh, which reportedly called for a bandh on December 24, 2025, against Christians, warning that such messages could inflame tensions and incite further violence.

Condemning these acts in the strongest possible terms, the CBCI urged both state governments and the Union government to take urgent and visible action against individuals and organisations spreading hatred and violence. The statement also appealed to the Hon’ble Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, to ensure strict enforcement of the law and proactive protection for Christian communities so that Christmas could be celebrated peacefully, in an atmosphere of security and harmony, across the country.

റവ. ചാക്കോ പുന്നൂസ് വിദേശത്ത് സ്ഥിരതാമസമായതിനാൽ ഐപിസി ചേർത്തല സെൻ്റർ ശുശ്രൂഷകനും തിരുവല്ല തെങ്ങേലി സ്വദേശിയുമായ പാസ്റ്റർ സാബു തോമസിൻ്റെ ചുമതലയിൽ ഇവരുടെ ഭൂമി സംബന്ധിച്ചുള്ള രേഖകൾ 8 പേരുടെയും പേരിൽകൂട്ടി കരം അടച്ച് കൈമാറി.ഇതിൽ പൊതു പ്രാർത്ഥനാലയത്തിനും സ്ഥലം ക്രമീകരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ചിറയിൽ ഈഡൻ ഗാർഡൻസ് എന്നാണ് സ്ഥലത്തിൻ്റെ പൊതുപേര്.

15 വർഷത്തേക്ക് ഇവ മറ്റാർക്കും കൈമാറ്റം ചെയ്യാൻ കഴിയാത്ത നിലയിൽ കരാർ ഒപ്പിട്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്.പാസ്റ്റർ സാബു തോമസിൻ്റെ യുഎസ് സന്ദർശനവേളയിലാണ് റവ. ചാക്കോ പുന്നൂസ് തൻ്റെ സ്ഥലം ഭൂരഹിതർക്ക് ദാനം ചെയ്യുന്നത് സംബന്ധിച്ച് തീരുമാനം അറിയിച്ചത്.

ഭൂരേഖകൾ കൈമാറുന്ന സമ്മേളനം റവ.ചാക്കോ പുന്നൂസ് ഓൺലൈനായി ഉദ്ഘാടനം ചെയ്തു. പാസ്റ്റർ സാബു തോമസ് അധ്യക്ഷത വഹിച്ചു. പാസ്റ്റർമാരായ ടി.ഒ.രാജു, കുര്യൻ കുഴിപറമ്പിൽ, ഐപിസി തിരുവല്ല സെൻ്റർ ട്രഷറർ ജോജി ഐപ്പ് മാത്യൂസ്, നഗരസഭ കൗൺസിലർമാരായ സണ്ണി മനയ്ക്കൽ, ജയശ്രീ മുരിക്കനാട്ടിൽ, എം.ടി.ഏബ്രഹാം, ലൗജി പാപ്പച്ചൻ, അലക്സ് ഏബ്രഹാം എന്നിവർ പ്രസംഗിച്ചു.

മധ്യപ്രദേശിലെ അന്നുപ്പൂർ ജില്ലയിലെ മലയാളി പാസ്റ്റർ എസ്.ഡി യേശുദാസിനെ ഇന്നലെ (ഒക്ടോബർ 7) രാവിലെ മുതൽ കാണാതായിരിക്കുന്നു. ഇന്നലെ രാവിലെ എട്ടരയ്ക്ക് അടുത്തുള്ള മറ്റൊരു പാസ്‌റ്ററുടെ ഭവനത്തിൽ പോയതാണ്. ആ ജില്ലയിലെ ലീഡർ കൂടിയായ അദ്ദേഹം ആ പ്രദേശത്തെ സുവിശേഷ വിരോധികളുടെ ഭീഷണി നേരിടുന്ന ആളാണ്.
