റിപ്പബ്ലിക് ദിനത്തിൽ ഛത്തീസ്ഗഡിൽ ക്രൈസ്തവര്‍ക്ക് നേരെ ആക്രമണം
റായ്പൂര്‍: ജനുവരി 26 റിപ്പബ്ലിക് ദിനത്തിൽ ഛത്തീസ്ഗഡിൽ മതപരിവർത്തനം ആരോപിച്ച് ഹൈന്ദവ തീവ്രവാദികളുടെ ആക്രമണത്തെത്തുടർന്ന് രണ്ട് വ്യത്യസ്ത കേസുകളിലായി ഏഴ് ക്രൈസ്തവരെ പോലീസ് അറസ്റ്റ് ചെയ്തു. സംസ്ഥാനത്തിന്റെ തലസ്ഥാനമായ റായ്പൂരിനടുത്തുള്ള മോവയിൽ ഞായറാഴ്ച പ്രാർത്ഥന ശുശ്രൂഷയ്ക്ക് ശേഷം തീവ്ര ഹിന്ദുത്വ ഗ്രൂപ്പായ ബജ്രംഗ്ദൾ (ഹനുമാൻ പ്രഭു ബ്രിഗേഡ്) ക്രൈസ്തവരെ ആക്രമിച്ചതായും ശേഷം വ്യാജ കേസ് ചുമത്തി ക്രൈസ്തവരെ തടങ്കലിലാക്കുകയായിരിന്നുവെന്നും ഛത്തീസ്ഗഢിലെ ക്രിസ്ത്യൻ ഫോറം പ്രസിഡൻ്റ് അരുൺ പന്നാലാൽ ഇന്നലെ ജനുവരി 27ന് യുസിഎ ന്യൂസിനോട് പറഞ്ഞു.
ക്രൈസ്തവര്‍ നിയമവിരുദ്ധമായ മതപരിവർത്തനം നടത്തുകയാണെന്ന് ആരോപിച്ച് പോലീസിനെ ഉപയോഗിച്ച് അറസ്റ്റ് ചെയ്യിപ്പിച്ചെന്നും വെളിപ്പെടുത്തലുണ്ട്. പ്രാർത്ഥനയ്ക്ക് ശേഷം ദേശീയ പതാക ഉയർത്തൽ ചടങ്ങിൽ ക്രിസ്ത്യാനികൾ പങ്കെടുക്കുന്നതിനിടെയാണ് ആക്രമണമുണ്ടായത്. ആശുപത്രിയിൽ പ്രവേശിപ്പിച്ച ക്രൈസ്തവരില്‍ ഒരാളുടെ നില ഗുരുതരമായി തുടരുകയാണെന്നും അദ്ദേഹം വെളിപ്പെടുത്തി. ബജ്‌റംഗ്ദൾ അംഗങ്ങൾ ഒരു ക്രൈസ്തവ ആരാധനാലയം കൊള്ളയടിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്. മൂന്ന് ക്രൈസ്തവരെ പാന്ദ്രി പോലീസ് അറസ്റ്റ് ചെയ്തു. സംസ്ഥാനത്തെ മതപരിവർത്തന നിരോധന നിയമപ്രകാരമാണ് ഇവർക്കെതിരെ കേസെടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നത്.
നേരത്തെ ജനുവരി 26ന് ബൽറാംപൂർ ജില്ലയിലെ സരൂത്ത് എന്ന ഗ്രാമത്തിൽ മതപരിവർത്തനം ആരോപിച്ച് ഒരു സുവിശേഷ പ്രഘോഷകനെയും മൂന്ന് കൂട്ടാളികളെയും പോലീസ് അറസ്റ്റ് ചെയ്തിരുന്നു. ഇവരെ ജയിലിലടച്ചു. ഇദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ വസതിയിൽ നടത്തിയ റെയ്ഡിനിടെ, ബൈബിളുകളും ലഘുലേഖകളും പോലീസ് പിടിച്ചെടുത്തതായി റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ടുണ്ടായിരിന്നു. ഹിന്ദുത്വ നിലപാടുള്ള ഭാരതീയ ജനതാ പാർട്ടി (ബിജെപി) ആണ് ഛത്തീസ്ഗഢ് സംസ്ഥാനം ഭരിക്കുന്നത്. ന്യൂഡൽഹി ആസ്ഥാനമായുള്ള യുണൈറ്റഡ് ക്രിസ്ത്യൻ ഫോറം (യുസിഎഫ്) പുറത്തുവിട്ട കണക്കുകള്‍ പ്രകാരം കഴിഞ്ഞ വർഷം സംസ്ഥാനത്ത് ക്രൈസ്തവര്‍ക്ക് നേരെ 165 അക്രമ സംഭവങ്ങളാണ് രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നത്.

Police in Chhattisgarh arrested seven Christians on Republic Day, January 26, following attacks by members of the Hindu hardline group Bajrang Dal. The arrests were made in two separate cases related to accusations of religious conversion.
The attacks occurred in Mowa, a town near Raipur, where Christians had gathered for a national flag-raising ceremony after their Sunday prayer service. Arun Pannalal, president of Chhattisgarh’s Christian Forum, told UCA News that members of Bajrang Dal accused the Christians of illegal conversion, a common charge used to target the Christian community.
Some Christians were injured in the attack, and one person remains in critical condition. Bajrang Dal members also vandalized a house church and filed a complaint at Pandri police station, leading to the arrest of three Christians. They face charges under the state’s anti-conversion law.
Earlier the same day, in Balrampur district, a pastor and three of his associates were arrested in the village of Saruat after accusations of conversion. Police reportedly confiscated Bibles and promotional leaflets from the pastor’s residence during a raid.
Chhattisgarh, governed by the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has seen growing tensions between Hindu hardliners and the Christian community. The BJP’s proposed new anti-conversion law aims to impose harsher punishments for religious conversions through coercion, fraud, or allurement. The existing Chhattisgarh Freedom of Religion Act already punishes conversions under similar grounds.
Christian leaders, including the United Christian Forum (UCF), have condemned the violence, calling it anti-Christian propaganda. In 2024, UCF recorded 165 incidents of violence against Christians in Chhattisgarh, with the northern state of Uttar Pradesh seeing the highest number.
Christians in Chhattisgarh make up less than 2 percent of the state’s population of 30 million.

India— A legislator belonging to the Hindu-nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the party ruling Maharashtra state in India, put out a bounty on evangelists who allegedly visit villages for proselytization.
In a public speech, BJP Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Gopichand Padalkar allegedly put a rate card for killings of different kinds of Christians, the highest amount being for pastors.
Padalkar allegedly made the speech after a 28-year-old woman, who was four months pregnant, died by suicide in Sangli district of Maharashtra because of an alleged demand for dowry from in-laws and pressure to practice Christianity.
The announcement of the cash reward has sparked outrage among the Christian community.
Christian communities in various towns and cities across Maharashtra have held protests demanding that a police case be registered against the MLA for inciting violence and spreading hatred through Padalkar’s speech.
Protesters also demanded that Padalkar be immediately expelled from the Maharashtra Legislative Council, adding that such individuals have no place in a democratic institution that upholds secular values.
In Jalna town, protesters led by prominent Christian leaders submitted a memorandum to the district collector, requesting action against the legislator.
In Nagpur city, a delegation from the Nagpur City United Churches Forum, comprising MLA Vikas Thakre, Father Sanjay Kotchade, Bishop Satish Yangad, Rev. Suresh Godbole, and others, submitted a memorandum of various demands to Police Commissioner Ravindra Singal.
The memorandum included a demand to immediately register an FIR against Padalkar for placing a bounty on Christians and making unconstitutional statements against the Christian community.
Hate speeches against religious minorities in India, particularly those targeting Christians and Muslims, have become tools in the hands of political leaders since the BJP came to power at the federal level in 2014.
India has recorded at least 947 hate-related incidents between June 2024 and June 2025. Out of this, 345 hate speeches overwhelmingly targeted Muslim and Christian communities.
The findings of this alarming data, compiled jointly by the Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) and the Quill Foundation, were released on June 27.
