Christian apologist Ravi Zacharias receives grim prognosis on cancer battle

Published

Ravi Zacharias has received a grim prognosis on the progression of his cancer.

Zacharias’ daughter and CEO of Ravi Zacharias International Ministries (RZIM) Sarah Davis shared an update on her father’s condition.

Despite recently undergoing back surgery and cancer treatment, Davis says their family is preparing for Zacharias’ final days.

“We have just learned that while the tumor in my dad’s sacrum has been responding to the chemotherapy, the area where the cancer metastasized has actually worsened,” says Davis. “His oncologist informed us that this cancer is very rare in its aggression and that no options for further treatment reman.

“Medically speaking, they have done all they are able to.”

Zacharias, his wife, and daughter Naomi are returning from Houston to their home in Atlanta for their family to be together “for whatever time the Lord gives us,” Davis shared.

Despite the bleak prognosis on Zacharias’ condition, Davis says their family remains steadfast and thankful in their faith,

“We are so grateful to God for His goodness and His love that we have seen evidenced in so many ways. The love and care that you have given to us is one of the most beautiful expressions of God’s kindness,” Davis says.

“We know that God has purposed and numbered each of our days, and only He knows how many more Ravi will experience on this earth,” Davis writes. “One day, likely sooner than later, we will be serving without our beloved founder, though I know his love and legacy will convict and inspire us to service of his Lord even greater than we have seen before. While we are full of so many emotions, we are also at peace, resting in the truth that God knows all and sees all and is sovereign and good.

“I think of the great joy my dad will have and I am comforted.”

In an online post, Zacharias addressed his health while sharing he and his wife’s 48th wedding anniversary.

“Our 48th wedding anniversary looked different than the others, but three things remain the same: our love for each other, the gift of family and friends who shower us with kindness, and the abiding faithfulness of our great God,” says Zacharias.

Davis also shared their family’s gratitude to the care, friendship, and love her father received by the medical teams at MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he underwent treatment.

“After many weeks of separation, our family is anxious to spend time together,” Davis says before addressing those at RZIM.

“You are also our family. We love you and are grateful to share these thin places with you. Thank you for what each of you do to faithfully support my dad’s work and calling, and to advance the cause of evangelism around the world.”

Zacharias expressed gratitude to well-wishes and prayer from people around the world.

“Thanks to everyone who sent greetings and words of encouragement to Margie and me on this occasion. Please keep us in your prayers as I battle cancer, and accept our heartfelt gratitude for your love and friendship.”

“‘And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.’ —1 Corinthians 13:13,” Zacharias concludes in his post.

Davis also thanks those around the world for their faithful prayer for Zacharias and their family through their journey.

“Truly, words fail to convey the depths of our gratitude for your many expressions of love.”

Indian Pastor Bound and Beaten for Refusal to Contribute to Tribal Rituals

Published

India – According to Morning Star News, a pastor in India’s Jharkhand state was bound and publicly beaten by fellow villagers after he refused to contribute funds to the ritual worship of tribal deities. Despite this intense persecution, the pastor remained steadfast in his faith.

On January 24, Pastor Lakshman Oraon was called before the elders of Jungur village, located in the Latehar District of Jharkhand. The elders of the village demanded he contribute funds to the ritual worship of the village’s tribal deities. When he refused, his arms were tired behind his back and he was beaten.

“When they tied me and started kicking me, I was not at all angry,” Pastor Oraon told Morning Star News. “The Lord reminded me of the verses in Matthew 5:11-12. I received great strength from these words. There was a smile on my face all through.”

After the beating, village elders threatened to excommunicate Pastor Oraon and the other Christians of the village if they continued to refuse to contribute to the tribal rituals.

Facing expulsion, Pastor Oraon reached out to the Alliance Defending Freedom India (ADF). ADF contacted the local police station. Officers called Pastor Oraon and the village elders to the station to work out the situation.

“At the police station, we were asked to give the money, and we gave it,” Pastor Oraon told Morning Star News. “We are praying for the salvation of village leaders and the devotees of tribal deities. The police assured us that they will be a phone call away if any problem arises, and that we will not face any troubles from the villagers after giving the money.”
